Love this tutorial on doing stems. Have been trying to do with the tape maker and it’s been very hit or miss. Love the preciseness of the first method. Thank You 😊
I am doing a circle of bias with leaves around the outside of it. How should I join the two ends of the bias? I have sewn the bias down as per your third style (on the drawn line of my big background contrasting square, place the the open bias strip that I made, a quarter inch from raw edge then fold over then deal with the second edge).
You have two choices with bias stem. One would be to applique the end of the top strip over the first end of the strip to join them. Or you can baste the bias strip in a circle to the block, find the place where the two ends will meet and piece them together to make a circle. Trim excess fabric leaving a 3/16" seam allowance. Finger press the seam allowances in one direction and then applique the bias circle in place. Or, if your pattern shows a circular stem, you could treat it like any other applique piece. Make a template of the circle, trace around it on a square of fabric. Finger press the inside and outside curves. Position it on your background. Cut away the fabric on the inside of the circle and applique it in place. Then trim away the excess fabric on the outside of the circle and applique it in place. All three methods work.
I special ordered my mats because I don't love the gray ones that are everywhere. My favorite is the one that fits my entire ironing board. You may be able to order from the same place. google Sutherland Felt Company. Mine are cut from 1/2" natural F-5 felt.
There will be some who might feel less than good for a day. I balanced that fear against the chance of getting Covid and dying or having lingering problems. And, yes, there will be a very few who might still get Covid later (it happens with flu shots too) but, again, the data suggest that if you do, you are likely to have a milder case than you would otherwise. I think of all the vaccines I've had that have protected me from small pox, polio, tuberculosis, and more. Covid is more one more virus that I want to be protected from. I hope this helps you with your own decision :-).
I got mine and am glad I did. I had minor discomfort on the second day, but I also have more peace of mind now. Please get it not only for your health but for others' health too. ❤️
Love this block and love how Becky teaches you to do things, makes it so much easier!!!

No problem with my shots...move your arm after getting it to prevent stiffness...I feel so much safer. Loved the “stem” talk.
What brand of wool mat do you have?
