People clowned on this game hard and downed it when it came out but honestly I loved it! Woulda been nice to get a sequel or have them dive more into the other characters stories 😢
The biggest problem with the game was the fact that the budget was slashed to pieces. You can see where stuff was cut, such as his transformation mechanic. He was supposed to get at least four transformations that yo ucould freely switch between (they would primarily be your melee options). The materia and gun systems were originally planned to be more expansive. More enemy variety too. They just had to take a chainsaw to a lot of it and the result is a mess. I still enjoy the game, but I won't deny it's flawed at best.

I like how the very end of it features the two characters who have battled with losing their humanity; though in different ways. Sort of analogous to how some people can struggle with the same; though in different ways. And yet, in the end, they are on the journey of restoration; though in different ways. And aren't we all on such journeys of redemption; though in different ways.

Played this game when I was a kid and loved it, watching this now cus I finally got to play remake for the 1st time. Cant wait to see Vincent in remake. What I don't remember is hating Lucrecia as I do now. She is responsible for so much suffering in these games and I honestly have no idea why she did any of it! She has a lot to be sorry for....
I actually read somewhere that the developers were actually surprised just by how hated she was a character by a lot of players. She rejected Vincent over Hojo due to feeling guilty over the death of his father (who it seems like she might’ve had feelings for in the sense, as she brings up how much Vincent’s eyes are exactly like his father’s, pure speculation though, but wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case) as well as feeling sorry for Hojo for being inferior to Professor Gast (This was brought up by someone on Twitter) and offered up her’s and Hojo’s son for the Jenova project, only to end up not being able to see or hold him once. I don’t feel sorry for her one bit as I really feel like she kinda manipulated and played Vincent for a fool when it came to his feelings for her, only for her to end up feeling guilty too late after she had caused him so much hurt and suffering. If Square even tries to make her into a more victimized character in the remake, I can’t say that I’m gonna be feeling any sympathy towards her at all.
Final Fantasy Week begins! We'll be doing all Final Fantasy vids for the rest of the week leading up to Final Fantasy XV! Dirge of Cerberus is one of the best stories out there. Really a hidden gem. We hope you enjoy!

wow, what a game... you know even though the gameplay wasn't the best I have to admit square really does know how to put a good story together. I only wish we get to see a sequel for this story.
This game is probably the most underrated in the whole FF7 series some of the characters were just beautiful especially Rosso the Crimson with her lovely Russian accent this game deserves a remaster like Crisis Core
not its not underrated, the gameplay, writing and dialogue is abysmal.....if the game was so good it would have had remakes, good reviews and not ignored by SE and most of the fanbase for decades
I think it's incredibly underrated. I thought AC was abysmal and just goofy. This story has so much depth and badassery in it. The gameplay was not great tbf, but the story is phenomenal. I'd love to see a remake
the reason ff7 is so popular is because its has amazing story... well all final fantasies have that. The real reason is that they work on it, with so many games and videos and media it explains each character in so much detail that it is amazing. The ladies in ff7 are some of the best. love Tifa.
yes, ff7 characters especially cloud, are the most complex and fleshed out characters in history of final fantasy, the story in ff7 was brilliant and all these compilations add to the story and characters and people relate very easily.
No not all Final Fantasies have great stories or even great characters. FFVII is where it started becoming the norm and 12 and 13 is where the games dropped the ball in that department.
No, @@RichterTheRat, FFVII is merely when the franchise achieved widespread acclaim and popularity. FFVI established engaging stories and rich character arcs as the norm (although FFV was no slouch and could arguably have been the first). FFVII's popularity had much more to do with the way it showcased the PlayStation's capabilities. It had full motion videos with an anime aesthetic in a time when DBZ was skyrocketing to popularity, an enchanting jadepunk fantasy setting with this twilit splendor mashed with a kind of dirty industrialism (similar but not identical to VI), and gorgeous battle models as opposed to super pixelated chibi models. The rich story and complex characters, the materia system, the godzilla-like monsters (emerald weapon, ruby weapon, ultimate weapon), and the various gimmicks (chocobo breeding to get the golden chocobo) are largely what kept people playing. That said, FFVI brought an incredible story to the table, and is still fondly remembered despite being leagues behind FFVII in terms of the UI and the graphics. Terra, Locke, Celes, Cid, Sabin, Edgar, Cyan, Gau and Setzer instantly jump to mind despite the game having something like sixteen playable characters, because all of their stories were so engaging. The overarching themes about the corrupting influence of power and the abuses that man is willing to perpetuate against nature and his fellow man for the sake of power and progress are just as salient. And many of the same archetypes remain: the sleeping goddess, corrupt institutions willing to commit any atrocity in search of power, ex-soldiers seeking to escape their past, a revolution of political dissidents seeking to preserve the planet, and so on. They both had breathtaking orchestral soundtracks by Nobuo Uematsu, and this shines through despite the fact that FFVI was developed for SNES. FFV was pretty solid too, but I remember so little of it that it's difficult to give the game a fair hearing. It was one of the few RPG's that didn't just handwave away the fact that you could only have so many characters in a battle at one time. It killed off certain characters, gave characters good reasons for leaving your party, and generally created the sense that you were always parting ways or rejoining for your own reasons, rather than arbitrarily telling you that you had to select three people for the next dungeon.
Everybody watching this after playing the remake? Deepground was introduced in the ffv7remake. Not the org, but just the experiments and part of the facility. Where you you're gonna save wedge who fell off and also cloud and the gang fell. Also, the human experiment was ontroduced as well in hojo's lab.
He was ALMOST Sephiroth's step-dad- Almost... Dude- did you omit the hidden ending?! The hidden ending is the key to the real threat and the entire timeline!

@@Leighv Exacrly what I was thinking as well! I stopped from commenting as I couldn't remember who had black or brown hair but wouldn't it be interesting if either were her sibling :)
And there we have Vicent like "shit, I just help to save the world of an almost god silvered long-hair guy and his alien mom". "Didn't you see that a F#$"#% meteor almost destroyed the planet?"
I love this movie and the characters, especially Vincent! I severely disliked Lucrecia and Hojo. Lucrecia is incredibly self-centered who cares more about science/research than the well-being of people. Hojo is just plain evil. They are both horrible people who did some heinous things. In the movie, it made me laugh so when Cid said that if anyone is killed by these punks, he'd bring them back from hell and kill them again! lol
This is interesting. Are you pointing out when Lucrecia came to Hojo, making baby with him and abandoned Vincent behind, in account of your judgement "incredibly self-centered who cares more about science"? If yes, it is funny that you a woman don't get it why Lucrecia did it lol
It was Lucrecia's choice to marry Hojo, not Vincent, and that's fine! That was her choice. But like I mentioned before, her wanting to experiment on her unborn baby to further her science research is unethical and incredibly selfish. The only good thing that she did was save Vincent's life after being shot and experimented on by Hojo. Even so, I still despise her and of course, Hojo!
You don't get what I mean. Did you consider why Lucrecia decided to come to Hojo? If you remember well enough, it was after Vincent incidentally discovered that Lucrecia actually worked with his father before, and moreover it was Lucrecia's experiment which accidentally killed the old man. Vincent himself said "all I wanted is the smile on her face, but after that day the light goes out". It is safe to assume that Lucrecia came to Hojo to provoke Vincent so he stop giving care to her anymore. That's what she thought in my opinion. Lucrecia blamed everything on herself. She couldn't endure the guilty feeling to the death of Grimoire, which actually was an unpredictable accident. But BEHOLD THE CHAOS! Vincent is a magnificent character. I think we both agree on this. He only wanted Lucrecia's happiness more than everything. He threw away his own feeling of love (yeah, it's love, though he never come to say it). It was the power of a simple "okay". Vincent thought it was by conscience Lucrecia decided choosing Hojo. Vincent said to Shelke, "she (Lucrecia) only believes what she wanted". He honored Lucrecia so much, you know... and that's the form of his love. He didn't give up on her, not even a step go away from her. This is the diamond we can have by playing and undergoing Dirge of Cerberus. So, you see, what happened there was a result of pure innocence. And such innocence resulted an ultimate tragedy when Vincent heard the fetus Lucrecia bear gonna be experimented. He couldn't hold it. He came to Lucrecia and Hojo. He didn't believe how could Lucrecia doing it. "Is this what you really want?", that's all he wanted to know. He only needed the answer straight from Lucrecia. Of course he didn't agree with that, but this is how my premise about such honor prove itself. He heard that Lucrecia decided it by herself. Then so be it, "if that could make you happy". This is kinda wild, but I think Lucrecia thought it could make Vincent forget about her. The decision is not actually about science matter but, again, to provoke him. Yes I know Lucrecia is a true scientist herself, but here another diamond we can have. We can observe and learn such insane contradiction of science brain to woman heart. For me personally it is paradox par excellence. She was out of logic. She pushed everything as much as she could without considering the result in the future. She wanted Vincent go away because she thought it is the best for him. But again BEHOLD THE CHAOS! "Okay then, if that's make you happy". Yet Vincent still in hope. He came to Hojo personally, trying to convince that mad scientist the experiment may be fatal for Lucrecia life, but all he got was a bullet. Then Hojo had experiment with Vincent's body (which make him biologically immortal) and failed, which made Vincent dead. But it was only for a while because soon Lucrecia found him and began implanting chaos spirit to his body. She witnessed the metamorphosis and just more grieve she had. The suffering culminated when Sephiroth was born but she was restricted to see her baby. She couldn't bear it anymore, so she excommunicated herself from the world forever by going to the cave which later named as her name. Meanwhile, Vincent awoke at Shinra minor in Galian Beast form. He thought "this is my punishment for not stopping her that time". He began blaming himself since then, so he locked up himself in a coffin for more than a decade (of course without getting old and thanks to Hojo by the way😂). If you play FF VII you know that Cloud and friends who opened the coffin. So you see... both Vincent and Lucrecia saying sorry to each of them all the time, and it was end after the Omega defeated. Their epic tragedy saved the whole world! It's not for nothing. It's worth a planet life! "I never blame you. All I want is the smile on your face. You are the reason I survive".
I love how tsviets are a secret not even rufus has heard of, but whatever passes for wro command units somehow recognize tsviets from the names of their top members.
I get that Scarlett knew about them as head of weapons development, but at any point in FF7 she could've been like "Oh hey Rufus if you want to get rid of Cloud and Sephiroth I have these neat color guys in my basement. You'll love 'em."
Lord was I really 16 when I first played this? To think its been 12 years, since the day I unwrapped this and a Phil Colins CD on my birthday...wow memories! FF7 great cast of characters from Before Crisis-Crisis Core-Advent- and this Dirge of C. Great great story.
Never played this game so whoo-hoo to a new experience! Also, Steve Blum sounds like George Newbern's Sephiroth here, lol! I'm used to hearing Steve Blum and thinking TOM from Toonami (which is how I guessed the voice actor correctly here. He hit a note that just sounded like TOM, lol. But his regular gruff voice sounds like Sephy).
Who here wants Steve Blum back for Vincent in the Remake? I appreciate that Remake included a lot of (to my knowledge) relatively unknown VA's but this is a hill I want to die on for this character.
I feel like I like Vincent because hes like a vampire that sleeps in a coffin, but his more like a gunslinger that kills some bad vampires. Like he is look more like brother of Sephiroth. That is the reason why I like Vincent.
Dirge of Cerberus is a okay game. I like the music, story, & Vincent Valentine is my favorite. The reason I play because it takes place after Advent Children and know the protagonist's past.

Unfortunately for now, it's a mobile exclusive title and it got delayed to release this year's summer
Same, especially with Nero and Weiss making an early timeline appearance in Intergrade
People clowned on this game hard and downed it when it came out but honestly I loved it! Woulda been nice to get a sequel or have them dive more into the other characters stories 😢
My thoughts exactly it has really aged well
The biggest problem with the game was the fact that the budget was slashed to pieces.
@@RenegadeVileI hope Square remakes this along includes the stuff Square were suppose to "include". then again, I don't want Square, like any game company now, to bother remaking this..
@@Nicomanism Same, and even if they did remake it, there's no guarantee it'll be any better. Writing has always been their weakest point and that's only gotten worse over time.
But with a decent budget and the original team, they might be able to at least improve it. But I highly doubt they will do so. Unless Vincent inthe Remake proves to be insanely popular. It doesn't feature Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, Zack or Tifa (or fucking Gackt...) so it'll get 0 attention from them. Just look at Advent Children. Most other characters just stood around doing nothing.
@@RenegadeVileI would 100% take this project as an excellent starter to a remake, it’s potential was there and the post game was pretty ingenious for a ps2 game at the time, so many unique areas
Such a fucking cool character. The edgy 12 year old within me makes it impossible to dislike Vincent.
Underrated comment
30+ years old and I still can't dislike the epic edginess.
This is GOAT'ed.
Every cutscene, only important snippets of gameplay, no obnoxious commentary.
Wanted to experience DoC to understand future Remake endeavors, but don't have a PS2 or a powerful enough PC for smooth emulation, so this is perfect.
Thanks, man!
Ok so Dirge of Cerberus is all about Vincent, Crisis Core is all about Zack, and the original VII is about Cloud... Did I get that all right?
Richie Green yep Before Crisis everyone never play the game understanding all about the Turks
yes this story is about vincent yeah crisis core is about zack fair yep could was in all the games
Well no. Ff7 is about the 7 people that ultimately save the world. Crisis core is about zack, cloud, sephiroth. Dirge of cerberus is about vincent becuz he is the first jenova-S experiment and i think seph is vincent baby
@@yeflynne sephiroth was actually hojo's child frim his relationship with lucrezia, using lucrezia's unborn baby as a subject for jenova's experiment (later born as sephiroth), While Vincent was a result of lucrezia's experiment about omega and chaos, not jenova's project.
Actually they are all about Sephiroth, think about it. It's all about his birth to his supposed defeat.
played this game so many times back in the wonderful ps2 days. Long before pre order bonuses dlc locked on disc content and the ridiculousness you see in the industry today. Good times back then.
I remember the day I bought this, I couldn't wait to get it home and start playing it. Best times were when we just needed the game, no bonuses or dlc.
Those were the days
I love that Vincent's dad has the same dramatic Hot Topic kid fashion sense that he does.
I like how the very end of it features the two characters who have battled with losing their humanity; though in different ways. Sort of analogous to how some people can struggle with the same; though in different ways. And yet, in the end, they are on the journey of restoration; though in different ways. And aren't we all on such journeys of redemption; though in different ways.
this game was so depressing for some reason... it just made me really sad and made me feel uneasy
Just like original final fantasy vii
Yep mega corporation ruling the world would do that, but would be cool to be a soldier for sindra , pay is excellent, health benefits, and housing and the people benefit too lol
@@tylersoto7465 When in Banora and Tseng mentions he's about to excavate a fresh grave, Zack makes a noise of repulsion and asks, "Turks do that sort of thing?" to which Tseng replies, "It's alright, Turks are paid more." Which absolutely floored Zack, lol.
So, SOLDIER is cool but if your name isn't Sephiroth, you're probably not making a killing. Turks is where your real money is at as an alternative. Which is...sad :/ Front line soldiers shouldn't make less than the equivilant of someone in the FBI.

Wow, forgot more about this game than I thought! Didn't remember Yuffie in "INTERmission" wearing the shroud and making an entrance was an homage to this.
Exactly Square really know how to revisit classic content
Shelke looks like a kingdom hearts character
Yeah, she kinda looked like Kairi.
It's the big shoes.

Vincent: I am not a vampire.
The only thing in tfs is Vincent is not a vampire but he sleeps in a coffin wearing red had a gun he’s like a vampire that i Ever saw one.
What does wearing red and having a gun have to do with being a Vampire?

Played this game when I was a kid and loved it, watching this now cus I finally got to play remake for the 1st time. Cant wait to see Vincent in remake. What I don't remember is hating Lucrecia as I do now. She is responsible for so much suffering in these games and I honestly have no idea why she did any of it! She has a lot to be sorry for....
odd to hate a virtual game character
She was a terrible mother. She literally let get him abused and left him. She created a child that almost destroyed the world twice.
Final Fantasy Week begins! We'll be doing all Final Fantasy vids for the rest of the week leading up to Final Fantasy XV! Dirge of Cerberus is one of the best stories out there. Really a hidden gem. We hope you enjoy!
one of my favorite games on the PS2 and its a hidden gem. Love the gun customization in this and the story is really awesome!! The gameplay is very basic but fun nonetheless.
nice...does this have any gameplay too?
I put a little, but just very minimal amount. Not much is needed for story purposes
ive played this game, but im still troubled up until now about vincent, did he died?
No, because he is in Advent Children: Final Fantsy VII
wow, what a game... you know even though the gameplay wasn't the best I have to admit square really does know how to put a good story together.
@@hayatojin2886acting like crisis core isn't there for the worst writing
Hojo = The joker: scientist version.
Joker is better than Hojo
Steve Blum made an excellent voice for Vincent.
2:50:45 I like Nero bails as soon as Yuffie shows up like, "Yeah, I don't got time for this. Bye."
the reason ff7 is so popular is because its has amazing story... well all final fantasies have that. The real reason is that they work on it, with so many games and videos and media it explains each character in so much detail that it is amazing. The ladies in ff7 are some of the best. love Tifa.
Shahzaib Arain True dat!
yes, ff7 characters especially cloud, are the most complex and fleshed out characters in history of final fantasy, the story in ff7 was brilliant and all these compilations add to the story and characters and people relate very easily.
The dialogue is kind of weak but the plot is nice.
Glad they didn't forget about this game by adding Shelke into World of Final Fantasy =)
They also added the song arms of shinra as the battle theme for the Vincent job in mobius final fantasy.

Genesis redimed himself in the end of crisis core, and even if it's him, we'll never know now that they're working on the remake rather then another sequel based on genesis

@@Leighv Exacrly what I was thinking as well! I stopped from commenting as I couldn't remember who had black or brown hair but wouldn't it be interesting if either were her sibling :)
I will always see this game as Final Fantasy VII's Metal Gear Rising.
Regardless of the reasons, it doesn't condone her actions.
Lanette Diax Well, it's not the reason. It's the fantasy.
