I love the fact that Ryan was never driven by commercialism in his writing and performing. That special element speaks loudly to me in his music.

A lovely few minutes of insight from a fascinating artist. Love his description of the creative process. Mason seems like a knowledgeable and generous interviewer.

I remember when a friend of mine said "Did you hear that Ed Crawford is playing music again?" My jaw dropped and I looked dumbfounded as he continued, "Yeah, he is in some band called Whiskeytown." If Ryan hadn't picked up Crawford for awhile, it might have been a long time before I was aware of Ryan Adams. Strangers Almanac is one of the best albums, ever, imo. They had some cool singles, as well. I learned how to play Highway 145 16 years or so, ago.

Meniere’s is a terrible disease. It never goes away completely but certain things help. I used to get bad migraines, tinnitus (ear ringing), and vertigo. My vertigo went away almost instantly when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. What. A. Relief.
Another thing that helps a lot is Botox injections in the masseter muscle (jaw). The symptoms of Meniere’s can be exacerbated when the muscles in your jaw are so tight they impede on your Eustachian tubes. It looks like Ryan may clench his jaw based on what I can see. Botox helps relax your jaw muscles and keep you from clenching. Helped with my tinnitus a little bit but it’s still there.
Also - acupuncture/ dry needling. That stuff is amazing. They insert very tiny needles into your muscles, muscles you didn’t even know were tight, and it’s like a domino effect. All the other muscles in your body start to loosen up and the chi flows through you like a tidal wave because all that energy was dammed up in that point of tension. Amazing stuff.

That man is the real deal. Wish I could write music half as good as he does. Absolutely sublime.

I don't buy the, "feel like the only guy that doesn't speak French" deal. I think he knows his theory better than he leads on to. Maybe he doesn't talk in meters or the number system, but dude knows what's happening

i discovered Ryan Adams from Adam Duritz doing a cover of Come Pick Me Up and I have loved him ever since. His songwriting is off the charts. Who gives a flip about his hair. His concerts sell out in 2 minutes - believe me and then check eBay a pair go for $800. Someone out there agrees with me, he is a genius.

sheri9987 if he could think of some lyrics that were about something other than females,he would be a much better song writer,he definitely writes some smart beautiful melodies, but not a genius.

    Whiskeytown’s Pneumonia album...the end.
Ok he’s made some good stuff since then, but that album was his magnum opus.

    Strangers Almanac is great indeed
He's released some wonderful music; like his stuff a lot
The material with the Cardinals is damn fine, and his solo material more reflective and occasionally raucous

Love the hair, it's shorter now anyway but still edgy. If you see any of his old vids from years ago, he's gone through many stages with "the hair." It's pretty interesting. He was blonde (yes blonde) at one point. Take a look. :-)
