- Having been a FAN of Altberg for 20 years I decided to try a change in the form of the Daytona Road Star GTX. Altberg are English and Daytona are German. This video gives you some of the features that I have found to be different.

I got a pair of Daytona Road Star GTX Motorcycle Boots in 2016 mainly because they offered a wide fitting. They are excellent & still look new. Would recommend!
i have just ordered the wide fitting too, as i have trouble finding footwear to fit. Although my walking boots are Altberg XW and fit quite well, i didnt want to spend over £335 on a non refundable pair of roadrunner first to find i'm not totally happy with then, so if i aint happy with the daytona i will return to SBS and take a leap of faith with the altberg, but as it sounds like you have wide feet like me did you find they stretched a tad in any slightly tight sports to mould to your feet?. Tx
I’ve worn both and have got about 100,000 miles out of each. The Altbergs were replaced due to a zip failure and the Daytona’s due to wear on the sole. Both firms do a refurbishment service, I think Daytona charge about £135, Altberg used to charge about £90 but I’m not sure of the current cost. Of the two I prefer the Daytona due to the superior finish, the Altbergs are based in a hiking boot and it shows.
Thanks for the comments. I prefer my Altberg if I'm on the CBT pad as walking around a lot and they are very comfortable. I then prefer my Daytona if i want to arrive presentable, ride outs, meetings and the like. But both are great boots.
I agree, the Daytonas look great.
Hi,
I have just invested in a pair of the Altbergs, considered the Daytona but choose the Altbergs on price. I am an instructor also and have been caught in the buy cheap replace often trap. I have tried loads of different brands, most recently had three pairs of the Alpine Stars Web Gortex. They last about a year if that. The most recent pair is less than a year old and the tread has worn off and water is getting in over the toes. I am looking forward to the Altbergs giving far better service. You said about the split, you should have taken better care. How were you taking care of them to make them last as long as they did?
Thanks for posting and taking the time to make the vid, it's helped me feel better about the purchase.
Stay safe ;-)
Great to hear and glad the video helped
The Daytona Road Star GTX are arguably the Mercedes Benz of motorcycle boots. With these boots you get what you pay for. Take care of them and the older they get the better they feel. A solid purchase. Life short, just buy a pair.
Got to agree
Daytona are the best boots I have ever had. Use mine every day. I treat them with all the products that Daytona recommended. After 3 years they still look like new. Never leaked and super comfortable. I am considering Altberg next but that will probably be a few years as the Daytona’s probably have many years left.
John Dobson I wear them both and am happy with both tbh.
Good product review👍
Thanks fella
I just bought a pair of Daytona’s they are lovely and have raised insoles which is one of the reasons I got them
Fantastic Boots aren't they
RJH Motorbike Training Manchester To be honest I hadn’t heard about the Altberg ones before your video they look fantastic also, I bought their cleaning kit for my Daytona’s so thanks for that.
Hi - Good Vid - I have the Daytona Short sport touring boot and it has been fantastic for the last 4 year of riding. Comfy both on and off the bike. The only issue I have had is the soles are soft for comfort off the bike and better "feel" which means they are susceptible to aggressive foot pegs. For example I ride a BMW GS Adventure and i have had to put peg inserts on it because there were chunks chipped out from the soles of the boots after the first few month of riding. The inserts cured the problem. I know this causes problems for others because I have 2 other riding buddies who have had the same experience (one with a BMW and the other with a KTM Adventure S). I did enquire with Daytona if this was acceptable but the dealer was unwilling to accept there was an issue (which I can understand). I think I may give Altberg a try next time though as most adventure bikes these days have some for of aggressive foot peg profile.
Some good points. The Altberg are a mountain/hiking boot sole so much better. I find I wear the Daytona for lighter use and Altberg for heavy use. Both great in their own way.
Just happened across your video… with these boots do you wear you trousers/leathers/jeans inside or over the top of them?? Regards.. great videos btw
Both!
When buying boots it’s an investment not a fashion statement ,, cant believe you get 6 yrs out of a pair Rob that’s less than what most pay for trainers a couple of times a year ,,, good vid m8 👍👍
I have a few pairs of Altbergs on the go in fairness. Never can have too many.
Good comparison video. I have the Alt-Berg Roadrunner too and it's a great boot but also looking at Daytona boots. Is there a reason why you chose the original RoadStar GTX rather than the updated for 2020 RoadStar PRO GTX?
In all honesty no reason at all. The original is a little cheaper but have had my eye on them for a while. Im not disappointed yet either.
I’ve had my Daytonas less than a year and the soles are already coming off, I’m a motorcycle instructor and they haven’t stood up. I’m going to try the altbergs next I’ve got a few of they hiking/combat boots and always loved the quality.
Thanks for the comparison. Are either of the boots reinforced on the ankle bone or shin area? How protective would you say they are in general? About the same or is one more protective than the other?
In fairness very similar in protection. Enjoy wearing them both.
Gr8 video & review as always. what gloves do you recommend ??
Well anything Gortex. I have my eye on some Rukka but need to save some pennies up first as they are in the top price
glad you like the vids
