It takes some investing, but the best place to make money by far is West Africa. Arguin, Abidjan, and St Jorges all have gold, which in this game is a regional specialty (which means selling it also adds contribution outside of the area). The normal buying price is 3k, and it sells for around 10k (more during festivals) in Europe, which is very close by. Sierra Leone also has diamonds. It's not quite as good, but still very profitable. If you build the trade to 800, all the goods automatically become premium versions. This adds another 50% in value. I have 2 Ships of the Line, and 3 Lage Galleons, with around 90 spaces for trade goods. A fleet full of premium gold can be sold for nearly 2 million.

Using market survey is useful to also mark what goods are sold where. So the contracts are a lot easier. Can't remember where the stuff is sold? Open your map and hover over a port. If you surveyed it, it will show what goods are sold.
Btw, Jadeite is from Bago and sells for a ton in Japan 😉

Bounties are actually very profitable if you can capture ships, those ships sell for a lot of money.

Bounties are a somewhat no for me depending if your taking other ships with you in regards to the AI which can be rather not bright costing you ships.

You can beat most of the bounties with one ship for quite a while. It is definitely the quickest way to make money. Because the enemy AI Is equally not as smart.

Probably should not have invested heavily in Nagasaki. That's place is going to be blown to smithereens. 😉
