I’m Mexican/ American living in Japan for 24 years and the thought has crossed my mind as to what I’m doing so far away from my homes in Arizona and Hermosillo, but I‘ve been comfortable living here in spite of the occasional earthquake and typhoon, and honestly don’t see myself going back to either Mexico or the U.S. Things are far from perfect here but “home is where the heart is”, and if you two enjoy living in Mexico, then live it up and enjoy the unique life path you’ve both taken, no matter how many times you make mistakes or have to move. Everything is a chance to learn and grow so full steam ahead both of you!!! 頑張ってね❗️👍

Years ago, 3 friends and I went to PV for a 10 day vacation. We rented a house in the hills above the church. It was beautiful, with pool , very open, had 2 kitchens, 5 bedrooms, all the stuff you want. We were there for 2 days when the water storage tank on the roof sprung a leak and flooded the entire house. So we too had to move to a different place. I feel your pain. Unfortunate that yours was a place you wanted to stay for a long time. Water ruins everything. Best to find a place next time that is on the 2nd or higher floor which is not backed up to a hill that can flood.
Best of luck to you and stiff upper lip. Years from now you'll look back and laugh. We're all rooting for you.

Even though I've lived very poor in the US most of my life, I still have to remember that there are certain norms, and comforts that I'm used to, and as I get older i have less energy and resilience to live in the struggle. So I am learning to be gentle with myself when planning and making choices. Just because i have, and could live very very simply, it's also okay to seek a few comforts and indulgences. When I'm in Mexico, I now take into consideration that the most simple affordable path is not always the best. I can have a list of compromises, and wants that factor into the trade offs. It took me into my late 40s to learn this. So y'all are ahead of the curve.

You two brave young comrades will continue to weather unpleasant, character building challenges for many reasons, not the least of which is your ability to laugh at unexpected screw-ups. life will provide you with endless example's of Murphy's law. Don't forget to stop, take a break and view your challenges from a different perspective. Sometimes that means doing something else for a bit. Go out for a walk. You didn’t go wrong! Anymore than I did the day I decided to call New Orleans home.
Embrace the struggle! Whether we call them Nora or Ida we lean into bad times hard and come out better for it.
I haven’t been home since Ida made landfall. I have embraced it and have really leaned hard into this.
    READY for the next storm.
    Y’all stay strong!

Ahhhhhhh guys, I am so sorry. I hope you like your new place. If not, we would set you up with the awesome guys who found our place for us. I don't know if you made a "mistake" as such. You just didn't have all the facts and needed to revise your decision once circumstances became clear. You will find this is unavoidable in life and is likely to happen again as you get older. You will be very lucky if it doesn't. Take care and I hope to chat with you if we happen to meet again in PV.

How could you possibly know that an apartment several floors up would flood?? Sucess in life is frequently accomplished by dealing well with the hard things that happen. You guys are good at that. I love the short little videos of your everyday life. I miss the little tiendas. Hope to be back at my house on jaltemba bay soon for a while.
