The characters of Jay and Veeru are loved and adored across generations perhaps because they represent two distinct personalities inherent to every person. We all have within us a Veeru, who is cranky, impulsive, and adventurous, and a Jay, who is calm, level-headed, and thoughtful. Jay is the adult within us, and Veeru, the child. Notice how Veeru defers to Jay every time the two are confronted with a tough choice, and how Jay always chooses for them the difficult, but morally correct, path after making a fake toss of coin (giving Veeru the impression that it is destiny that ordained them to do the right thing). Of the two, Jay is the silent conscience-keeper, and it is his inherent goodness that keeps the two from descending into moral turpitude. His death later in the movie therefore shatters the moral compass of Veeru, unleashing his wild and savage side.

Sholay 🔥! ...Will be celebrating 50 years of it's release on 15/08/2025. I agree....till date , no offence, but no better commercial masala movie made by Bollywood...Amar Akbar Anthony I think comes a close second, but not close enough. This movie had all the stars aligned for it it seems...right from the story by the best writer- jodi Salim-Javed , to Sippy films who had the deep pockets to produce such a movie , to Ramesh Sippy it's director , to the haunting BGM & music by the one & only R.D.Burman , the cinematography, the action & realistic action sequences, to the evergreen dialogues which no one can forget , the humour , the editing & the brilliant sound editing... every step , every horse hoof , every bullet & it's ricochet when not hitting targets... incredible! And what can one say about the star cast ! From top to bottom every actor perfect in their roles big or small ,giving rise to not one but many iconic characters who one remembers even 49 years after the movie was released, The movie which made many careers, in a way the action avatar launch pad of one of the legends of Hindi cinema, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan! Someone here has rightly said - Sholay is not a movie , it's an emotion !
