Bro during the season I had the best batting average at the 6th hold just because I had no power but I can agree you lead off the inning every time unless your first 3 all get on base
I am a pitcher and I was batting the 2 hole all season, and Coach would always make me bunt/fake bunt, so he would tell me to bunt until I got to two strikes (most of the time) and then I had to bat with 0-2 most of the time and struck out or popped up because I was protecting the plate. At our last tournament of the year, coach bumped me down to the 7 hole because I “couldn’t hit” (which was in a sense, true, and I woulda done the same thing), and then he stopped telling me to bunt when I got moved down in the lineup and BOOM! Got out of my slump and was hitting ABSOLUTELY FANTAISTIC. I’m talking- I hit every single at bat. Thank you for listening to my late night rambling session 😊🥴 you have my respect for reading all that
@@AdalynMorris lol, my coaches son played SS and pitched growing up but he actually deserved too, i told my team this year “and i don’t have kids yet so SS and lead off are both wide open
Most travel ball teams I’ve ever played for, the 1 and 9 would often be interchanged and would ride the hotter stick at 1. Having two speed guys in front of the big bats after the first comes in clutch.
@@HondaGuy21 Dj Lemahieu is batting 9th tonight for the Yanks. 2 time batting champ. If getting base knocks and getting on base is your thing, and your team has a set leadoff guy, batting 9th is more important than batting 6,7,8, flipping the lineup over faster. What good is getting on base 2 or 3 times a game and routinely not being able to use your wheels.
@@HondaGuy21generally on teams ive played on in my life the 7 or 8 was the worst, if its two outs and the 9 hitter is up you want the top of the order back up. that being said i bat 8th for a while lol
that just means your manager doesnt understand the lineup roll over.. 1) contact/ speed 2) contact at all costs 3) contact with power 4) power with contact 5) contact with power 6) RBIs is your only focus - bring in the best hitters 7) speed and contact to move people over 8) contact to bring people over or in 9) speed to either get on or out & top of the lineup theres a reason we were so good and it had to do with padding the lesser hitters in to cover their butts..
Usually for my teams it was 3 and 4 switches, 4 is consistently hitting bombs and 3 is hit or miss. 3 is to put maybe a run in and get one or two in scoring position, 4 is cleanup
Actually enjoyed and preferred batting 9th. Didn’t have power and wasn’t the best hitter so it made things easier for me. Lead off before the lead off.
I batted 5th my entire high school career. So true. I had zero power and below average speed, but boy could I get on base. The 6th hitter didnt have to lead off the inning all that often.
9th batter and here’s why: My coaches want me to to get in the pitchers head so the 1st batter can have a clean hit or a walk so usually I hit it to the outfield or I get walks I don’t strike out normally
I put my slowest guy lead off because he has the highest OBP. Walks a lot and has a low wiff%. 2 never bunts. 3 isn’t the best hitter but can hit doubles. 4 is same as 3. 5 doesn’t strikeout etc. This type of lineup is relevant but old school.
I was the number 3 hitter when i played many moons ago. I had an obp above .500 but that was just cause i had a good eye to not swing. I didnt have much power and i wasnt super quick but i would make pitchers work. I remember i started looking over our numbers one game cause i got pulled after taking a noggin pitch. I fell in love with that end of it. Loved looking at the numbers and seeing things play out.
I was a 1 not because I was fast, but because I was really good at baserunning. I loved mindgames with pitchers I would take the largest lead possible I could and ride the line closely so if they tried to pick off I would be able to get back everytime. I also hit first because I was hitting 550 that year.
If the 4th batter is to arrogant it’s a strike out. Also, if somehow by a miracle the 4th batter gets lucky with a fourth ball after striking out 3 times. It’s very possible the fourth ball is definitely a home run out of the ball park ! I don’t think there is going to be any more balls after the fourth one. Baseball is normally played with 3 balls but sometimes you get a fourth ball. I guess you can call it a chance of luck 🍀
I just moved up from the line up to 3rd I was 6th my avg is in the 600s now I was hitting in the 6th hole 300s I’m super happy of my self and super relatable
Batted 6th most of my life. Almost always led off the inning. Had one of highest batting averages on team so got on base a lot. And almost always stranded on base path by 7-9 hitters
Lead off batter for YEARs. One of the most fun things was when coach would switch me to the nine slot for good pitchers who thought I would be an easy out.
I batted 9th and played right field on my highschool baseball team and was able to make an all-state team. Led my team in OBP (1/3 of my plate appearances were walks/HBP) and was second in BA and runs. Just had absolutely no power (1 extra base hit in 3 years starting varsity), and wasn’t quick enough to warrant hitting first, so they stuck me at 9 to connect back to the top and it worked like a charm.
As a 9th hole hitter, i actually got the chance to swing, majority of the time. Even when i did have to bunt i was safe. Ended up hitting over .300 to end the season with a homer
I was a 2 hole who was a better leadoff hitter than the actual leadoff. I was eventually moved up to leadoff because the only thing he was better at me hitting wise was that he had more power than me but if I poke one over the infield I can turn a single into a triple by stealing bags. I also couldn't remember signs worth shit so that was another reason I got moved to leadoff because the only sign I had to remember at that point was "just get on base and steal when you can big dawg."
When I wasn’t pitching I was almost always lead off or 2nd. Made a lot of good contact, got on base a lot and stole a ton, but I just had no power. Only hit 4 homers in my playing days, 3 of which were insider parkers lol
I was 5 hole hitter, didn’t have much pop, nor was i the fastest base runner, but I could put barrel on ball and get something out into the outfield. I was a lot better on defense, played second base and center field. I also pitched, was decent at that, but was better at the other two
I'm between 5-8 when batting depends who's on the team. But 5th is so true 😂 my sister could hit home runs so me growing I still wish I could hit them. I'm trying though
I bat 4, played 3 games for my travel squad and hit 2 Homer's and struck 3 times. So relatable!
Literally just did the same thing lol

same!
As a usual 5 hitter I can confirm that every day I just wish I could hit just one home run at least
I just batted 9th in my last game, it’s kinda right: I took 3 pitches to advance 7&8 then delivered a sack bunt up first base for the RBI 😂

Wheres the 12 hole hitter who says "coach said he needs power at the bottom of the lineup"
As a former 2 hitter I can confirm that my sole purpose was to put the ball in play for the lead off 😂
9th but it was because "You turn single hits into doubles" and our #1 had more power to their swing where I was a contact hitter
