The fact that he's talking about his recovery and his relapse and his recovery again just shows how strong of person he is. Recovery is life long. There are many ups and downs. His strength is real.
Weakness is feeling the need to be sober.
True strength is staying high until you die.
He is very well liked, he needs to share his plight often. Young people may believe it will work for them.
If he wasn't as strong would he be less likely to relapse?
@RUclips music is that what you say when you look in the mirror 😆
@RUclips music ok, then a useless person for the mean, hurtful, rude comment!! 😒
Really respect him, takes a lot to show weakness and vulnerability especially as a celebrity. Always been a fan of him and just like him more for sharing his recovery journey ❤
It really felt authentic, additionally because I think it was clear Fallon was not expecting that.
I agree, but it's also important to consider what came first.. was he forced to explain once he got caught? Or did no one know until he announced it?
@RUclips music thanks for having a brain
Weakness? How is what he did “weak”?
@@joejackson9986 there’s always the one guy that nitpicks a single word out of a whole statement. Congratulations on being that exact jackass
Hinds hall brought me here
Me too
Same! He's a legend 🫡
me too
Hinds Hall is legend thanks Macklemore 💞 Peace for ALL 💚
Me too ! Making me love this guy even more !
“It’s the one disease that tells you you don’t have a disease ” wow he was so real for sharing his story. So good to see him looking healthy.
Yeah, it's a remarkable statement he made there that we need to remember (especially other recovering alcoholics). I think it's the same with anorexia.
He don’t have a disease. He picked up drugs and alcohol and liked it cancer is a disease I don’t see anyone buying cancer on street corners, he’s a useless junkie I have no pity for for the hell they out their family theru I feel bad. Then he’ll no
Yeah - he has gained a lot of wisdom along the recovery ❤️🩹 way & he’s not afraid to share it. I respect that. 🙏🏻
I’ve never seen him interviewed before. What a humble and down to earth guy. I’ve been sober 11 years now and while I haven’t relapsed since getting serious about sobriety (I did it plenty of times before tho), I’ve DEFINITELY had a non-linear recovery as well. It’s 2 steps forward and one step back. But when I stop and think of it, we aren’t special in that regard. We all go through trial and error, and error, and error 😂. As long as we are progressing tho, we are doing it right! Wishing you a lifetime of more beautiful lessons and the recovery that comes with that. ❤️🙏
I recommend listening to his song “otherside”. Really powerful and one of my favorite songs of his.
Thank you
Super humble. Comes out of the gate bragging about his Gucci suit
How dumb are you?

He's so good, love his music, his style, personality, honesty.
He goes 100% into everything
There’s something about him. He is genuine. Transparent. And because he has shared of his relapse so openly, ironically, he is trustworthy. Love the new release. Ben…is special. ❤
Well of course if you're genuine and open you will be trustworthy! I know with addiction it seems hard to some people to understand, but it's one thing that taught me most people in the world are not in control of themselves, we just are at different levels of control and mistakes. I try to tell people my addiction is like when you say you're going to get in shape and not eat something unheatlhy. But then you miss days at the gym or you eat a big piece of cake even though you promise yourself you wont! Sometimes you mean to be honest and trustworthy but you just can't trust yourself. It doesn't make you a liar just a human being
@@bdemar2k12 well said my friend.😊
Man, I remember working on Macklemore's Same Love music video back in 2012. That was literally the same day his Thrift Shop video hit a million views on YT (now it's over a billion), and that was a milestone for them. Back then, Macklemore, his lady Trisha, and Ryan Lewis did everything. It was the epitome of Indy. Now look at him. It's surreal to me.
AMEN. "Its the one disease thats tells you , that you dont have the disease." So great to see him sharing his recovery wisdom. You are not alone. 🥰
I read this comment before hearing the video and I didn’t really understand it but hear him say it made me a bit emotional.. thanks for just acknowledging that.
I will always love Macklemore, because he never pretends to be something he's not. He never pretends like he's perfect and doesn't make mistakes, even when he could. It makes me so relatable. And makes you appreciate how genuine of a human being he is.
Love how the dude can show his vulnerability. Inspiration to others to never give up. Good luck on your journey Macklemore!
When Jimmy Fallon tells Ben “We love you. We love you. We really love you. I love you.” I got sooo emotional by that!! We really do love you Ben!! Your music is what I first listened to when I first got clean from Subs back in May 13 2013. I was addicted to opioids and then got addicted to the medication that doctors prescribe to help you get off the opioids. Yo, I had worse withdrawal symptoms that last over a month just from a 5 year addiction to Subutext… The medicine got me high, and I became physically dependent on SUBS of all things to the point where I hid it from everyone. When I first detoxed off that, I did it alone and told no one. Didn’t go to Rehab or anything. I was always so ashamed about my drug addiction until I heard Macklemore’s song Starting Over. Something I’ve always appreciated, admired and respected about him is his honesty, integrity, vulnerability especially when it comes to this topic. Also the songs Drug Dealer, Kevin, Otherside, etc he talks very openly about this. He’s the artist that kept me clean and sober, and he’s the artist who’s music later inspired me to fully leave behind everything that I no longer resonated with and go after my passions instead. “This is dedication. A life lived for art is a never a life wasted.” I truly wouldn’t be alive today without his music and the powerful impact it had/has on me over the years. I give God all the Glory, but I know God led me to his music, and it saved my life! Thank you Macklemore! I turn 40 this year and I have daughter who turns 16 as well!!! Grateful to be alive for all this. I can’t freaking wait for your album!! Is it Friday yet?? 🥹🥹
I have never heard of anyone getting addicted to subs??I know you become physically dependent on it,but you were addicted to your maintenance meds?
Omg girl I need your strength. I'm embarrassed but I'm an addict trying to get clean from opioid now🤐🥺😖 I was clean for 6 yrs met someone and never heard of opioid until then and fucked up. Now I'm a. Functioning addict crying for help to get clean, withdrawal are so scary!!
@@rhiannoncarney ive known several people addicted to subs lol. Thats the point get them addicted to pharma. Personally my drug of choice is THC, sure i do it all day every day, but I’m not gonna OD
@@rhiannoncarney Oh it is 1000% a thing that happens. I am a recovering opiate addict. I have been in recovery for 10 years. I got off of H with the "help" of suboxone and stayed on that for a few years until my insurance stopped paying. At the time there was no off brand subs and my doctor said "Let's try methodone, it's cheaper and works!". Yeah, it works alright. I could get high again on my maintenance meds and the percs that the SAME DOCTOR prescribed me for a rotator cuff injury. Long story short, I was lying to myself and cheating myself. I found another doctor that seemed to care about helping and got back on a much lower dose of subs. That was 3 years ago. Some nights I will sit there and google taper methods so I can break free from these chains. I've tried to get off of subs before and it's just like any other opiate addiction. You lie to yourself, bargain with yourself, make excuses to yourself, justify things to yourself.. "Oh I'll start tapering on my birthday" or "I'm going to cut my dose in half starting on Monday" or "This year I will be off of the meds by Christmas".. whatever things you tell yourself to justify it. I can feel the weight of this addiction, even as functional as I am, slowly crushing me every day. I'm an addict and I'm weak, and some days I'm so incredibly ashamed of myself because my kids are now old enough to kind of understand why I take suboxone. I'm sorry for rambling and writing this wall of text, it just feels good to put this into words. I'm a grown ass man sitting here crying in my cubicle at work, but at least I feel something.
@@rhiannoncarney Absolutely! Listen to Macklemore’s song Drug Dealer… He says “My homie was takin subs and he ain’t wake up…”
The subs withdrawal was worse than all opioid withdrawal combined. Check out the comment in this thread. Big pharma knows exactly what they’re doing. Hope this helps 🙏🏼💕
Wow, respect and gratitude to him for being so open and vulnerable about his recovery.
Well done man you probably have no idea how many people you helped with sharing your sobriety and relapse. Love your music!
So grateful that he is so open with sharing his sobriety and how meaningful the 12 step program is. My dad has been sober and in recovery for 14 years and it’s completely changed our life for the better. I’m not an addict, but I don’t know where I’d be without AA ❤
Hey all the best with your struggles, Mackie.
It's great that you've talked about your struggle here, could help people feel less alone, more motivated to change, etc. 😊
One day at a time bud. Macklemore's music has always been a huge inspiration to us in the recovery community. His honesty is refreshing. I can't wait to listen to the new album. Went to one of his shows with a dear friend who passed of this disease we share. RIP Jenna, I miss you. That concert, the time God gave me with you, what a blessing.
So proud of him! And so great to see someone with a platform stating how important in person programs and therapy can be for some people. Let's hope our government learns from this and steers clear from future lockdowns. So many ppl lost their lives due to addiction and suicide during the pandemic for this reason.
Lockdowns saved millions of lives, though.
Edit: And I am a depressive. Protecting people from viral outbreaks takes precedence 🤷🏻♂️
Man, the amount of humility it takes to talk so openly about this kind of problem is exactly the kind of humility that gives you strength to make it through. I'm not often impressed by celebrities, but this is a completely different approach to fame, and I respect it.
I love this man- he’s the real deal- I don’t care who ya are- I’ll fight anyone who says he’s not. #macklemore 🙏🏽
Wish him all the best in his continued recovery!!
He is such a good guy, I really like him! He is real, shows vulnerability and takes responsibility. A true role model! ❤️🙏🏻
@jimmy You kept telling him, We love you, until he accepted your message, with a Thank you. Kudos for being present minded enough to really have a meaningful interaction. ❤️
Proud of you!!!!!
Your an inspiration
To the youth of today!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
always thought being vulnerable & depressed means you're weak. As soon as I realized it's what makes us human, it became positive.
I'm his biggest fan and the fact he human like everyone else helps in my recovery, so Inspiring.
My favourite singer and simply such a honest, kind and amazing human being! Can’t wait for the new album!!
He's a whole different person! Damn! 🙌
He is an awesome musician, talent, and a humble, genuine person. I love his sense of humor, honesty, and of course his music. I love how he features other artists in his music like Collette, Windser, Budo, Mary Lambert, and Tones. (I know there's more.) I've met him in person and he truly is down to earth, humble, funny, kind, very interesting, intelligent, and fun to talk to. ❤️
Thank you. I needed to see this today. ❤ Talking about this disease and not worrying about the stigma is truly a sign of willingness. As an upstate Hudson Valley kid who struggled, I applaud you Jimmy for this and your genuine appreciation to hear about Ben's recovery and relapse and how hard we struggle. Another 24 down 🙏
Damn he completely changed my perspective about him once he started talking about his past and stuff. Takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable like that.
I respect you even more now. The twelve steps have restored me to sanity!
Love this guy. Saw him live twice. The most memorable performance has been him from all musicians I watched.
im gonna pop some taaaaaags 😑😑
Have so much respect for this man! He’s wonderful
Macklemore, I love you man. ❤
Love this young man’s music… keep straight ahead❤😊
love u so much Macklemore. Thrift shop forever!
He is such a gift, thank you for sharing this
It’s really helpful hearing him. As an alcoholic myself, I’ve never thought “anything you put in front, you will loose”. Being in and out of addiction is so hard and you loose trust quickly, for a long time. I want to note, alcohol is one of the most addictive and deadly substances. It’s no joke. I could smoke a cigarette and stop; but I struggled and continue to have urges for booze.
Wish him all the best in his recovery.
‘The first thing I put in front of my recovery will be the first thing that I loose!’
I feel ya, ODAAT Bro ❤🙏🏻
Finally an honest performer. Just that is enough for me to become a fan ans listen to more of your music!!
He won't be on shows like these anymore Zio control 🛂
Zio!! What does it mean
Nike Dri-fit.
This dude is a real one.
Im so happy he's talking about this. I'm a Substance use disorder counselor and when Covid hit I knew so many people were going to relapse unfortunately due to the lock downs. Boredom and not connected to their community are big trigger spots for people who are struggling with addictions. Glad he was able to find his way back 😊
Just saw this now. Love Macklemore and only wish him the best! Super courageous.
I respect his honesty. Its a constant battle. You gotta cut everyone negative in or out of addiction out of your life and move on.
Aww where is his beautiful strawberry blonde hair?! I loved his strawberry 🍓 blonde 👱♂️ hair 😍!! It was so seggsy 🤗🥰
Love his music! What a wonderful guy ❤
Really proud of him. Takes a lot to talk about your recovery and bounce back from a relapse. A good and genuine dude. Respect.
Thank you for having the balls to talk about this on TV
this man is a legend
His Thrift shop is one of my favorites
Always looked up to this dude. He's so well spoken; his diction is so well polished. I'm glad that he's in a much better place now compared to where he was before. He's a fighter!
Love this man. Thank you for the authenticity and the vulnerability Ben. Please don't ever stop. No matter what your future holds.
Macklemore has a very special place in my heart. He’s one of not so many artists, who are speaking so honestly about his struggles and addiction and are vulnerable
This guy is such an inspiration. So humble and decent guy. Thanks for sharing your story.
Those dri-fit socks really are the best!
Ben is so well-spoken, like he just have the right words at the right timings. Very articulate, indeed.
Just saw him last night in MPLS and he neeeeever disappoints in his performance. That how we connect with music is the musician. With out music life would be boring! Can't wait til next time!
You can clearly see he does therapy, that's so good ❤️
Respect for his journey, taking chances.
Clean and sober date is 9/14/20. As someone who also works the program of AA, those physical meetings are so important. I'm so grateful my home group kept the doors open during the shut down. Online meetings are great! I relied on them a lot but being physically present around people who are just like you, trying to do the same thing you are trying to do eases our isolation...which is an easy way to get us drunk and high again. Resentment is the number one offender but I believe isolation is a close second.
Love the openness for others to witness and latch onto as well.
Such an inspiration. Im glad i get to see him every once in a while irl. Never loved living in seartle so mich
Love Macklemore’s realness and music!!
Ah, he said the “V” word! There is no strength without vulnerability. Really love that he’s talking openly about addiction and recovery and the non-linear path that process takes.
This is why I had him sign my arm and turned it into a tattoo when I met him. Adore him
Macklemore is really nice in person. Mad respect for him. That guy's legit 💯
I’m not Jimmys biggest fan, I think a lot of his interviews come with in-genuine laughter and what not, but him saying “we love you, I love you” to Macklemore felt genuine and I grew some respect for Jimmy. People in Macklemore’s position tend to feel alone and I think he needed to hear that. And I’m glad Jimmy said it so many times. We do love you Macklemore
Such a charismatic personality!
Wish him the best ❤
I love him and his music. I love how candid he is. I hope he continues to stay sober and live his best life.
I relapsed a week ago, i can relate. I nearly lost everything once again, you feel so ashamed after a relapse, everything youve accomplished just disappears.
Its damn depressing and soul destroying, it puts you to your need with the shame and depression.
I feel this mans paid.
And then we start again.
Ive been sober for 6 days
He’s a nice person. Shopped at our business years ago. Always cool always humble. This was when he got huge and was touring.
That villain stash is pretty dope. I think it adds to his allure.
This new album is so beautiful. I've had it on repeat.
His voice is much higher and "hi, I'm Tom calling you about your insurance" then I thought. Can't wait for the album nonetheless lol
Yes!! Listen up to the winner here!! Welcome back😀❤️🎶 Ben…
Mad respect for Ben and being honest. It’s that boredom that tugs, and being a recovering addict myself, I’ve learned to meditate and becoming present when the ego is let out of its kennel.
I can't be the only one that feels Mackelmore is under rated.
Wow so powerful this 🙏💙love his vulnerability and honesty explaining the insanity of the disease one disease telling you you dont have a disease
Macklemore you are one of the greatest don't forget that 🙏🏾👏🏾😁💪🏾👑💕🔥🎙️
His honesty and realness is so refreshing. Love him ❤️
This album and his candor are beautiful.
He looks no more
Thrift shopping he finally got a good suit
My kids and I love everything Macklemore and really the honesty in his music. A genuine person.
your kids need to listen to j cole & kendrick lamar for honesty, karen
Beside his recovery journey , he is Grammy Awards artist guys:) thanks for the new Album Ben:)
Love him so much 💕🫶
The way Jimmy and Macklemore are interacting is displaying true love on a human level, good to see
I admire him so much more for being honest and direct. Wish fame would follow his lead.
And serious kudos to him for being so public about his relapse he could have just dealt with it privately. He wants us to know that if we fall off the wagon we can get back on. And I saw him (and Tones! 🥰) in concert this summer with Imagine Dragons....both acts are sober and they both CRUSHED IT. Hands down one of the best shows of my life! Im telling you man the energy in that crowd was pure hope and happiness. We love you Macklemore!
LOVE MACKLEMORE ❤ LOVE SEEING HIM GETTING HIS MUCH DESERVED FLOWERS 👑🌹🌹
he looks so good with his new hair wow
Congratulations Mack! I have been sober for a little over a year. My alcoholism peaked during Covid and started using other substances. I get a daily reprieve because of my spiritual program. One day at a time!
This man is unstoppable. I really look up to him.
always love him ❤especially after Hind hall ❤
Macklemore does no wrong in Hip-Hop! He's definitely Hip-Hop and has his own style and voice fan or not it's facts 💯
finally something real on jimmy's show!!! i like it!!!
Just saw him yesterday in Seattle great what he did for his hometown
