David S. The metal components (base for the heat shield? side panel?) are not printed, but milled. This is exactly why I have issues with most NASA video's from recent years, it is all ribbons and shiny foil packaging, without any actual content. Very often this leads to misinterpretation by the public..
M. Moolhuysen Not disagreeing with your POV, but details are great in text but get to be a little boring in a video. If you're a little light on the details and want to know more here is a follow up article. www.nasa.gov/feature/welding-begins-on-orion-pathfinder
OriginStudios For the SLS you mean, Orion is the name of the crew capsule. Space Launch System (or SLS for short) will be used to launch it and yes, it will use the crawler, wich is now undergoing upgrades.
Seems as if the wheel has just been reinvented. A truly functional orbital platform for assembly of a deep space ship is needed. There are serious issues with this system.
We currently spend less than half a penny of the federal discretionary spending dollar on NASA. We are starving one of the most enabling entities known to man. The Obama admin has done nothing to change this in fact tried to CANCEL SLS and Orion and rarely bothers to champion even commercial endeavors other than mostly lip service. America must change this. Remember when it's time to vote and write your reps.
I should have said Ares V, which is where SLS is derived. Bottom line, we have lost many years to Obama's horrible rudderless lack of leadership. Worse than Bush.
We should build a "International Spaceport", We humans need a quick access hub to space and I would like to challenge the architects of today to come up with a design to build a huge tower aka "Space-Scraper". Once we are high enough, sending humans/probes/ships to space would significantly reduce the cost; I believe this to be the next big imperative technological advancement for our species.

Puny-smaller than the moon mission rockets of 50 years ago... 60 years ago... and not just the budget should be 3× larger, $60-70B, depth-of-space should be 40-80 AU to the Kuyper Belt, crew size should be 3-sets-in-rotation 7-plus-science-observers, 23, mission margin should be 100% sidetrip (150% r.t. total), fleet size should 3 domestic, 1-each for other countries, its science should be scaled up to utilize half the technologies of Earth...
Someone was having fun in the edit suite... good vibes
Love what you do NASA. Keep up the good work.
Can't wait to see that baby light.
I want to see the SLS in action!
Edu - Krux172 2017 :)
+Eduardo M. Give them some time they've got to build it first. Which they're doing NOW. This rocket is gonna blow your mind.!!!
Assuming the US treasury doesn't block the funding. Look what happened when Obama got in over there, cancelled the Constellation program.
Fun to watch.
Nice 3D printer you got there, NASA.
