I friggin love the F9F-8 Cougar. Its design and capabilities are just awesome regardless its age. It may not be fast in comparison to its Russian counterparts, but its turnrate and overall looks is pure awesomeness. Wish I could see one in action.

Oh I remember this plane when it was lying on its belly with no canopy not far from where I lived in Belmar. I never imagined it would be restored to this condition. Well done!

The F9F-8 Cougar, taking a decent idea and making it better without ruining it.
Arguably its what most aerospace companies are doing now rather than creating new aircraft e.g. the F/A18F coming from the F/A18A itself from the YF17; the F15EX; the F16 Block 72 (?); that's just the US ones (which is to say there's no new F4D Skyray coming anytime soon, though one could argue there is the HAL Tejas as a new jet flying from a carrier).

i was stationed at N.A.S. Chase field in Beeville Texas in pilot training squadron VT26. i was an A.M.H or hydrolics mech. that was bit bit of a joke because i spent most of my time in as a plane captain on the flight line. i fueled pre flighted post flighted and brought jets onto their spots and tied them down. all in all it was a great experience except for the south texas heat combined with the exhaust of a dozen or more jet engines turning. we had the F-9 cougers and most were 2 seaters for training pilots for Vietnam.

I don't think the cougars ever fired a shot in anger.

Hello from Spain! I'm almost 22 now, but I had the immense luck to be there in New York in 2016 when I was 17 and I had the greater luck of being able to visit the intrepid museum! This is one of my favourite jet designs and I was searching on RUclips for it and found you guys. I still remember walking on the deck and seeing this cougar and the mig-15. I had never been so close to a jet. It's an experience I will never forget. Thank you guys for running such an amazing museum.

Was the wings the only change between the Panther and Cougar? How did their performance compare?

Great video and commentary but, Please wind down the volume on the music. It is drowning out the narrative.

The MiG needs a repaint. Everything is wrong, color tone and fades.

These aircraft should not be left out in the elements to corrode.
