This song is based on an Italian story that took place during the 1500-1600's called "La citta di smeraldo". It's about an "ugly" man who got harassed daily because of his "grotesque" looks. To avoid this harassment he would shut himself up in a castle alone wearing his mask. The only thing that brought him comfort and joy to his life were planting flowers. One day he discovered that they have been disappearing. It turned out to be a girl who's been stealing them to make a living for herself. The man wanted to help her out, but he was afraid that she would judge him and not accept merely because of how he looked. Since he didn't want to open up to her, he specifically made a unique flower unlike no other in the world. It took many attempts, but he was finally able to produce a whole garden full of them. He wanted her to take them so she could sell them at an expensive price. The man waited and waited for the girl to come back, but she never appeared no matter how long he waited. He decided to go out and look for her wearing his mask not knowing it was too late. He eventually found out she had died. The song is simply portraying the story and the aftermath.
