I am happy to see that these videos that I posted 10 years ago are still on RUclips and that a number of people have watched them and liked them. I remember the times I spent with Jerry both at the workshops that he gave at Sax-On my tech's repairshop and store which is the best in all of Spain. on top of being a great he's a great person and a lot of fun to hang with.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Jerry is great and it was a real treat to be there just a few feet away from him. Please give it a thumbs up and watch the other 2 clips to enjoy the whole gig.
Jerry nails it...!!
Jerry is a great guy and always wonderful to hear and also to talk to. He has come here to Barcelona a number of times since I shot this video and I got to know him a bit. He did a workshop a year ago and is one hell of a player and teacher, plus very funny.
Thanks for supplying the title.
My pleasure. I only wish the sound and video could have been better.
Thanks for posting this. Great to see Jerry in action!
Strictly from a gear standpoint: What a beautiful looking axe. Looks gold plated.
Always been intrigued by Conn but never owned one. It must be a good one; I'm sure he can play whatever he wants to.
saludos para el maestro jerry bergonzi. y para el maestro gaby ardebol en barcelona. se le escucha aquí. boris ríos. alumno en bogotá.
I just posted the link to the page on SOTW where they talk about his set-up. I can't post it here so it is now at the bottom of the description above. It's not a Conn but a Selmer Dorsey model. Google for more info. BTW, Jerry's friend, fellow Bostonian and fellow teacher at Berklee, George Garzone, plays a silver Selmer SB. Both of these guys are monsters.
Please see Steve Neff blog about tenor sax Bergonzi mouthpiece review.
.....reminds me of a Coltrane type of sound. To my ears a bright dry quality.
Probably just my preference.
Also, most kids start off on alto because of the size of the horn and the mistaken concept that small people can't play a bigger horn. Lots of short people play tenor, the prime example being Johnny Griffin who wasn't nicknamed the Little Giant because he was huge in chops not in stature.
I doubt it but of course any sax player can play any other sax if he or she wants to. Many people play both tenor and alto, or tenor and bari, although it's more common to play soprano and tenor or alto and bari because they are in the same key and you don't have to sight transpose or learn two different charts and sets of changes. That doesn't mean he or she will sound good on the other saxes or like playing that range or that it will be his or her preferred or true voice.
8) Encore: "Who cares?" (G. Gershwin/I. Gershwin).
automatic volume control always says, "me first"
automatic volume control never "puts the music first"
automatic volume control, is one selfish dude
enjoyable video once you get past automatic volume control !
tone wise he does sound like Coltrane idea wise no he doesn't sound like Coltrane.
nothing to do with Trane...(speaking of sound)
I think he sounds like coltrane a lot which isn't my favorite.
No one cares what you think about Coltrane
