I personally think that shorter videos are better since they feel less like a 'waste of time.' It's either you make really entertaining long videos or moderately entertaining ones but compensate with 'shortness'.
The thing you should be focused on starting out is the gameplay loop. What makes your game unique and interesting. Open world survival crafting games are a dime a dozen these. What will make people want to play your game? The building mechanics? The combat? The story? If you don't have this figured out its really easy to fall into obscurity with the thousands of other indie games. And for grass, check out what Ghost of Tsushima does with shaders.
6:15 (" _I would love to hear what you think about this approach_ ") I love it! Seeing consistent updates on what you're doing with silly jokes sprinkled in the middle is quite fun, and that's the point of a youtube video, is it not? I can't wait to see where this goes :) also it's probably better for the algorithm, but that's besides the point
PLEASE FIND THE GAMEPLAY LOOP! What makes your game stand out? What makes this a different experience than factorio/satisfactory? I would have made a building mechanic first, then the world.
I am on a similar journey. My thinking on this is it’s better to learn the system than buy systems. But sometimes I will buy the system to learn how they do it. No asset pack is perfect, and I found it a bit of a trap. Art assets are great though. But characters are so expensive for the good ones. Anyway , good luck in your journey. This is my favorite series if you keep it going.
We are battling the same problem. I have 2 versions of terrain generation. The first one I spent like a month and a half on learning and understanding. The second one I made today. Took all day to get it working right. I’m not sure which I like better because they produce wildly different results.
Wow that is an improvement from the last video, I am going to be honest... Seeing the what you have done in two weeks is kind of inspirational for me making my own game.
Please do videos often. Maybe even live streams. More views for ur channel to grow and you can use the videos to see progress instead of bulky videos where you might lose ppl over time
Awesome video! The game is looking really kool. Really like the idea of infinite world generator. When done well it just elevates the game. Also the way you placed objects in the game is impressive. The inventory system looks spot on. Looking forward to your next devlog. Keep it up! :)

i love longer form videos, but this is a great start! cant wait to see this finished
@snipeshotgames agree longer is better

A mix of both seems good but if you do decide to do longer videos I recommend 20-30 minutes
ur probably better off making a community post about it
He's doing it! He's successfully breaking the number 1 rule in solo game development!
Yea, but for now he's just been following tutorials and using prebuilt assets.
5:08 bro is munching the entire tree in one bite

And for grass, check out what Ghost of Tsushima does with shaders.
New nova code video 🔥
With the grass, you could try using shaders instead of actual objects, there are a lot of good free grass shaders out there
I can tell you’re gonna go places man, keep it up

No, it's smart to make world Gen first. But yes planning the game loop is a must before coding
You make me continue making my game. Keep it up man🤟🏾🔥

You are welcome, your job is to do games for us now!

Subbed immediately after that light saber joke 🤣 I just started my game dev journey as well. Keep it up man and best of luck to you

i hope your channel blows up in subscribers :D looking forward to more videos like this
Idk if this is possible but you should make it so some areas generate with perfectly flat open spaces if it’s a factory building game
another masterpiece from Nova ❤🔥
nice progress :) keep going!
I read the title, vietnam flashback. Four words
> Perlin Nightmare & feature creep
loving the video bro
WHEN DEV LOG 2?????????????????????? HUH HUH HUH HUH HUH
Maybe you could draw the grass as billboards. It definitely increases performance, because it is just a single flat texture
Nice
Great video friend. Greetings and cheers from another solo starter game developer :) Hope you'd make this game to the end.
fire
if i recall there is an anti-lag grass tutorial somewhere out there, it might help you out
Acerola has some good ones, has a couple of vids explaining the theory behind them
Yeah I think Acerola came to mind
Don't focus on complex systems that add
Pretty coolio

inSANE
this game is gonna be insane
Longer videos
Make sure every single grass isn’t being calculated by any shaders as even triple A games don’t do this.
shorter and more videos
