    I wish people gave this game a chance. YW is far from what people think 'a pokemon clone'. I've played all the games for hundreds of hours, the story, the mechanics, I'd say it's better than the other monster collecting games. Lets hope this franchise will live on so we can play the games in japanes if we must.

      I'm going to learn Japanese to play 4. Just for that.
      You know I think Pokemon fans are salty that YW got success. Pokemon didn't coin the whole monster collecting thing but they say because it's the same genre it's a copy so they never gave it a chance and wrote it off way too quickly
      Fine. Any platformer is a copy of Mario. See how stupid it is when you simplify it?
      I remember when the game first came out and the watch accessory toy came out. I was in 5th grade at the time and was bullied when people found out I had it. Called it a baby watch and just made fun of the game. Im in 11th grade now. I just played 3 and Kirby this morning on my 3ds and I'm going to later as well. Fuck the haters and fuck the people who ignore Yokai Watch for being in the same genre as another popular game

    One thing about Yo Kai Watch 3 I remembered is that the game does show you that enemies won't just stand there as you do Soultimates, A and S (With some B ranks as well) will actually walk out of your Soultimate areas, so the game actually teaches you to bait movement by having higher rank enemies attempt to avoid them. It's honestly kinda fun how Level 5 does help teach you more advanced stuff as you go on even in just story/regular encounters.

    One note about Pokemon VGC: There are limitations in place as to how many legendary Pokemon you can use. Certain legendaries are only allowed two per team. Some are flat out banned. And certain items like Soul Dew are also banned as it overpowers Latios and Latias.
    So, draft leagues aren’t the only place you’ll see restrictions on teams. That being said, this isn’t anywhere near as restrictive as draft leagues or YKW competitive rules.
    But yeah, it’s not a free for all where you can stack your game up with as many overpowered Pokemon as you’d like. And the clip used was from 2016. So far, 2016, 2019, and 2022 are the only years where certain legendaries were allowed. Otherwise, they’re also banned.
    Obviously, this wasn’t a major point. Just wanted to make that distinction in case anyone got the wrong impression of how competitive Pokemon is formatted.
    Aside from that, this was such an amazing video! I love how you went in depth on everything! Great job!

    Even though I didn't get super into the game itself, Yokai watch is living on in the special place in my brain reserved for quirky Japanese kids media like Taiko no Tatsujin, and Doraemon. Aka stuff that didn't get nearly half as popular in the US but is everywhere in Japan (yes even Yokai watch had stuff in a lot of the stores I was there). But honestly calling the series a pokemon rip off, to me, implies someone hasn't played it. It was a hard game for me because everything was so unique from other games but I loved that. As for the lore itself I found it fascinating and actually a pretty good way to explain a significant part of Japanese culture (this is the first place I've heard of yokai/youkai aside from touhou). The show also got me weirdly emotional for some reason, especially with the Jibanyan back story episode. Props to the localization team for not actually changing the songs that much. I heard a rap and initially assumed it was a 4kids style type of thing, but nope, it was always a rap/funk (and I think the pun was supposed to be soul singing). But yeah I wish this stayed popular for longer cause I remember it being a very big thing for a small amount of time but I feel like it had so much potential.

They don't seem to realize they may as well just play Pokemon Red version and nothing else of they were actually gonna try to be fair discussing YKW games which is funny because unlike Pokemon games, YKW actually is a new experience between entries with how different the battle system is between them.

    What an amazing video! I've been a long time Yo-kai Watch fan and its battle system and overall gameplay really clicked with me despite it being so unsual for an RPG. I have hundreds of hours in the games and keep on thinking about if certain aspects are well designed or not (and if they aren't, how to fix them), so it's really fun seeing someone (finally) talk about these games in great detail.
    I do think that Yo-kai Watch's battle system has its flaws and doesn't use certain things to its full potential, but I think it's very well thought out and this video showed me even more depth I didn't know about.
    Yo-kai Watch has a very unique take on RPG battles, mixing turn based mechanics with the feel of an action game and although it's not for everyone, it felt like it was perfect for me, being simple enough to pick up and play and complex enough to build strategies. I dream of making a game that takes inspiration from Yo-kai Watch and refines it (simmilar to what Bug Fables did with Paper Mario or Hollow Knight with Metroid) and I really wanna see something like that become a reality (do it, indie developers!)

      Actually negative Inspirits are among the strongest team archetype in YKW3 cuz of Dr.Nocturne. Also debuffs are actually super important 2 but that's more because of Poking. Still, making bosses immune to debuffs is kinda weird and they're kinda hardto rely on in most ingame battles. Busters makes especially grateful to strong debuffs.

    And to think this motivation to explain Yo-kai Watch in-depth because some a-hole said misleading information about Yo-kai Watch's competitive gaming is weaker than Pokemons. You really showed whoever said that clearly didn't even play the gamse. Great work man, I learned a few things that I didn't realized.
    There's something I did took note you didn't mentioned; for Yo-kai Watch 1 on 3DS (I'm not sure if the Switch remake version has the same mechanics) the SPD stat was completely changed in the sequels. Instead of just mainly a turn order the Yo-kai will instead have up to 1-3 sequences of attacking depending on how high their SPD is. For example; Bloominoko with over 200 SPD will become a boss killer even for the final boss, especially as a Slippery Tribe member he can resist inspirits without much worry.
    Also, may or may not be important, but there's a *very rare* POKE function in YW2, if your lucky you'll do 999 damage to the enemy. I had done that before in my many hours of playthrough, but I don't remember if POKE can be done in online play.

    A question, what is the difference between a brainy and tender personality for a healer?
    Since tender will make a yo Kai heal their team. But considering a brainy personality makes a yo Kai use their technique. Which, for a healer, that technique is a heal. I can’t really tell why anyone would pick one over the other. Since they seemingly do the same

    • @DrCoeloCephalo

    Loved the video, saw you on Twitter and followed you here
    I’m surprised you didn’t go more in depth for slimamander’s transition from 2 to 3 in particular, poor bastard got gutted with not only an increased rank but also a change in his ability which made his technique hit all three yo-kai but with 1/3 of the power rather than the full power in 2. Level5 really must’ve not wanted what happened in 2 to happen in 3.

    • @DrCoeloCephalo
      @DrCoeloCephalo  2 года назад +1

      I didn't realize they nerfed the power of his AOE Technique but I don't blame them for that. When you think about it, most Yo-Kai can only hit 3 enemies at once by using a Soultimate which they are forced to charge up and can be avoided while Slimamander just has to wait its turn. You can still build teams around it, it's just way harder to do. Seeing all the team variety in 3 makes me smile while seeing how easy it is to exploit a full Slimanander team is annoying but funny.

    • @fluff018
      @fluff018 2 года назад +2

      Yeah love the variety in 3 pre-enma meta (still varied compared to 2), just love originyan so much
      It opens so many possibilities for teams, there are a ton of shady, brave, etc. attackers but not many supporters and originyans access of gold thundpurr and paradise with whichever ability it pleases makes team specifics much more viable, it’s fun to make full tribe teams and with originyan being the Jack of all trades that could pick up where the other teams left off
      They’re also a godsend for those unity bonuses especially with the nerf of needing 3 yo-kai of the same tribe meaning double unity bonuses are easier to accomplish

      You can't say that about Yo-Kai Watch cuz casual ingame bosses beat down bad players and the competitive format is fast paced and rewards active thinking.
