Anyone who appreciates Icehouse can party with me anytime. If not, step aside. Their music is timeless and beyond underrated. Some of their live versions from a few years ago rival the originals. That's hard to do.
Iva's father Neville Davies played the title role in this video. Last week he died at age 94. The best way to show you condolences is to watch this video in his honor.
I’ll meet Neville and all of the Icehouse musicians in an eternal and beautiful whirlwind of the 80s when I leave this existance. My condolences and thanks for this amazing piece of art. I hope that Iva and Neville will be reunited in heaven. It will be as beautiful as this song. I love this song so much that I have tears in my eyes each time that I listen to it. It basically describes the word “beautiful” to a blind person in tunes. Icehouse, I love you! ❤️
When I have to depart from this life, I want to exist anew in the 80s eternally, and I would not miss a thing. I miss the good old times, where music and lyrics still meant something, where the word of a man was truthful and honest, where a handshake was a contract and not to be debated, a time where we were free, innocent and full of dreams and big plans... I miss the 80s so much it hurts! Icehouse brings me back there with each and every great song they have created. I love them so much for just that ❤️
“Standing on a ‘limit’ of an ‘endless’ ocean” they sure do mean what they say, tell me in what world is the ocean endless if we are living on a ball that goes all the way around and meets in the same spot. They definitely do mean their words
This song was played at a friend's funeral. Its the anniversary of his death. I miss him. He gave such great advice. I have so much heart ache right now. I wish he was here to tell me what i should do. This song is beautiful
I'm from England and was a teenager in the 80s. Although I may have heard one or two of their songs over the years, I can honestly say that it is only during the last 12 months that I've actually discovered their wonderful music. What a treat it has been.
I spent the 80's in the Marines, El Toro California. I owned a convertible. Most every weekend I would drive Pacific Coast Highway between LA and Laguna Beach. This is the music I would listen to. It's like listening to my reflection...
32nd St. San Diego, Navy for me. And a little time at Long Beach Naval Shipyard. I'd escape to the mountains whenever possible and listen to Icehouse and others. CA was great back then.
I have had the pleasure of being support DJ for them back in 86, at the Dalrymple Hotel in Townsville QLD Australia. Back when Iva Davies still had his long hair... the sound they produced live, was nothing short of mesmerizing. Their performances, perfect!
I will never forget the day Steve Irwin died. A Brisbane radio station chose this song as a tribute. I know it is supposed to be about an artist. But Steve was such a colourful character that it seemed to fit. I still can't hear this song without crying.
Steve died when my daughter was one year old. She started watching and loving his show which was shown in England when she was two (she’s 14 shortly). I’ve always tried to be upfront with her because life is hard and cruel and you have to prepare them for the knocks, but I could never bring myself to tell her that he’d died. Just too upsetting.
This is my dad who can't paint as he has got old and can not hold a brush or pencil. But he try's ... I cry watching him in his frustration. My dad is sad as her tries.... love you dad
I listend to Icehouse when I was a kid, first introduced to them in the US. The songs Crazy and Electric Blue were popular, and that got me interested in the band. I later bought Man of Colours and Great Southern Land. I loved it. It's been 3 decades, and I've circled back, having a bit of nostalgia. So, I bought Man of Colours again, and love it. This song is one of my faves on the album, and is very touching. Icehouse is still as beautiful as it was when I was a kid. Thanks for the memories!
Picture a young boy falling in love to this ablum in the 80''s. A young gay boy in love with colours 🌈 culture, art, music, love and life. Now imagine this very same gay boy grow into a middle aged reculse because he saw the world as it was. He can paint a picture perfect because he can see through the years, tears of a man, understanding words are useless. Yet he is so alone.
I love the use of the oboe in this song. It's a beautiful, tender song and the video is too. Well done. There's no one like Iva Davies. So glad to see these videos.
I was about 25 when this came out. The 80's are a special place in time , that I like most passed thru with music of peace and tranquility. Without knowing was a portal of paradise that in my youth and hurry did not grasp, now Is lost and fading with memory.

I've cried, every time I've heard this song, and not once did I notice that the painter is dancing with the lady at the end. I'm done crying over this song now. :)

Im 44 born in 78 & I remember my mum & dad having party's back in the late 80s I was like 10-11 & always use to grab the icehouse albums out & take em to mum & she'd put them on, think there was even a flowers album she'd put on for me. Iva & Icehouse thanks for the memories. Tracy Chapman's album was a favourite of mine back then too. Still is even now.
