These cookies are beautiful. Also out of curiosity, how does the royal icing taste? Too sweet, just the right amount of sweet, or not sweet enough?
I think it's a great balance. There is a good amount of salt in my sugar cookie recipe and the lemon royal icing works beautifully with it! I've had it called a crossed between a SweeTart and a sugar cookie.

how come you add a squiggle before filling in some sections?
I think it adds volume, to help the flood be more pronounced
