Hey mate - I think we agree wholeheartedly on some significant percentage of this, and I take your critical points on advisement. (You are, of course, more of a diplomat than me.) I am somewhat more critical of Toyota's performance with DPF implementations, and 'dusting', etc., but I agree with you that as a tow platform and a reliable off-roader, it is overall very hard to beat, and I doubt the 300 will be substantially worse than the 200 for the average grey nomad towing his van to Dingo Piss Ck. I enjoyed your report, BTW. Well done. I would add with respect that my comments about Toyota being the "king of mediocrity" do not pertain to the Landcruiser exclusively, but to Toyota as a brand more broadly. We are in furious agreement that in general, Toyota has decompiled the secret sauce of reliability - I've never had a shot at them for that. Love your work, dude - I mean that most sincerely. Well done. We'll both watch the 'hot vee' experiment with some interest. Great video mate. I find it hard to disagree with you on the vast majority of it. There's always a disconnect between the suburban LC owner and the actual adventurer to consider, also.

I have 2 cars on the Road, a p38 Rangie (horizontal split tailgate) and a 2006 Rav4 (barn door style tailgate)
I feel that the advantage of not having to add the weight of a rear wheel carrier on a barn door style means the space inside is far more useable especially when your tyres no longer fit in the standard wheel well (as in my Rangie)
    Other than that, Great vid

The split tailgate is going to hurt them. We might see an updated version in a few years to fix this stuff up. That's my hope anyway. Going to stick to the 200 for a long time.

My thoughts exactly regarding the split tailgate. When I discovered Toyota were omitting it I thought that the designers were idiots. It’s a huge fail for Toyota. A very stupid decision.

First owners are not offroaders, they are soccer moms driving their kids to school and Toyota knows this. They are not stupid, they know their customers are city dwellers that just want the image that comes with an offroader but those cars never leave paved streets.

@@Jaml321 Yes, except for the Australians. They take them off road all the time and love modifying them for that purpose. Which actually is quite nice.

@@Jaml321 Having a split tailgate in no way prevents “soccer moms” from being soccer mums. Removing it does piss off the majority of Australian buyers and as we buy a lot of them and take them off-road it is indeed a foolish decision by Toyota.

@@bannedone3ice138 Yeah but how many Australians buy a new Land Cruiser and beat it up in the bush compared to the rest of the world that take it shopping and want to wave their feet under the car to automatically open the tailgate and have a low load lip so housewives are able to lift their shopping bags into the car. People that are offroaders are a small minority and usually buy second hand since they know their cars get beaten up by what they do so no reason to buy new and loose tons of resale value with every scratch and ding.
