    In his address, George Mitchell explained his belief that no conflict is beyond resolution. He considered the state of play and the prospects for peace in the Middle East and reflected on his experience of the Northern Ireland peace talks.
    About the Speaker:
    George Mitchell served as US Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from January 2009 to May 2011. Previously, from 2000 to 2001, he served as Chairman of an International Fact-Finding Committee on violence in the Middle East.
    Senator Mitchell also played an important role in the Northern Ireland Peace Process. From 1996 to 2000 he served as the Independent Chairman of the Northern Ireland Peace Talks, during which time the Good Friday Agreement was adopted.
    Senator Mitchell served in the United States Senate from 1980 until 1995, and was Senate majority leader from 1989 to 1995.
