Absolutely iconic riffs. The early AIC songs were so ahead of their time. Can't believe this was released in 1990. There is a tutorial on RUclips where Jerry himself plays this, so that was great to reference to get the rhythm down as close as possible. For the leads, Jerry sometimes played things in different positions so I found the earliest live footage I could to base the tab on. We split the solo in two sections simply because this is how it’s done on the album. It's hard to show a talk box in a video with the head is cut off, and it doesn't work great with the modelling software anyways - so we didn't add that in.
@jasonsheppard7428 what can i say, he was even on Woodstock 99 with George Clinton, hes called Michael Reuben, the most funkiest man i ever knew, so good that hes waiting for my comeback to jam out some funk on a synthetizer
When recorded, if i remember right, Jerry Cantrell in an old Guitar World interview longtime back now, stated that he used both a cry baby wah and a talk box for the lead melody there after the chorus, and for much of the rhythm tone on the rhythm track. I love how abstract Jerry Cantrell could be while still playing with so much melody and feel.
First one here and I just got to say thanks for covering one of my all time favourite song. I just got to say you taught me guitar man and I just got to thanks keep doing great and making other people great❤❤❤
The guitar tone on this song seriously shouldn't work as well as it does IMO. Obviously distortion and wah are cool, but in such large doses I find they usually lose their power. Obviously it helps to have one of the greatest voices ever on the song as well, but your version captures this unique tone so well, as your videos always do. Keep up the great work, this stuff really helps beginners like me
I just learned this and performed at a local bar some weeks ago lol. Great cover. Also, would you please cover "do the evolution" or any other pearl jam song please
Sorry for the offtopic. Did youtube delete your lesson on Malmsteen's song "Far beyond the sun"? Greetings and congratulations on the best TAB channel on youtube!
The notation is sorta incorrect. An E7 would be an e,g#,b,d the 1,3,5, minor 7, this is two notes not a chord. It’s also an eb so it’s wrong there also. All that said if you know the song you’ll know what they meant.
Im late...but PLEASE, I NEED A TAB AND COVER FOR "KILLERS" OF IRON MAIDEN, MAYBE AS A TRIBUTE TO PAUL DIANNO? IDK BUT I NEED TO SEE A VIDEO OF YOU PLAYING "KILLERS"

I friggin love that Cantrell uses blues riffs all the time, and they sound this massive. Truly a master at his craft
What an absolute beast of an album and a band.

really showcases the importance rhythm guitar as the base for any riff building.

It's good to see Alice in Chains having a well deserved renaissance. They are a massively underrated grunge/metal band from the 90s

Never noticed that open, 1st fret on the low E. Doesn’t sound like it fits by itself but it does with the song as a whole.

Jerry is like the Gilmour of grunge
So with an E in the bass and higher D note that's an E7. Interesting sound for a heavy song. Kind of a unique riff?
