  • Another installment in my on going tower project. Additional Pictures can be found at this link: www.nc7j.com/pa/main.php?cmd=a...
    Getting much closer to the end now. This video covers grounding of the tower and details the work on the KF7P Junction Box and Entry Panel as seen in previous videos. This video shows the coax and control cable installed in the Entry Panel and Junction Box. Enjoy. Max NG7M

    Thanks for reminding me about KF7P - you just made him a sale. Bought a few things that were actually less money than one of the big Ham stores. Nice work on your tower! Got some good ideas about my next step in my project, grounding. 73

    Beautiful workmanship! Have you tested the ground system impedance?

      Great set up. Thanks for the share. I'm goin to mirror the other fellas concern on water getting in your PVC. Rain, sprinklers, condensation, water is sneaky. It will collect in the bottom of that PVC with the openings you've got. NT6U

      Hi Greg, thanks for watching. I haven't had any issues with water in 5 years here in the desert valley of northern Utah east of Layton Utah. I have a southern exposure and at the junction box I always cover the box which includes the opening where the coax goes in (you don't see that in the video). It's stayed very dry when I check the other sections that run along the back of the house which are under the eve of the roof. The run of PVC pipe is really not that long at the end of the day. I installed it above ground to make it easy to run another coax line. In the summer when the 100f heat beats down all day long, trust me... there is no water in that pipe and I crack the sections just for this reason under the eve. Plenty of air flow. I don't use sprinklers in the flower bed, it's all drip, so there is no spraying water ever on the pipe. Max NG7M

    HI, great setup. I was wondering if you had any issues with water getting into the Coax conduit. It seems open to the elements.

      No issues, it mostly runs along the house and their is an eve. The back of the house has a southern exposure too with the sun. Utah is really very dry compared to other parts of the country, so your milage might vary. So far, no issues that I know of and it's been over 4 years as of the time of this message. Thanks for watching.

    Great video. Very helpful for my first build. What is the dimensions of your concrete base as well as depth of the concrete. 73's!

      I went a little bigger than the spec called for on the base. 4' x 4' and 7.5' deep.

    How are you connecting coax to grd strip ? It looks like simple coax 239 connectors ?

    • @ng7m-ham-shack
      @ng7m-ham-shack  5 лет назад

      The ground strap is connected to a solid copper plate in the junction box and then I'm using Amphenol female N connectors off solid copper L brackets. Take a look at the pictures here: www.nc7j.com/pa/main.php?cmd=album&var1=NG7M%2FKF7P+Metalwerks%2FJunction+Box+%26+Entry+Panel%2FJunction+Box+Completed/ I could have used so239's rather than N's but I like the way the N's seal better without tape in the boxes.

    Y is grounding important for signal? Just installed imax 2000 on old tv tower. 55' to the top now. I ran a ground wire all the way to the base of the imax but didn't install the ground rods yet. Signal sucks

      The primary grounding is for the lightning protection benefit. If you are trying to limit noise you need to look at choking common mode current. Research and studying K9YC's published resources for choking common mode current related to noise at the receiver.

    I just bought a box also, does the top of all of the ground rods have to be buried or can they be left out a few inches to attach the ground wire or strap to it?
