    Don't I love this camera but I am reserving my final judgement/verdict until I have a production model in my hands and after a few photofessional shoots. So stay tuned for our future review on this camera! There will be a few more mini videos using this camera over the next week too and you can see how this camera works in video mode (not photos because I want to wait until Adobe releases an update to work with EM1X RAW files first) !!

      Thanks Alexandre! I guess the difference come from that I am not a technical reviewer at all, and rather, we are actually photographers and filmmakers. It's always fun to play with new gear and see they fit into our workflow and in this case, the new EM1X does so very well! Love it.

      What the heck was wrong with the EM1ii body?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 лет назад +2

      @@jakelindsay6251 Nothing wrong. People are misunderstanding the purpose of EM1X. It isn't a replacement. It's a pro body at a higher level. My EM1 II is battered but it's my workhorse but the new EM1X has many new features that, at least to me, helps my workflow, speed and improve accuracy. Especially for what I do. The new AF is phenomenal but normal people may not appreciate. It can focus to -6EV, CAF now works much better than before for those who needs it. the new Intelligent Subject Detection AF is sweet (though I don't use it) but I can see the potential of this feature when they open up more profiles. Handheld Hi-Res is just awesome and Live ND is fun, more like Live Comp and Live Bulb that now becomes a must have feature in all Olympus cameras. One day these features will trickle down to smaller body and the EM1X will continue to push tech forward and will continue to be expensive, like the Nikon D5 and Canon 1D series. Same for Sony A9 vs A7 too, price difference is huge but one is significantly faster and there's nothing wrong with A7 or A7R series.

      I love our EM1 II and we have three of them, two for filming and one for photos. For us personally, we are getting the EM1X and replacing two of our EM1 II because of a few things that will completely change the way we work. For a start, the new CAF in video is superb, way more accurate than EM1 II in video. The nipples are great as my photography often involve changing focus points and in a pro environment, every little helps. Under normal circumstances, EM1 II is perfect and I do like the size of it too.

    Hi Jimmy, Great vid...as usual. I have a EM1 Mark II with a 12-40mm pro lens soon to be buying the 40-150mm lens.....love it. I was wondering why you think OLY didn't just put the improvements of the EM1X into a EM1 Mark III and all you need to do is use the removable battery grip on the Mark II/III? I like the option of having a removable battery grip because I don't always need it but nice to have when shooting portraits or need the battery power. Thanks for your input!

    Exactly the camera I’ve been waiting for. Professionally build and tough as nails 👍🏼 Makes the 300mm even easier to handhold. More choices are always a good thing. The E-M1 Mark II doesn’t get any less capable and that Olympus is keeping it in its lineup is a testament to how good it is. If you don’t need the integrated grip/even more professional build quality and autofocus improvements/.... just get the E-M1 Mk II. It’s not a replacement just an addition to the Oly lineup...

    Some comments are so stupid... "heavier than a Nikon D850"... seriously? Add a grip to it and a 70-200 and put the equivalent lens on the Olympus, we will laugh. 😂 It’s even lighter than my 5DIV (no grip) with the small 50 1.4... 😅
    This E-M1X is thicker and lighter than a 1Dx or D5 things and the long focal lenses are just so small and light. This camera is targeted perfectly right for the next Olympics!

      @TheCameraProject 5 лет назад +1

      @@Red35Photography Based on the Tony and Chelsea Northrup review, and their tracking focus examples, as well as the DPReview and The Camera Store, my gut says the A7III would beat it. Granted, I haven't had a chance to test. The A7III video autofocus when there is a person in the frame is just so responsive. I'm going to post a new video soon that I shot with that camera on full auto. It's not a review for that camera, just something I shot while I had it. You'll see it didn't lose me once. Even though I was coming in and out of frame and moving forward and back. It was effortless, no box to click, no object tracking or face tracking mode to select, it was just easy.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 лет назад

      @@TheCameraProject Looking forward to it mate. I must admit that the EM1 II wasn't great in CAF with face detect and I was actually surprised how good the new EM1 X did with face tracking. Ok, still hasn't got that cool eye detect like Sony or Fuji but this is the first time a reliable CAF in M43 arena for sure.

    • @TheCameraProject
      @TheCameraProject 5 лет назад

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 лет назад +1

      To certain extend, I agree. But a few things that stood out is the build and that new CAF. It's by far the best in M43 or even dare to say competes well with bigger cameras.

    • @buchsg
      @buchsg 5 лет назад

      Red35 Photography Yes, but the question is this, is it worth the extra ... for 3K, I can buy 1 G9 for stills and 1 GH5 for videos and maybe save some cash. Very similar performance, and I find this Olympus body too expensive to be competitive ... an A7III, an Z6, an EOS R are cheaper, not bigger and full frame.
      As much as I like Olympus lenses, I prefer to buy Panasonic bodies.
      For me this EM1X is a niche product for a handful of people, i hope for them they'll come out others bodies in 2019, like the EM5 mkIII...

I have been a pro and used FF Canon and Leica for the past 15 years and eventually settled in Olympus' EM1 II. It served me well. Hummmmmm!!!!! Don't ill be rushing out for this 3000 dollar baby and I certainly won't be cashing in my EM5 MKII or my EM1 MKII to get it. Pro's and con's I know but the size for me defeats the object of M4/3. Nice to have two fast card slots though.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 лет назад +2

      Yes John, the EM1X isn't for everyone and I don't think Olympus wants it too. It's aim at certain type of professionals only. It's expensive because of certain new features and that super rugged body, it does feel substantially more dense and solid than even the EM1 II. I love it, despite the size and weight, there are features that make my life easier as a pro, I guess every little help to ease my workflow and make things quick and better, like I would pay more to get the 1.2 to squeeze that little bit more out of the sensor when you can get similar results with 1.8 lenses.

      Well, if you are coming from Mark 1, you will be blown away. But having said that, there are a lot of similarity with Mark II. In terms of IQ, it's pretty similar so unless you need all the new AF goodness, 7-stop IBIS and ruggedness, EM1 II will serve you well and still get blown away by the speed. But they aren't targeting prosumers to buy this camera aren't they. If I was a sports photographer who owned a 1DX II or a D5, i'd have considered the E-M1X for its price seemingly slashed in half to what I had already spent but for some killer features unique to the E-M1X (at a cost of low-light performance, according to some reviews). Hi there, thanks for watching. Well, a short answer is yes but not sure how fast. You need to use a conversion adaptor like Metabone to make it work. I don't use one but when Em1X is finally arrives (late Feb) you may see people start to use it and give more results for comparison. As of now, on EM1 II at least, it works but a little slow so for normal AF operation, it's ok but not for CAF (or painfully slow).

    Jimmy, a couple of the reviews I've just seen are really critical of the EVF on the new camera, but you are not. But the reviewers have much more experience with OVF's I think. Is your sample at least as good as the EVF on the EM-1 MkII? That would help me to understand what to expect. Also could this be a function of pre-production samples? Thanks.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  5 лет назад

      Hi Tom, thanks for watching. Well, the EVF resolution is same as EM1 II but magnification is much bigger at 0.83 (I said 0.84 in the video). I think they are critical because they look at comparing to other EVFs on the market. It's not a confirmation but I believe Olympus didn't use OLED and higher res screen a few reasons, power-consumption, generally OLED consumes more power, it has better colours of course but at a slight cost. Reliability, OLED has shorter life than traditional LCD if you use it a lot, which a professional will, for normal people, it isn't much a problem. Then the refresh rates will not be as quick, ask any professional gamers, they still opt for 1080p LCD screens than 4K LED or OLED screens for game play due to faster refresh rate and it means, better representation of movement in 'real' life especially when 120FPS is enabled. This is critical for capturing fast moving objects. There isn't anything out on the market that approaches 120FPS (not hertz because FPS is much faster!). So all in all, I think it's a great EVF for its intended purpose, capturing actions and being a reliable professional tool.

      @PPISAFETY 5 лет назад

      @@Red35Photography Thank you so much for your very thorough reply. My only experience with an EVF is on my OM-D EM-1, and it looks just fine to me. So if the one on the EM-1X is at least as good, I think I'd be happy with it.

    Like you say, It has everything except 4K 60p, but more importantly , IMO, it lacks 10 bit internal or external recording. So like the other big manufacturers, Olympus have crippled the EM1X when at this price bracket 10 bit should have been a minimum. Which is annoying as i’m invested in the system with the EM1 mk2 and previous to that the MK1, and I was seriously considering the 1X. I may still go for it, but at the moment with a tad less enthusiasm.

      Cheers Johnathan, well, I was a little shock about exclusion of 4K 60 especially now they have the power (dual quad-core processor). But they never really advertise this camera as a video camera and that's enough said. I think they are reserving for future firmware update and may also be for the upcoming new EM5 III or EM1 III whenever it comes. They are really showcasing AI focus and it looks promising but it's still in its infancy and will improve drastically over the next couple of generations. I am happy after testing it especially I am primarily a photographer and RUclipsr, those features work great. I don't need 10-bit and also, to most people, I don't think they can tell. For me, it means easier and faster workflow.

      Red35 Photography with all things considered this camera has a pretty full palette of features that the majority will never use, and some new technologies that I’m sure other companies will look at as well and hopefully Olympus will also improve upon with firmware updates etc.
      I’d have thought that as the target was Professional photographers who nowadays encompass stills and video olympus wouldn’t of held back on the video at all, so 4K 60p and 10bit which is what the latest competition of mirrorless cameras all have.
      Maybe we will see these added in the future. I’ll be getting a hands on in a weeks time within an olympus road show so looking forward to that.

    Good review as always Jimmy! =D . Hmmmm i think i will stay with my EM5 Mark II. Don't get me wrong, the AI is tempting for those who live by photographing sports or wild life or else who need speed and accuracy. It just doesn't fit my genres (portraits, wedding, sweet 17th, streets, food and landscapes). I think this camera is not for usual consumers. Even for vlogging, the size is to big and now days 4K with 30 fps is kinda old tech. Then about the size, i'm also not like it. It's true the size almost the same as EM1 Mark II with battery grips. But then again, if i has EM1 Mark II, i prefer without it. Better brings 3 batteries without compromise the size. In the end, what ever it is, this doesn't make me judge m43 is dead. I love this system. For US$ 3,000? better invest on pro lenses though or buy Godox AD400 PRO. It's more productive investment.

      Thanks Reza, respect and appreciate your comments rather than just say 'Bad, horrible, big and expensive' like most people. This camera is design for a certain types of pros and not a consumer camera which what most people are looking at it. As a pro for so many years, after a day of shooting, I can already tell the difference and advancement. I am a wedding/travel photographer too and Em1 II is more than enough for sure but as now I am on RUclips and do vlogging a lot, I do find the EM1 II is a little limiting due to the unreliable CAF, it's still better than GH5 and G9 in my opinion but the EM1X is on a new level which I really appreciate. So the trade off? size and weight which I am happy to adapt while giving me what I need. EM5 II is a brilliant camera and I love mine for travelling :) Oh, 4K 60, yes, I made that remark in this video, I was a little disappointed that it hasn't got it :(

    Can see where price is going to be a major issue with this camera since you will be able to get a Sony with a full frame sensor for less and better under low light. E-m1X has some nice new features, but not enough to justify upgrading from my Olympus OM-E that I use now. Hopefully after this has been out for a while Olympus will reduce some of the prices on it's older models, but this new EM-1X seems to be aimed at it own separate class. Like the camera, but after seeing other camera brand reviews that are presently out, I can't see the justification from Olympus on the much higher price.

EM1X may look only a minor upgrade from the brilliant EM1 II which I've been using for the past two years but after testing it, I can confidently say that it's a camera for me. Yes, slightly fast, slightly more accurate and this and that but combine them all, it's a much better camera for me as a pro who use the camera non stop. I've covered over 200k frames last year and filmed everything on this channel and all the bodies (3 x EM1 II) are near their end of life frankly! So, the EM1 X is a huge boost and we are more than happy. To most, EM1 II is more than enough, hence Olympus is keeping it in the line up and not replacing it. There will be a EM1 III in the future so stay tuned.

    This camera may be great, but it’s a market nonsens at this price point. Better buy a sony a7III that’s cheaper with a bigger sensor

    To be honest my $200 EM5 or my $300 EM10 Mark ii will take photos just as good. If you want video a $500 G85 will deliver better video. If you want actjon photos the $900 G9 will do .......but for $3000 you can get a HUGE tank named the EM1X....sad sad 😪

    I don't understand why this camera exists. It's so fucking big..and as far as I know you can't remove the grip? So it's basically a Em1mk2 with a grip and a few new features? Just why..? Next year Panasonic will come out with a G9x that has a built-in battery grip with 6 extra batteries so that you can take 5000 photos..Geez.. Where's the Em5mk3??

    3000$
    Is there at least only one reason to chose this rafters than a Fujifilm XT3 or XT30.
    The Fuji XT3 is about 1500$.
    This is the most pointless camera of the decade! 3000$

    You did minimized the importance of the bulky size and the double weight and the 2x cost ??? All the reasons where the MFT format had an advantages are gone ??? How can you be so excited ??? Also Jared Polin just put out images and over ISO 800 it was not too good , so don't call it PRO camera , to be pro camera for sport shooting you need to have at least 6400 or better, and no grain ????
    My disappointment is in the 20MPX sensor, too old and too outdated , should be replaced with perhaps a 30MP if yo want to keep up with the PRO market. The pseudo 50MPX is a joke , can you do 0.5sec or longer for landscape photography ??? I don't think so ... Now many vlogers are already saying 1KG body for $3000 is not a valid option .....
    I feel that the integrated vertical grip is a mistake, many people don't use it and it would make it smaller, lighter and less expensive ... bad move on Olympus side.
    Also I believe that soon we will see the price to slide down , for lack of interest .... there are too many FF cameras smaller and cheaper already on the market and more is coming ...
    And where is EM5m3 ??? I rather see that on our market .

      Thanks for watching mate. Well, I didn't play down on anything but rather concentrate what's important for me as a professional. I am not disputing anything and rather appreciating what others are saying too. My opinions are mine for what I do on a daily bases. Look, I had 150 shoots in 2018 and all done with EM1 II, the camera did about 200K frames and near it's end of life with no failure. We filmed everything in this channel with EM1 II also. People have been too harsh on comparing specs and ignoring the fact that what's important, making a photographer happy. There isn't a perfect camera but a perfect tool. For that, the Olympus cameras haven't failed us. The EM1X impressed us. Also, I shot in low light a lot and none of my clients ever complaint. It's my photography they are appreciating and they don't pixel peel or analysis grain/noise. If you submit a print to competition, they won't judge on that alone.

    Got to say this camera just isn't worth the money and I've always been an Olympus fan. I'm going to move over to the Sony AR iii just because it's a better and more importantly affordable package but keep Olympus as a back up and holiday camera. No amount of spin can justify a 3k price tag for an old 20mp sensor in a full frame body. The whole point of a micro four thirds was it's compactness hence this overpriced expensive offering just doesn't make sense

      You are totally entitled to your opinion mate and thanks for watching. But I don't think or never thing that Olympus designed this camera to appeal to the general public. Just like Canon 1 series and Nikon D5 series, they are aiming at different type of photographers or those who are already using 5D or D700 that are craving for faster AF and more robust bodies. Now Olympus is aiming at those already using EM1 Mark II and grip combo (trust me, there are a lot of photographers are using this combination on a daily basis, wedding photographers for instance) that wants a more robust body and better AF for more reliable results in a pro environments. Then they also want to appeal to those who needs more compact pro system than their current setup. Franky in terms of system size and weight, even with EM1X, it's still much smaller than equivalent systems. Mind you, you will sacrifice DoF and some lowlight performance but if portability is key, which in some fields, it's a much better options. Many pros use and own multiple systems and myself included. M43 is a great option for those who need to travel light. But for consumer and more compact solution, just have to wait for EM5 III or PEN-F II :)

    This camera is doomed. So many better options at this price point. I don't get it...
