When my grandfather worked on the railroad they used them. They called them "tie dogs"....to lift railroad ties.

@@danvanstralen I am really enjoying all of your families channels. The scenery is beautiful and everyone has such positive attitudes. I know you have family in Oregon but if you ever need a driveway to camp on your family is always welcome here in Oregon City.
Looking forward to joining your Patreon channel.

Wow, what amazing cabin build. And I like all of the new tools you got as they really make it easier. I never built a cabin but I am learning a lot just from watching you. Thanks for sharing your adventures

I am so glad to see you are wearing proper shoes while building, I hope they ae steal toe in case a log drops on your foot. I've been binge watching the Epic Family Road Trip videos from beginning and you were always running barefoot every chance you got, reminds me of me growing up. I hated wearing shoes. I would take them off when walking to school & teachers would make me put them on before I went into class and wasn't allowed on the playground unless wearing shoes. Back then, Sidewinders could be found on our playground. LOL! Yep! I am very old! You are doing an awesome job with building the cabin. I have my father's carpentry and construction books from the 30s and was hoping some day to put them to use, but never had the time or money. They are in mint condition due to my Dad wrapped them in some sort of brown paper, almost like paper sacks.
You are doing a great job and persevering to make your goals and dreams come true. Not many people can say that. Congratulations to Caroline, I am looking forward to seeing their wedding picture. You all must be so happy! May God continue to Bless and Protect your entire families!

Wow. A great video and especially the work on the boathouse; most of us in the states use the upper floor of our boathouses as spare lodging; it is so useful, especially with your family; and with your sister bringing her bridal party for a stay. That work was quite timely. You get better with those logs each time I catch up with you. That gripper should have been sold in pairs! Our iceman used to use one to haul in the ice blocks for our icebox (long time ago). I can't wait for the next one so have a great week. And that part barge idea was perfect too.

Hey Dan, when you're chopping the branch stubs off the log, you might want to stand on the other side of the log so if the hatchet glances off it won't hit your leg
