Great video! Boston is my favorite big city in the USA! Many videos just kind of rehash the same known sites, but you mixed in some unique ones and some of the personalities that make Boston great! I love the people, the architecture, the compactness, the great seafood, and the Red Sawks! I definitely want to stay in one of those boats in India Basin on a future trip (a former corporate housing Co I worked for owned a building on India St, and it is a great area!). From Duckboats to Chowdah to Mt Auburn Cemetery to Comm Ave, it is a city lover's paradise - and every trip uncovers yet another nook or cranny. Cannot miss the culture either - from the MFA to Boston Pops, and scores of smaller venues, I love Beantown!
1. No one I know from Boston goes to Georges or Spectacle Island. 2. The subway system in Boson is not "T", it's "THE T." 3. Most people don't know about the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company museum on the top floor of Fanueil Hall 4. One thing they got very right in this video is that Boston is actually pretty small and easy to get around. You can see a lot of great historic stuff in just a few days. 5. TD Garden has a Boston Sports museum that is FREE on Fridays.
While the Union Oyster House may be the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the U.S., it is not the oldest restaurant in the U.S. The Union Oyster House (as shown on their sign) was opened in 1826. The White Horse Tavern in nearby Newport, RI is quite a bit older, opening in 1673. It is operating today but did not operate continuously, as the owners fled Newport during the revolutionary war as the city was occupied by Hessian mercenaries serving the British crown.
Yep. Tourists call it that lol. And as far as beans go.... you're be pretty hard-pressed to find baked beans anywhere except either at corny places that target tourist business, or the canned ones at the supermarket.
Ellen W I ALWAYS call it the Salt & Pepper Bridge, because that’s what my grandmother called it. She & my grandad lived in Back Bay since the ‘50s and pronounced Filene’s “Fuh-leen’s”
@@lyzyrdgyzyrd We used to eat "beans and hotdogs" (no buns) every Saturday for "lunch" but meat and potatoes at "suppah" (supper) at 5-7pm. The beans were actually "Boston baked beans" I guess, but they were/or came in, a can. :p
Oh, and I've always hated lobstah and claims. But, I was in the minority, as usual. The water is awesome, both for drinking and washing (soft water needs very little soap/shampoo to lather) and it taste awesome. The best city water for drinking I've ever had, though I've only been on the left coast, and midwest of the US
What about the spectacular Italian side, and the southern Irish side? Speak of the different cultures who moved in and out to other areas. OH! The Cannolis!
Yes, and the Jewish neighborhoods, that then became African American ones, after "white flight" and then there's "China Town" a place we'd go on holidays when every other place was closed; like on Easter, Christmas and New Years. Southy, or South Boston, for the Irish, South End for the Italians, then gays, and Roxbury was Jewish before "Blacks" began to move in & white people moved out, aka "white flight" and some Christians in Roslindale.
1. Don't drive, parking is horrible (see #10) 2. Boston Common is pretty, but boring 3. Visit during the fall 4. Mike's and Modern (pastry shops) are tourist traps. You can get a cannoli at a number of places in the North End without a line, try Bova instead. 5. Our bars close by 2am 6. Don't attempt the accent (no one likes a fake Boston accent) 7. It's not the Boston from the movies 8. If you want to do a tour, try a Pedicab 9. Never buy Sox tickets in advance, buy online day of game. 10. Bike is the best way to get around town, but can be dangerous if you're not used to city riding 11. Follow Boston Dan on all social media
Take a ride just south of Boston along Quincy Shore Drive, long scenic shoreline, beach and views of islands. Nearby is Maypole Hill where Thomas Morton of Merrymount (America's First Poet in English) was burned and hoisted out of the country as first order of Mass. Bay Colony's Puritan (and racist) business. By law whites and Indians could no longer live together or do "unregulated" trade. But Morton got the last laughs---explore multimedia at Ancientlights dot o-r-g. PEACE!
@Meghan zzstu Fradette Do the "Freedom Trail" starts in downtown Boston, and takes you around to famous landmarks and institutions around the city and beyond.
I'm going someday, to hell with NYC...The fact that the locals are friendly and will talk to you is fantastic...IMO,a city is only as good as the friendly people that live there...I'm from Seattle, known for the infamous ; ' Seattle Freeze '...Ad Nauseum...
I hated, and never would eat, lobster. They'd be in crowed tanks in the grocery stores. One time my father brought a couple home, and they were alive in the bottom of the fridge. I did not, nor did I want to eat them, I did think about letting them loose, (but I couldn't drive at the time) and didn't know where to let them go. lol

MrPhotoman75 has
the subway is "the train" or at least was in the "olden days" also Boston is large, but the downtown area is small.
Idk, I've been to Georges and Spectacle Island 4 times each because of summer camps.. They're pretty popular spots for the kids.
is warren tavern a touristy spot or do the locals of Boston really go there?
Gostei muito...quero conhecer mais sobre Boston!

I've lived in Boston my whole life I've never heard of the Longfellow referred to as the salt and pepper bridge. Its the Longfellow that's it
Thanks for explaining!
