  • This documentary was produced in 1992 by the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation and provides a brief history of the Pier with historical photos and video. The film was created prior to the construction and opening of Pacific Park and provides context to the Pier's historical significance as 'the last great pleasure pier' in California as well as sets the stage for the next chapter in the Pier's path to becoming the world-class entertainment destination it is today.

    My father was a surfer born in '46 and he said that pier was a whole lotta fun

    There were Two different piers in this clip. The narrator doesn't realize. Ocean Park Pier, and Santa Monica Pier. It's confusing I know.😊 But great footage still!

    My mother talked about going there during WW2 to see big bands. A lot of my family members went to California to work in the defense factories during the war and a couple of them stayed after. Sadly that generation is nearly gone and what they fought to rid the world of has now come to America and found an audience.

    i got busted there for taking a stuff teddy bear for a girl in 1978 stupid high on dust never did that again
