@@gonskie Look Up Young Man , Look Up nakasulat nang malaki sa gilid ng Feati
Avenida belongs to the past.
Carriedo my favorite place to walk with during college days at Feati Lalo sa tabi na Isetan heading quaipo church after after which siesta punta binondo gang china town teeming with Chinese restau and kalesa then where we used to order Mami And plate size siopao (pork buns). The same place where I met my better half along quiapo underpass a love at first sight experience when she studied in MLQU.
Thank you for bringing back the memories of Avenida. My mother and I used to shop at GoodEarth Emporium to buy shoes and bag when I was a kid. We used to buy our school supplies at Alemar's.Thank you very much. I started to subscribe to your channel because it is so informative. Mabuhay ka. 👍
Yay! I remember GoodEarth Emporium when I was younger 🙏
Wow!! I remember Alemars for school supplies!!!
hey,sama ko dyan mga vro...jtigasin
I missed manila cod n luisa and sons resto
college days, me and my classmates used to shop at Good Earth and Syvels dept store.. ang ganda at malinis na ang Rizal ave ngayon…kung wala lang pandemic nagbakasyon na sa pinas at dalawin ko ang buong manila…thanks to mayor Isko… he transformed manila into a vibrant and a beautiful place to live in… Amazing job mayor Isko… iba ka.. and ikaw na next president nang Pilipinas….. sir, i like your vid/content… thank you…. watching from California, USA.
Thank you😊😊🙏🙏
Watching from uae. 86. 87 yon pinasok ng kmu nagstrike kaya nagsarado.

Ang dumi dumi Ng maynila nyo
yes i've been through these establishments as well then
avenida rizal was used to be my old stomping ground. 1977 when i was attending my college days in the feati university and living on the boarding house near the far eastern university . i used to walk the distance going to the school and back just to save some centavo from the jeepney fare, after all the traffic back then was already horrible and the heat and humidity from all around you was very unpleasant so i just decided to walk and be entertained by all the hustle and bustle around me. and i am glad that i did specially after seeing your short documentary it brings me back to an old memory. good earth emporium and the shoe mart was our resting spot just to cool our selves during the summer heat. thanks kayoutubero
You’re welcome boss Salamat din🙏🙏
Are you from Catbalogan ,Mr. Rosales
@@mariodiaz4694 no i am not from catbalogan, rather i was born and raised in olongapo city. i was never been in catbalogan samar but i heared it was a nice place.
So natatandaan mo pa siguro ang amoy at kulay ng Pasig river from FEATI noon.
Thank you once again for taking me down memory lane. Before I migrated to the US in 1988, I used to walk down Avenida and Good Earth was one of my favorite stores!
Studied at university of the east. Vacant period having halo halo at the Little Quiapo restaurant nearby. Those were the days..
Then it’s-restore ko yang Avenida to its former glory!
relate aco sa yo repaco....jtigasin
Before the LRT was constructed along Rizal Avenue, Rizal Avenue was well lighted, from sunlight during the day and lamp posts in the night and was a two-way street. Famous landmarks were the Good Earth Emporium, Fairmart, Madison Shoe Store, a popular burger house (there was no Jollibee yet at that time) and a revolving restaurant.
I remember that burger house, right beside a shoe store I just can't remember the name anymore. It was between Raon and Soler sts, northbound, nearer to Raon. The burger was P1.50/2.50, around that price. Yeah, it was yummy and big. More than enough to fill me up.
Dyan kami namimili ng mother ko when I was in the University.
Also national bookstore..

Very informative. Since yr 1968 up to about 2016 I explored, roamed, amazed, happy, enjoyed, feared, spent some time in this area (@Avenida Rizal).
I about year 2016 the place became so dangerous & filthy that compelled me to stopped threading these roads.
Maybe, now yr 2022 is the time for me to go back spent some time to visit reminisce my past in these area probably with my old friends.
Imagine in my college years I walk back & forth from c. m. recto - quiapo - avenida rizal back to c.m.recto just to watch a good movie show. 👍🏻😎.
Late 90's pa lang filthy na sya.
Our last family vacation was on March of 73. We stayed in Avenida Hotel. I was 9 years old. That December of same year,, my father died. Years afterwards, I worked in Manila for 15 long years, but everything was already different, with the sudden emergence of LRT then MRT. Your vlog is a time travel for me. Nostalgic, sad but I enjoyed it. Many thanks for all the memories it brought back.
Ako pinanganak ng 1956, ngayun 67 n a ako umalis ako s a pilipinas taon 1976, punta ng america, marami din akung natatandaan ako noon, ng mapanood ko ito nalunkot ako gusto man umiyak, dahil naalala ko ng ally mallit pa..subrang miss ko ang pilipinas, Kung saan ako pinanganak, Laki ako ng Manila, Pasay city ...mabuhay kayung lahat, god bless you all.

Fern-Nice to recall Reminishing yesteryears ,Avenida Rizal ,Carriedo,Claro M Recto,QUIAPO,Royal Hotel,I remember we stay on those area when we are in Manila. Thanks for vlogging interesting.
Ah talaga po? Nice po😊🙏
Almost the establishment you feature in this segment are the memories of my childhood. I grow up in this place since late 70s coz' this is our favorite hangout of my family. Like you said shopping 🛍️, eating in a restaurant and watching movies. And my father was working in Otis Dept. Store in Carriedo before. I feel got sentimental😔 coz' it brings back a lot of happy memories to me
as I've watched your post and for me I like Avenida before. A lot of beautiful historical Bldgs. and you can feel the true spirit of happiness in this place. I truly missed Avenida before. You did a good job 👍 it's informative and enjoyable although I feel sad😢 I love 💓 luv 💕 it.
Thank you so much boss at nagustuhan nyo po☺️☺️🙏🙏🙏
Yes me too loves avenida my parents and grandparents always bring us to this place and escolta when we were young as elementary grades we always have our shopping spree with our parents enjoyed those places happy memories miss you avenida

I was a college boy in the 80s these were the places i used to go Avenida Morayta Escolta.i was a province boy but enjoyed visiting these places i used to Recto and watch movie saw Dia Hard.I visited recently hindi ko na nakilala lugar
Mayor Isko’s one of impossible dream achievement. Kudos from 🇨🇦 Canada. I am one of your No.1 supporter. Win or lose. God bless you and your family.
State, Ever, Universal, Lord's, Jeanet, Avenue, Odeon. Sigh! The Good Ole days. Thank you for walking us down memory lane.
😁🙏🙏
nice vlog it carried me to yesteryears when i was a college stude in the 80s
Very nice👍. Good job ang ganda. Brings back good memories 👍
Thank you Fern for this beautiful vlog.
You did one fantastic job on your research. But in all your "Noon at Ngayon" episodes, for me personally.. this is the saddest. I was misty eyed. It was sort of a drastic transformation in my lifetime. I guess it's just bound to happen, we just have to accept changes. Thank you to Mayor Isko, he was able to saved some. Hanggang sa muli, mabuhay ka and God bless.
Salamat boss🙏🙏
Yeah Mr Froilan you’re right , totally different what the change has brought?! Could had it been good or bad who knows Gond are those days were Avenida glistened and was glorious. 🙁
Wow ! after leaving Manila for the USA in 1977 , here we go , am watching the streets more familiar to me during my college years ,what a nostalgic feeling . I remember Raon near Life Theater, there was this small alcove where my sister and I used to eat fresh Lumpia and Coke , that was best Lumpia I’ve ever tasted . Thank you for putting this on You Tube .
Hello there thank u for watching. Sana po mapanood nyo ang part 2 ng avenida, also pls watch my video Quezon Boulevard, the place of lumpia where u used to buy was on that video😊😊☺️🙏🙏🙏
Salamat man den at naging part sila ng aking high school and college life late 80's and early 90's.
Thank You for bringing us back those days...
Taga pampanga ako born 1953 edad ko ngayon 71 yrs old .tatay ko nagttrabaho sa tabora divisoria tumira rin kami sa caloocan 4rth avenue.year 1958 to 60 palipat lipat ng tirahan.maraming kamag.anak sa metro manila kaya alam ko ang mga establisyemento o strutura maynila caloocan pasay mandaluyong san juan Quezon city at iba pang bayan sa metro manila . Galing naman! Ka youtubero, you did an excellent job! Thank you ka youtubero.
The busiest happier safe place bfore .. very convenient places to go & hung out with friends during weekends ... nkakamiss & sad .. 😓😓😓
As an adolescent growing up in the late 60's and early 70's (before the big malls}, this was the coolest place to be. Your senses just come alive as you loose yourself in the bustling noise and dizzying sights. The neon lights in the evening turns this place magical especially as it gets closer to Christmas. Somehow, Petula Clark's "Downtown" always reminds me of this place. Thanks for your vlog... very educational and entertaining.
Thank u boss😁🙏🙏🙏🙏
Spot on! Petula Clark's Downtown was a hit! The word downtown was then used by people to refer to shopping areas around the Metro, most especially Avenida Rizal. I guess you're aware that since chilhood, Petula's Downtown has morphed into a Christmas Song - played consistently in the air waves every Yuletide season!!!
Am happy to learn the history of Manila ( Avenida) Kudos to you Sir👍👍👍.
Wow, kayoutubero.galing ng research mo. Worth my time. Nostalgia. Was a UP D student 1960 to 1965. Kaya naman, I shopped at all the stores and saw movies at Odeon, Galaxy and Ideal theaters. As a child taken to Opera House to watch live shows. Thank you for your work and posts.
Salamat din po😊🙏🙏

Just correction brod, ung Galaxy theater wala sa Quezon Blvd. Nasa Avenida yon katapat ng Philippine Rabbit, katabi yon ng Luisa n Son n MIT. Sa Galaxy ipinalabas ang Ten Commandments for almost one year.
True kase dyan ako tumira sa malapit

Wow! Thank you for taking us back down memory lane and for taking the time to take us on a virtual tour of where the old buildings once stood. I appreciate the historical context that you have explored to make this video. Though we miss the old Manila we have to move with the times. Again, kudos to you!

Hello sir Henry i hope so too😊😁🙏
Maraming salamat Fern sa video mo. You made me feel so young again. My father use to worked for many years at Ideal theatre, before leaving my country I also worked in Avenida and I enjoyed all those years being there, the restaurants, stores like Goodearth emporium. I appreciate your good job in putting this video together, mabuhay ka!

Thanks for the memories.
😊🙏🙏
KYT as always you brought me back to my childhood days. Thank you. Just FYI, what appears to be a PhilTrust bank branch now at the corner of Avenida and Carriedo used to be a department store called ShoeWorld. Also, Good Earth emporium suffered a fire in the upper floors during the LRT construction. It was closed for nearly a year as it went thru renovations.
Thank u po sa info🙏🙏
Mas gusto ko Ang Avenida noong 80's..very safe dumaan kahit anong oras sa Gabi..very busy..kahit ano ibenta nabibili..walang kahirap hirap maghanap buhay dati..sayang noong pumasya Ako,.patay na Ang lugar...oroquieta st gang sa Chinatown,,wala ng gotesco, ever emperium,etc...

Mid 70’s l remember the place very well till now. Good memories my college years.
I both seen that avenida Rizal from Year of 60 till year of 2018 its so Different na pati mga buildings was so Different 😊I miss to come there
When my mom was still little, her mother, together with her siblings stroll along Rizal Avenue to do their shopping (primarily at Shoe Mart and Cinderella). Then, they will have lunch there at Silver Star Panciteria; the very place famous for their Pancit Guisado, Lechon, and Jumbo Siopao. She also told me that they also hang out at Ideal Cinema where they saw Charlton Heston's movie, the Ten Commandments, whose special effects were spectacular at that time.
Dati Orchestra, Balcony, at Lodge pa.
Paborito naming kainan ay nandyan sa Avenida, before catching the bus, it's either papuntang Sapang Palay o Angeles City. Brings back great memories, thanks so much for giving me the Nostalgic feeling. Salamat at Mabuhay po kayo Sir.
Not only those born in 1958, but from 1950s. Me and three bothers were born in the 50s in Sta. Cruz, Manila until 1976 when we moved to Quezon City! We grew up in M. Hizon St. corner Alvarez St. It was a beautiful place to live in and we have good memories of our childhood. The place was our playground, from Rasac to downtown Sta. Cruz church.

Very nice Sir Fern, you really dug unto history . hope that you also unearth the Golden age of Philippine Cinema. Thanks for the nice contribution , it enkindled my love for history all the more .
Thank you for showing what it looks like before, sarap balikan ng nakaraan

I misses and loved Avenida. I used to worked in OTIS Dept str.
Tambayan ko nuong late 80s till late 90s ang avenida..miss that place..
I remember Galaxy Theater. It was where the movie Ten Commandments was shown. If I remember correctly it was shown for one whole year. It was the first, or maybe the only, movie wherein the audience have to leave the theater at the end of the movie. During that time ticket cost only P1.20 but ticket for Ten Commandments cost P5.00 if I remember correctly
thank you again for your lovely vlogs of memorable places and rizal ave. is part of my existence I grew up in helios st. and echague st. , just infront of feati university near clover theater and inday theater, beside the tallest building then the ten story great eastern hotel. I remember when i was kid after school, i would run to the feati where larry mumar would be waiting for me to play bsketball, his father Lauro the Fox Mumar was the coach and athletic director of the school, later when I was a teenager I would play with danny florencio, bert casal, che poblete, ed gamboa among others.I grew up walking the avenida back and forth extending to recto ave. quezon blvd , raon st, . I attende Feati then transfered to TIP raon st. I would still walk around the avenida , quezon blvd grid.Going home i missed my favorite hangout the Paro paro restaurant and Cafe Ronquillo , the singers and the lovely ladies
I really miss Avenida dyan ako.mdalas manood ng cine noon , late 70's to.80's mostly mga pelikula ni.Nora Aunor , nagkakaron ng traffic pag may showing pelikula c Nora grabe those were d days
I am 70 yrs old. Dyan ako nag aral sa MIT Doroteo corner Tomas Mapua year 1970 at high school nalang at nalipat ang college sa Intramuros. Masaya dyan kahit magulo. Sakayan namin phil rabbit pauwi ng balanga bataan.
Ang sarap ibalik ang nakaraan, avenida is my favorate place kung saan ako namamasyal since I was a kid from grace park, I still remember I always watch a movie sa Odeon kapag may James Bond movie, like " You only live twice"... tapos kaain ka sa "Ma Mon Luk" sabay simba sa Quiapo. Wala pang LRT noon... 😊
Back in the Old Days, a lot of beautiful Art Deco Art Modern Architecture that exist. I love your documentary on different buildings, department stores, Cinemas and more. It was very beautiful even before late 70s & pre-LRT days when I was a teenager growing up in Manila. It became rundown when they built the LRT and people start going to Cubao & Makati for shopping & entertainment. Thanks to Mayor Isko Moreno he fixed Avenida Rizal a little bit but a lot of the exterior are still rundown. Here in Toronto our main street downtown got rundown too but they took an effort to regentrify the place; now its bustling with beautiful buildings & retailers and our very own Times Square with huge billboards.
@@franciscotitingmaramara2605 Thank you for your insights.
Thank you very much for showing the old and new Avenida. Avenida was my world when I was a student in Manila in the 70s. How I wanted to see Avenida now, but could not travel because of Covid. Thank you for pointing out the buildings I used to know. I really appreciate what you showed. How could I essay my profound thanks of what you did. Godbless.
😁😁🙏🙏 thank u sa panonood po
Avenida once clean n beautiful town. I remember my mother use to take me at Goodearth n my Dad use to buy me leather shoe by Florsheim back in the 1980 plus full of movie theaters. People back then do care about dignity but now no discipline.
👍🏻💖😎love this documentary. i can relate my happy past times/experiences with/in AVENIDA(Rizal Avenue).
I liked to go up to the top floor of Good Earth emporium because that was the toys section way back in the 70s. I can also remember there were amusement rides at the top. I'm amazed that the Alemars sign hasn't been removed after all this years. Maybe someone can take it and preserve. Do you know if the Enriques art supply is still around at the corner of Recto avenue?
Hello Fern I was about to mention the back ground of Galaxy theater but it was already pointed out by Orchestra. One more famous movie house in Avenida Rizal was forgotten to mention in your vlog.. The Ever theater.. where Cleopatra and The Sound of Music was shown. The latter was shown for more than a year. Ever was very close to State theater if I'm not mistaken.
The iconic bookstores in Avenida Rizal were National bookstore, Goodwill bookstore ( where I buy my plastic scale models) and Alemar's all adjacent to one another.
Thank you uli and God bless Fern.
🙏🙏
Galaxy Theater was where The Ten Commandments was shown for I think 2 months! Its sad the old moviehouses built by Juan Nakpil were demolished.
HELLO FROILAN, DO YOU REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE BIG RESTAURANT WITH SINGER SHOWS? IT'S CLOSE TO GALAXY THEATER AND MAPUA ?
@@josephmartin7328 Hello Joseph, now you got me in this one..Lol, I'll take a blind shot on that, let me juggle my memory, ..is it Luisa and Sons?! Paminsan- minsan may barilan sa bar😂
PARA SA AKIN AVENIDA IS THE BEST. THANK YOU AGAIN SIR FERN. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙏☺️
Galing mo Sir, galing mong magpaliwanag..ang linaw.
Thank you🙏🙏😁
Fern, I am teary eyed watching this video, brings back childhood memories…all the theaters featured I have been there…thank you very very much…pinanganak, lumaki at kinalakhan ko ang glory days ng Maynila.🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Hello, aww im sure all are good memories na di nyo talaga malilimutan boss.. salamat po sa panonood, more coming po
I've got the opportunity to walk the streets of Manila when I was still studying in Intramuros. One of a kind talaga, other places that I could impar and with the same vibes to Manila would be the downtown areas of Cebu and Davao.
I miss this place so much! A lot of memories from this place!
I wonder where you are getting your historical data (The National Library? The Philippine Archives Society?, etc.). You always re-live my younger days during the Dekada Sitenta thru your "Noon at Ngayon" series. Thanks again Fern, I also follow each and everyone of all your vlogs. I can't wait to see more from you! By the way, I am a retired 68 years young Civil/Structural Engineer, your avid follower! God bless!
Hello sir, thank for sharing your story po🙏🙏🙏

Omg, I don’t recognise the Avenida, Escolta, Quiapo, of the 1960’s . Thank you so much for bringing very happy memories of thes3 places I used to love: Good Earth Emporium which introduced in Manila the 1st escalator! Shoemart in Quiapo was my favourite shopping place, as a young college student. Alemar’s was an up-market Bookstore as far as my friends are concerned then, it had a mini Cafe within Alemars that served delicious Puto W/ dinuguan, Mami, etc. Odeon Theatre was classy too,at that time. Syvels Shoe Store in Escolta was my first stop for shoes, they’re a bit pricey than SM but they had very stylish & good quality shoes. Oh, the nostalgia is too much, thanks for the tour. 🇵🇭
Thank u for sharing, I leaned a lot po ☺️🙏🙏
History bleeds our memories!! (why its called madugong alaala!)
I started my college days at Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) in the 1960s, which is beside the Galaxy Theater, until MIT transferred in the early 1970s in Intramuros leaving only the high school building along Doroteo Jose. Lots of fun and memories surrounding these areas with various magazines and bookstores.
Thank you for sharing. It brought back memories when I saw the capt Pepe bldg. My father worked part time at that bldg. used to go there many years back. Please feature Pandacan where I grew up . God bless. Watching from Bay Area California.
☺️🙏🙏
I miss the old avenida , escolta, sta cruz area, quiapo and quinta market.
avenida rizal was the primier downtown during 60"s 70:s and even in the middle part of 80"s. a lot of department stores, movie house , bank, restaurant and i'm truely witnesses those happy time of avenida rizal
Those days along avenida rizal you will find so many cinemas theaters like ideal state ever dalisay universal lords jennet avenue odeon galaxy roxan scala.
Manila has an interesting story or history, however the city is kind of left behind by many big cities in the Philippines.
Ang advantage sana ng Manila and even Cebu is their heritage buildings.
Walang city planning.
Thnks brod for featuring Avenida Rizal. It brought back the memories of my college days. You forgot to mention Soriente Santos where you can buy expensive t-shirts n polo shirts. Also you didn't talk much about COD, the first store to feature animated maniquin during Christmas.
Salamat sir, as I’ve said po sa introduction, “Narito ang ILAN sa mga straktura” meaning po not all will be mentioned on this vlog.. but we might do part 2, if the viewers insisted for part 2😊🙏🙏🙏🙏
Part 2 is certainly additional information. Might as well include Republic supermarket, Clover theater. Likewise please include Jai Alai. Thanks
