As someone who is looking for the longer length but also mobility for weightlifting, would going true to size on the original sleeve still be too compressive? I have the rehband 7mm and I do use them for weightlifting so in my mind the sbd 7mm is just a longer version?
I do heavy weights in general but also wanna use them for lunges, extension etc… my left leg need support… if I get the 7mm would you say I can do all my routine or should I pick 5mm?
Which one would you recommend for both Olympic weightlifting as well as for heavy squats and support in general. Since I can't get 2 pairs, which one is best for those Olympic movements and heavy squats? Or would you recommend Rehbands for the things I previously mentioned.
I would probably recommend the original 7mm SBD sleeves. I know quite a few weightlifters who wear them, and you will feel extra support for your heavy squats. I just wouldn't likely size down too aggressively.
Yo, was just curious before I make any purchases… the storm ,SBD , and Endure sleeves, are they all the same just different color or are there key differences with those too?
Hey man I love the video. I only do leg press and hack-squat machines. Would 5mm be better to allow for more range of motion on my hack squat? I lift heavy in the 6-15 rep range
It depends what the ROM you are doing on the hack squat. The 5mm might be a better fit if you are going full ROM. However I would think either would work for you.
What would you recommend for strongman? I’m leaning towards the 5mm but not sure if there’s anything I’m not thinking about (obviously 7mm would be best for heavy squats, but those are rare in strongman).
I think a case could be made for both option, I know many strongman/woman athletes that wear the 7mm for everything, but I've heard it expressed that the 5mm would be a good option for a high mobility medley. So I would likely still recommend a 7mm but probably at stock sizing and probably not size down on them just to keep the mobility better while providing a bit more sleeve.
I would say the Rehbands are still a bit stretchier, it's been quite a few years since I've worn Rehbands so this is going off memory, but the SBD's have a bit stiffer feel which I think is partially due to the outer abrasion resistant layer being less stretchy than the Rehband.
Hi, I recently sent back the 7mm sleeves as I didn't feel they were right for me, I'm not a powerlifter, I train more for hypertrophy so squatting and deadlifting more in a high rep range and wanted a sleeve for compression and warmth throughout my workouts including for exercises like leg press, pendulum Squats, Lunges, extensions ect.. Would the 5mm sleeves benefit me more than the 7mm? Call me strange but I didn't like the tightness the 7mm provided behind the knees at the bottom of the squat and felt very restricted. Thank you for your advice and video 💪
The 5mm are definitely a bit stretchier and less restrictive, they also are thinner so you shouldn't notice as much behind the knee at the bottom of the squat.
@old man strength go away! not everybody has Tom platz genetics or responds to stimuli the same way going heavy isn’t the only way to build large quads ask Phil heath never ever did back squats there’s one example seems to me your logic is based on flawed gym bro talk not based on scientific evidence. Time under tension
Hey, I'm looking for my first pair of knee sleeves and just wanted to say your videos are really helpful so far. I mostly train for hypertrophy/bodybuilding, but also like doing heavy high bar squats (3-5 Reps). What type of SBD knee sleeves would you recommend (5mm or 7mm)? I lean towards the 5mm ones, because I do go very deep and don't want to cut the ROM too much, but as I said, I've never used knee sleeves before, so I don't really know if that would even be the case with the 7mm ones.
@@InnerStrengthProducts Thank you for your response. I went ahead and bought the 5mm ones, and so far I absolutely love them. Great fit, high quality and no smell (yet). Now I'm looking into getting one of their lever belts, probably going for the 10mm one.
Which one of these would you recommend for a beginner weightlifter with knee issues? I find leg day to be somewhat painful on my knees and just looking for something to help with that.
If you are using the term "weightlifter" to indicate the Olympic Weightlifting movements of snatch and clean & jerk then I would recommend the Weightlifting 5mm knee sleeves, they will provide greater movement flexibility. If you are planning to use them mostly for heavy squats and leg movements then the original 7mm will probably be the better way to go.
I would likely lean towards the 7mm if you are lifting maximally, the 5mm will be better though if you intend to deadlift with them since they have a more abrasion resistant outer layer.
Yes for sure, I actually wear my 5mm for a lot of my training, normally just using the 7mm when it's a very heavy day planned or I'm closer to competition.
I would recommend the original 7mm knee sleeves for heavy squats. If you plan to wear them deadlifting I would be cautious since the bar drag can damage them. The 5mm have a special abrasion resistant outer layer designed for that sort of thing. So I suppose it depends which is more important.
I always wondered what the difference was, great stuff !
Glad it was helpful!
I find it weird that they charge more for the thinner/shorter sleeves
I believe this has to do with the abrasion resistant outer material as well as the antibacterial inner liner.
Stiff wrist wraps vs normal wraps next ? That'd be great to see
Thanks we'll keep that in mind.

We know a number of weightlifters using the 7mm sleeves, but yes I would recommend going with the "standard fit" recommendation.
I'm a bit confused which one I need, 5 or 7mm? I'm not a powerlifter but I do squats, leg press and deadlift in the gym. Please help!
Either model will work for you, if you plan to use them for deadlifts I would recommend the 5mm as they have a more abrasion resistant outer material.
@@InnerStrengthProducts thank you very much!

I’m 6’1 btw so my legs are long 😅
If you don't try to size down aggressively in the 7mm then you should be fine for all usages, however the 5mm maybe more comfortable.
Super helpful, thank you so much! :))
You're welcome!

What is the 7mm and 5mm referring to?
The thickness of the neoprene used in the construction of the knee sleeves.
Thanks for the explanation. For heavy legpress and lunges will 7mm be ok?
Yes, absolutely
Yo, was just curious before I make any purchases… the storm ,SBD , and Endure sleeves, are they all the same just different color or are there key differences with those too?
Yes they are, all the same performance just colour

It depends what the ROM you are doing on the hack squat. The 5mm might be a better fit if you are going full ROM. However I would think either would work for you.
I have seen 7mm kind of 2 sleeves 1 for powerlifting which is 99.9£ and other 7mm is 59.99
What difference in these both ?
The powerlifting knee sleeve is made with a higher density material that provides greater compression and rebound.
What would you recommend for strongman? I’m leaning towards the 5mm but not sure if there’s anything I’m not thinking about (obviously 7mm would be best for heavy squats, but those are rare in strongman).

How would you compare the Sbd 5mm sleeves to the rehband 7mm? I’m a weightlifter and only wear my rehbands with squats and cleans/jerks.
I would say the Rehbands are still a bit stretchier, it's been quite a few years since I've worn Rehbands so this is going off memory, but the SBD's have a bit stiffer feel which I think is partially due to the outer abrasion resistant layer being less stretchy than the Rehband.
So if your doing a heavy squat set which one do you choose
For heavy squats I would always recommend the original 7mm version.

I think the 5mm will work well for you. I personally wear them for most of my squatting except the very heaviest of days (singles or doubles).

Yes I would recommend 7mm if you are planning to compete
@@InnerStrengthProducts thanks 😁
Can I go heavy with the 5mm knee sleeves
Yes for sure, I actually wear my 5mm for a lot of my training, normally just using the 7mm when it's a very heavy day planned or I'm closer to competition.
what would you recommend for high rep heavy squats ?
I would recommend the original 7mm SBD knee sleeves.
I like to do hack squats and lunges but also squat and deadlift heavy for low reps which would you think is best?

@@InnerStrengthProducts would the 7mm be good enough for full rom on hack squat as well?
They might be less comfortable with more material behind the knee with the full ROM.
@@InnerStrengthProducts have used them for about 3 leg days, 7mm works good feels amazing in squats and hack squats!
Happy to hear that!
What about heavy squats what would you need ? 5 or 7?
For heavy lifts I would recommend the 7mm.
Wish I would have known the size difference before buying lol
They are sized the same, as in they use the same sizing chart, but they have significantly different levels of stretch.
