  • This video shows how to construct a custom made head form or head block which is used by wig makers to create a full lace foundation for a hand knotted or hand tied wig.
    Once a head wrap of the artists head has been obtained, it is then used to pad up the wig making head form or block. This custom head form will be a replica of the artist head.
    This head form or head block is then used to make a full lace foundation, the base of the human hair wig. This foundation will fit the artist perfectly.
    The lace foundation is then ready for the human hair to be hand knotted or ventilated into it to create your wig.

    Hi and thanks for the video. Would you be able to post a link to the type of cotton wool that you are using to pad the wig block? The video was moving to fast for me to properly see.
    Thanks

    Literally the best video on how to use a head mold to make your own custom mannequin head. Excellent job!

      It may be the best but it's still lacking. No way to know the process or materials, no instruction. I've been trying to figure out how to do something like this and I totally thought I was going to learn how with this video only to once again be disappointed

    Hello! Is a head wrap and custom head form necessary when making a wig using wefted hand tied extensions tha t don't involve any type of lace? If not what's the best way to get a perfectly fitting wig when making wig using wefted hair?

      Lareshonda Treadway hi I would make a lace foundation that fitted the head perfectly and then sew weft onto that

    Interesting. But your method is different from standard, taping the template mold to the block and then just padding in the air space. Any reason other than variation that you do it this way? I like this method!

      mamborena Hi. There really is no 'standard ' way I have learnt from my years in the business . Everyone has different styles and methods and as long as the end result has been achieved then it's all good. I have seen the wrap stuffed with bags, saw dust, paper. Plaster head casts taken and even 3D printing. I like this method as you get to keep the wrap for future use. I feel this way you are more in control of the head shape and firmness too. I put on eyebrows for cutting and dressing on the block too. If the block gets damaged you can make a replacement with the saved wrap too. It's whatever works best for you though. If you like it try it. Takes a little longer to create but I love the results better. Thanks for your comment

      As I mentioned, really like this technique. You get to use the same template head mold over and over since it is not taped down to the block. You also don't have to map/mark on the original template. I'll have to pay your studio a visit just to learn this properly! Thanks for sharing.

    About how much poly-fill and tape do you think you used? I'd love to do this with my class!

    • @maryjones6649
      @maryjones6649 2 года назад

      and what did you use to build the base?

    • @WAMStudio
      @WAMStudio  2 года назад

      About 2 large rolls of tape possibly 3 if a big head and cotton wool works better than poly fill as it taped firmer. The rolls used for cleaning babies behinds basically. The base is covered in cling wrap and paper over a bought malleable head block.
