I can't root for something I'm not watching. I have watched enough women's basketball to consider it less competent than high-quality HS boys basketball. I would have watched if Clark was there because she did something special when she broke Pistol Pete's 54-year-old record. EDIT: Clark on the team wouldn't lose the gold medal. Like in the old days when the US men always won (except when they were cheated out of the Gold in the 1972 Olympics or the crap team they fielded in 1988), the US team will dominate. It's like the US female soccer. We, until recently, dominated because every other country was way behind the US. Well, right now, the rest of the world is way behind the US in Women's basketball. That will change.

Honestly, woke equals broke as the NBA found out the hard way during the pandemic. LGBT represents less than 4% of America,. The 96% is fed up with this initiative and most people don't care about women's basketball. It's a bad product and boring. CC is the only reason I will watch women's basketball or WNBA. Team USA has won 7 straight (pun intended) gold medals and will win an 8th this year with or without CC.
The only question is which team can come out on top as the most unlikeable group in the world, Team USA basketball or soccer, or American women in general. It'll be a dog fight!

With Team USA having 7 gold medals and not losing a game for the past 7 Olympics, has these elevate womens basketball to a higher level? Has it attracted hordes of fans throughout the years of dominance? To grow the game necessarily require fans to buy merchandise, watch the games in the arena, subscribe to media showing the games. One cannot force people to these. In other words, winning gold medals in the Olympics by itself cannot make the womens basketball grow. Patriotism does not make it grow. The fans has to be a necessary factor to go with the gold medals and patriotism.
So, if it takes a player to win the gold that won't stand for the national anthem, you are good with that?
The WNBA finally has an infusion of a superior BB player in Clark and they treat her like she’s nothing. The players of the WNBA treat her like dirt, they are racist because she is white and have no respect of her skills and her thirst to play the game for the love of the game vs celebrity or paycheck unlike the “top” WNBA players. I honestly don’t think the WNBA is interested in a player unless they are NOT white. I get the reasoning for not tapping Clark for the US team, I won’t argue with it. However, PROFESSIONALS learn to be a team regardless of personalities because they want to win and to be able to win you must be at the top of the game and I don’t think our US team will win because they chose “wokeness” over ability and thirst- that all “I have been here forever and deserve to be chosen”, kind of like Hilary when she ran for POTUS. Some of the US Team have players who have been with the WNBA forever and have not been outstanding players for a while. Pick a team based on ability and thirst and love of the game over “chemistry” or longevity or POC.

If you were wanting another country to win, you could argue that, but not just whether or not you watch the Olympics. Now, that being said, people can’t make their brains be entertained with something it’s not entertained with. If there isn’t excitement in watching a game for someone, why would they watch it? Watching the Olympics to try to make yourself come off more patriotic doesn’t mean you’re entertained doing it.

There’s no way you can say that diana Tarasi is one of the top even five or six guards right now. She has worse stats in every category than Caitlin Clark. There’s about five or six other guards in the WNBA that are better than both DT and Clark.let’s not even start about Chelsea Gray, who has not played a single game in 10 months and it’s still questionable for the rest of the season. Disagree. Women's USA basketball is literally the easiest gold medal the US can get. They can fill the 12th spot with anyone and still blowout everyone by 30+ points. It's a win-win for the Olympics and the W to have CC on the roster. The argument for having the 12 best is frankly pretty lame for a league that's complained for years about not getting the recognition they feel they deserve. I'll never root against the US, but I'm just as indifferent to them winning as I've been to anything concerning the WNBA to this point. It's hard to root for a league that make such obvious poor decisions yet complain at the same time. Not to mention the fact the WNBA hasn't turned a profit in its history. Growing the game should be their primary concern, especially when it really doesn't cost you anything but hurt feelings.

With or without Caitlin Clark The USA Women’s Basketball Team will win gold. Winning the 8th Olympic gold medal in a row will not change anything for Women’s basketball in teh USA or globally. But without CC on the Olympic roster, USA Women’s Basketball will miss millions of viewers, the dollars in revenue and the global impact that it desperately needs. It’s not rocket science.

I think there should be tryouts for US team. All players in the US try out not just WMBA players. Make the committee out of great basketball coach’s not from the WNBA. That way it would be fair.
