Thanks for showing some of the realities of sailing. We need more people to show us these scenarios and not just the good side so that people that are thinking of doing it will be better informed. Cheers!

You are just awesome. Your narrations make us feel like we were there. I am sorry your mom got bummed out. That happens to everybody occasionally. It helps if some one just says you will be ok. It will be all right. We will be fine. Then go and do the best you can to overcome the problem. Check the knots. Check the heading. Check the sails. Aim the boat in the path of the least resistance through the water. When people get too frightened sometimes they don't have the best ideas. Fear is is natures way of setting of the alarm button. Saying you should do something. Then put fear away and go do. I am glad you got to port and safety. Ivo and your mom are great sailors they will take good care. God Bless your family.

Your poor dad he must be exhausted too and copping a ear beating from mum after the wind beating must have been tough. Good on him for staying cool calm and collected and great work capturing the breakdown

I'm sure your mum will, and by now has recovered! I'm glad you included her reactions, it's tuff doing a passage like that and not for the faint hearted! I've only just found your channel! Thanks for sharing and safe passage!

welcome to real sailing, the more you sail in strong winds and big waves the less scary it is until you finally love the sea in all her moods... cheers Russell

This is true. Not always a lot of fun, but Blue Water sailboats can take almost any weather.

Maya cracks me up! I think a passage like this is more comfortable in a heavy displacement bluewater cruising monohull, even though the heeling can be a pain. Mira is normally a trooper so this passage must have been really been bad for her.

Yes, agree about the the heavier boat... And a bit longer than 10 meters would make a difference...

so sad to see a lady breakdown...hey, let's swap. you fly to California and stsy in my house with my daughter, I'll fly to NZ and sail with Ivo and Maya ❤
but its true, you haven't much experience and this rough passage just made you a sailor. you made it through. so what if you broke down and cried in frustration. we all do. you're solid. keep at it

Attempt a passage in the Pacific Ocean using garbage as a safety device instead of using a designed for the purpose device? I would never put the lives of my family in that position

The storm must make it interesting and scary so that would be quite exciting right ? Wow yo mum lost the plot girl haha she sounds like a bit of a spoilt brat with yo Dad doing every thing copping the abuse haha just kiddingly
