Ah, the memories that this car sets in me. In 1975, in Vancouver at the age of 17, I bought the exact same car. 1968, Pale Primrose, 4.2 etc. Sure got lots of lookers while driving around. Got my first speeding ticket 3 days after I bought it racing a Javelin on a main street. Lol! Wish I had kept it.

I own a 1968 E Type OTS with original factory hard top for over the last 35+ years. I've made a number of changes to the car, running no dizzy since I installed an EDIS ignition system. No throttle rods as I designed an accelerator cable system. Other minor changes to enhance the driving of the car. Each time I fire up the 3 SU carbs, it's as much of a thrill today as the first time.

My girl friend and I got our 1968 OTS in 1972. Same Primrose color. But ours had a red leather interior as it was originally a Silver E-Type. Its that car that I learned how to fix cars. It was our daily driver and we put over 100K miles on her. Every weekend I would check the timing, carburetor balance. Oil changes required 9 quarts. And yes, pushing on that accelerator was tough as it was direct solid rods to the 3 side draft carbs. Long story but it no longer exist as of 1979. I miss her.

I once owned a 68 FHC and then a 66 DHC when I was young. I still miss driving those E-Types some 40+ years later. I would love to get to own one or at least get behind the wheel of one once more in my lifetime. It’s the only thing on my bucket list. That’s how much these beautiful cars mean to me.

This is a great car. I have owned an E type for most of my adult life. I really enjoy driving them and I am enjoying this one in particular. New owner.

There shouldn't be that much play in the steering, and if the brakes are in similar condition, then the initial statement that the car was trying to kill him could be true, but it's not the car's fault.. The E type's front suspension is quite compact, and for its time was quite advanced. Every part needs to be in top condition, otherwise all the little jiggles add up to a big wobble. Polyurethane bushes would help a lot!

Entertaining vid. Thanks for posting but you need to get your steering and brakes sorted. The steering your E-Type should be tight. There are several issues that could cause an accident. Check your rack mounts for cracks.

Fun, well done, but a bit over the top. An E-type (especially a Series II, such as this one) has good brakes and handles well, and if it's properly set up it accelerates without "pushing on a brick". And the body is stronger than many cars of the period, and it doesn't "try to kill you" the way other cars of the period might.
I do applaud the sense of ownership & stewardship and sharing the joy, so bravo for all of that. And keeping one alive and driving it is a very good thing.

Maybe we've just become too soft as a society as a whole? I'm only 48 years old and my 1st car in 1981 was a Ford Capri V-6(with a similar feel to it's controls and body motions as this E-Type). I drove a friend's Capri recently and, to be honest, it felt GREAT! The direct feel from the cable controlled accelerator pedal, the manual rack and pinion steering, the external shifter linkage for the transmission, it all was a revelation how tidy and direct cars used to feel. Granted, the brakes(while disc) aren't as over-engineered as cars of today and the narrow 185 width 13" tires haven't as much grip as I remembered, but all in all, the car felt honest and predictable. Yes, no way can I drive it as fast as a modern car and avoid a collision as easily, leaving some distance between what's in front of you is mandatory at all times, but cars today have made us worse drivers more than better IMO.
ABS, traction control, etc., etc. have made people(in general) feel like they're invincible behind the wheel and whereas people used to look both ways and yield to traffic, today a driver is lucky if the A**hole signals before wedging his/her way in front of you as they cut you off and look at you as if you are a jerk for being in their way!
I took a co-worker for a spin in my bud's Capri afterwards and he was in shock as I pumped the accelerator pedal to prime the carb for initial start-up(he's 28 years old). He told me I was going to flood the engine with gas...... well, it's not his fault he's never been exposed to older vehicles, hopefully his interest was piqued(crossing my fingers on him). LOL

it was a truly amazing car.... but its still way over hyped. sad thing is these guys don't know how to drive it.... car culture from the 60's was different. cars like this were more gt's then sports cars. and even ferraris were driven like gt's. you don't rush the experience thats not what its made for. you're meant to cruise, sit back and just enjoy the journey and because theres no power anything. the driver still really enjoys the machine and thats what makes the gt better. these cars are actually best enjoyed when cruising rather than thrashing. its almost like a fine wine. you don't gulp it down! you sip and savour and take in all the flavour before swallowing and thats what a gt is. its a glass of vintage fine wine on wheels.

....no, not the MOST beautiful, but nevertheless very beautiful. The Ferrari 246 GTS is more beautiful, as is the Alfa Romeo 2.8, Alfa Romeo Disco Volante (which Jaguar totally ripped off for the shape of the E-Type), Ferrari P3/P4, Ferrari 275 GTS, Ferrari 250 SWB, Ferrari 250 TDF, Ferrari 250 LM, Lancia B24 Spider America, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider, Jaguar D-Type and Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. It mean something that Jaguar always resorts to what Enzo Ferrari said at that time to substantiate its claim.....

The Enzo Ferrari quote has not been verified, just as architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe quote "Less is more" has never been proven, though his architecture certainly reflected that approach. According to Jaguar development driver Norman Dewis, Enzo walked up to him at a car show and said, "Dewis, there is only one thing wrong with this car. It needs a stallion emblem."

  • @gremmann

Wow, what a neat video and interview. Bless you for driving it. My all time favorite car, and Enzo Ferrari was and still is right. It is the most beautiful car....ever.
