Helpful tip* Label your white pans before putting the paint in them. So you remember which color is which and what brand. ❤
Love the video, very good info!

Very informative video! I wanted to offer a trick for stopping the gush of paint coming out of a new tube: gently squeeze the SIDES of the tube at the bottom. It creates a vacuum that sucks the paint back in! Works almost every time! I say almost because every so often a massive amount of paint will come out before I squeeze enough to stop it.

Thank you Sarah for using the tube paints in your projects! I now have many tube paints since I started buying them in Dec 2023. Started with Artist Loft student grade and then purchased professional Sennelier and Daniel Smith. I still use some of the Artist Loft occasionally for a particular color but love my professional paints since they have so much more pigment and are very easy to get transparency, mix, reactivate, and smooth when using. With so many paints ... I either have them dried in a pallet or in pans. I highly recommend using a sharpie to mark your pans before putting the paint in them. Also it helps to make a quick swatch chart of your paints so you know what is what on the pallet.

This brings me back to when I was a beginner and trying to figure out what to buy! I started off with a Gansai Tambi set that is much closer to gouache.
Would love to see a video in the future on which colors you'd put in your own custom palette! I have my preferences but it's always interesting to see what other people choose.

Ahhhh!! The guitar intro!! So pretty! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And yes! The paint coming out so fast when you open a new tube gives me so much anxiety! 😂 Similar to trying to read those crazy angled words at the beginning of Star Wars! 🙃😂 Love love love all my DS paint tubes! Favorite color for life is Green Apatite Genuine!

Another thing I have done with that over squirt of paint with a first open a tube is to have a piece of watercolor paper nearby and I put it on there and you can use it as a dot card.

❤Thank you for this info. When I open a new tube and paint squirts out I get so angry! Also, with the tubes, which I like, are new…never been opened…I have a really hard time opening the caps on the tubes. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so my hands are weak anyway. This is not related to the video but I struggle with it so I dropped it in here. Bless you, Sarah, Michael and family. ❤️🙏🏻

Great, informative video...thanks! I scrolled comments far enough to see Micheal made the tube holder (I knew it!) but I want to know if it is necessary to store tubes upside down for some reason, or if you did it that way because that is how it fit in the holder. I've been storing mine horizontally. Thanks!

Very helpful video.. do you have a similar one for cakes? Or do you plan to do one? I am starting to work more with cakes vs liquids on some things but I find myself having muddy water sooo fast because of all of the mixing/switching colors, and not sure if there is a best way to use those.

I’m using watercolor tubes and with the white, I do feel like I’m using a lot of it already even though I’m only taking out a small amount. I’m mixing it with other colors and so it’s mixing into the white. But I’ll try the wet paper towel method!

What is the science behind what makes some paints lightfast and others not? I was curious when you explained the powder pigments and binding agent. Is it something in that? Why are liquids not lightfast? Thanks!

    • @Honoralexandria
      @Honoralexandria Месяц назад +3

I don't know all of the science, but the short answer is that liquid watercolors are dye based, not pigment based. Dyes are (generally/usually) not lightfast. Pigments generally are lightfast(although different pigments have different lightfastness too)

Sarah, you talked about the paint that gets around the threads of the lid. Do you have a Golden Gripper Tube Opener yet? I've seen them online at Blicks. Everybody who uses tubes needs to know about this wonderful tool. Your painting life will be enriched knowing this exists and then getting one.

@@LetsMakeArt I also found something similar for jars when I couldn't open a pickle jar. I spent two weeks trying to get it open with all the tricks I knew. Same thing happened with a jarred spaghetti sauce when I was making dinner, and we ended up just having buttered noodles. It takes five seconds or less now to open jars with the jar opener. Now the same thing exists for paint tube lids. It's really the little things

How do we know that the color we have is the same shade or color you are using, ex: You say use a Lemon Yellow but I don't have anything that says Lemon Yellow, is there a way to identify that specific color or pigment by another name or tube. Are Lemon yellow standards the same for every different kind of paint? Sometimes I get confused on knowing what yellow (For example again) is best since there are so many shades of a color.

Michael did in fact make that awesome paint holder. He wasn't taking orders... but the amount of people who are interested is making us feel like he totally should be giving the people what they want.🤣
We'll chat and see what we can make happen. Stay tuned!
