U.S. Submarine STRIKE Iran Boat - Then THIS Happened…

Share
Embed
  • Published on Apr 14, 2026
  • A US Navy Los Angeles-class submarine tracks an Iranian frigate through the Indian Ocean in one of the most intense submarine engagements since the Second World War. This tactical breakdown reconstructs the entire sequence - from the fire control team building a targeting solution against a zigzagging warship, to the split-second decision to surface behind a merchant vessel's radar shadow, to the Mark 48 ADCAP torpedo run that changed modern naval warfare overnight.
We break down the real anti-submarine warfare tactics both sides used: passive sonar tracking, thermocline exploitation, towed array operations, dipping sonar threats from the Iranian SH-3 Sea King helicopter, and the wire-guided torpedo engagement that ended with a frigate on the ocean floor. Every weapon system, every countermeasure, every tactical decision - explained in detail.

It was an unarmed frigate with a crew of cadets. It was unarmed due to the conditions of the Indian naval parade (armed vessels are not allowed to participate).
Torpedoing an unarmed ship with cadets and abandoning its crew to drown at sea is an act in the style of Karl Dönitz's protégés, who received a 10-year prison sentence at Nuremberg precisely for unrestricted submarine warfare.
According to international humanitarian law (in particular, the Second Geneva Convention of 1949), sailors from a sunken ship who find themselves in the water or in lifeboats are considered hors de combat (hors de combat).
They are entitled to the rights of prisoners of war.

sad about the cadets. A few years from now they could be sinking one of our carriers. I flew H Three’s in an anti-submarine squadron 60 years ago. Nukes are very hard to catch. 😢the only time we did are admiral declared absolute radio silence. We never transited to the destroyer screen from the carrier in a straight line. Near the end of the exercise, the submarine put up a periscope which was cited by one of our aircraft. Our best weapon was the mark one eyeball.

Is there any evidence the ship was trying to avoid anything? Or even running her sonar? Because photo evidence presented showed no or limited wake off the frigate. It appears to be traveling a cruise speed, not evasive.

A good friend of mine was a sonar operator on a 688 class US submarine stationed at Pearl Harbor Hawaii, he said of Uncle Sam‘s underwater yacht club there were only two things- submarines and targets, and talked about “making holes in the ocean“ practicing target identification and acquisition and waiting for the right moment - Iran was in no position to challenge this kind of hardware and capabilities

I used to serve in the U.S. Navy years ago, and people really underestimate how quiet and lethal our submarines are. A Los Angeles-class submarine can stay submerged for months, powered by a nuclear reactor and equipped with Mark 48 ADCAP torpedoes capable of running over fifty knots. When a U.S. attack submarine gets within firing range, the engagement is often decided before the surface ship even realizes it is being tracked.

Endurance depends on how much food is crammed into sub.

Naval confrontations like this show how tense and strategic modern military operations can be beneath the ocean’s surface. Submarines operate quietly and are designed to remain undetected, which makes them some of the most powerful and mysterious assets in any navy. When situations escalate at sea, even a small encounter can quickly turn into a major geopolitical event. Videos like this really highlight how complex and high-stakes naval operations can be in today’s world.
