DOWN SOUTH Trains from Bangalore : Indian Railways

- Bangalore is well connected to almost every major city in the down South regions of Tamil Nadu and Kerala state.
There are two routes to enter the Southern part of the country from or via Bangalore . The first route is via Krishnarajapuram -Bangarpet - Tiruppatur - Salem by-passing Jolarpettai. The second route is via Hosur - Dharamapuri - Salem. The two lines meet / intersect at Salem which is a major Junction on the Southern Railway where the lines further continue and branch towards Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu.
Some of the important stations on the Salem - Trivandrum Section are Erode,Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Shorannur, Aluva,Ernakulam-Kochi, Thrissur, Allapuzha, Kottayam and Kollam. The line at Shoranur branches towards North Kerala places like Calicut (Kozhikode), Thalaserry, Kannur , Kasargod and further enters Mangalore and the Konkan Railways.
Important stations towards South East Tamilnadu from the Salem branch lines are Namakkal, Karur, Trichy, Thanjavaur,Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Velankanni. Villupuram , Puducherry, Dindugul , Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil and the south most tip Kanniykumari.

Seeing the Island Express (Bangalore-Trivandrum) at 23:08 reminded me of the Peruman train tragedy of July 8th 1988. This train derailed over the bridge on Ashtamudi lake in Kerala and fell into the waters, killing 105 passengers and injuring over 200. I remember watching news about this incident as a kid on Doordarshan News

Thank you.The LP's are given the liberty to honk as much as they want to alert the trespasser's to make way for the train. Cant help it as people trespass every where and if a train knocks some one they vandalize and damage the Railway property that's the mentality of our people.
