Tesla has actually managed to make dealerships look good. Though to be fair w/the Benz friend and their dealer... Luxury brands treat you right - at least the real ones.
Thank you for this video because no one would believe me when I told them about my two month experience trying to buy a CPO Tesla. I traded my car in with them gave them a check and took a Uber home with nothing but a temp tag and a free key chain for my trouble. No one had any answers as to when I would get my car or where exactly it was located. When the car finally arrived my delivery driver called me and said he was tired of driving my car around and I needed to get it off of his truck!!! Mind you I had no damn idea that the car had even arrived in my state, when the car rolled off the truck it was dirty and only had 39miles of charge on it and I was 35 miles away from a super charging station. This was in September and still today I have not heard from anyone about my concerns about the process. So welcome to the COP CLUB RICH! I am giving you the short story not even touching on my interactions with my sales advisors.
Tesla is behaving like VW Group or Honda at their worst. VW Group will not sell parts for my Quattro, but the parts are still available from them in the EU. Honda changed the block design slightly on the Civic I used to own, a few months into production. And when the car was 7 years old, no more water pumps were available for the early block design. Yes, Honda was basically saying FY to everyone who owned the early block as there were no aftermarket water pumps...
Samcrac LOL SAMCRAC!!!! I see what you’re doing. Making it someone else’s issue. I see. The Lincoln has more issues than meets the eye. If I were you I’d change the entire wiring harness.
Just take it to Car Max and happily accept whatever they offer you. Chalk up the financial loss as a lesson that you should have listened when advised "Do NOT buy a Lemon!"
This sound so much like my experience with Tesla. But, it didn't stop after getting the car. I was one of those people who paid for the car outright using a cashiers check. The westchester service center misplaced the check and never deposited it. This led to a long chain of additional screw ups on Tesla's part. First, they accused me of not paying for the car. I was smart and took pictures of the paperwork plus the check when I picked it up. Plus had the check stub. This caused the pay center to stumble and then back track. Ended with them telling me they would look into it and get back to me. Next I got a letter from my insurance agent telling me that the DMV had no record of my car and if I didn't provide some kind of documentation from the DMV with proof that the car was registered, they would cancel my insurance. I had nothing except the plates on my car and the temp registration which was getting close to expiring. I waited a week, the pay center never got back to me. So I called them up and got a new person to look into it with the added incentive that my temp registration was going to expire. I did get some new information that the sales rep at the service center was looking into it. Few days later go by. No word from Tesla. So I had my lawyer call the pay center. Shockingly things started to happen. First, They had my records at the service center mixed up with another person who picked up the same day. Second, when they found my paperwork, my check was still there. They then cashed it the next day. So next was the issue of the DMV as I was 3 days away from expiring and still had no paperwork. The pay center doesn't do registration. Enter the lawyer again. She managed to get someone at the Customer Service Center to get the NYS DMV to next day registration paperwork (shocking) plus promise some kind of compensation...Which never happened. BTW: I have decided to marry the lawyer.
Thanks, I really enjoyed reading your story of experiences. It's like their all signing that song "money money money, Lots of money, It's a rich mans game" to themselves in their heads instead of focusing on their work.
good call on the marry part ... half the fees in case of divorce :P but yeah ... what word have we come to that you have to mention "lawyer" to get things done properly.
Daaaamn. If the seller screws up so much that you don't get title to the vehicle, then you legally don't own it. I would have told them to return the check and everything you paid, and to take their car back. If they can't sell a car competently, then they are not worth dealing with. It doesn't matter if you love Tesla - they haven't actually sold it. They just let you borrow it for a while. You even paid them by cashier's check - which means they technically have received the payment, they just haven't collected it yet.
Model S owner here... I can confirm Tesla customer service is garbage. Also I can't believe you said everyone you dealt with did a good job. The litteraly ignored you question multiple times and lied/schedule things without letting you know. (this is actually very reflective of my buying/getting things repaired under warranty experience)
This has more to do with the incompetence that the individuals employees you dealt with at Tesla, and not the entire Tesla customer service as a whole. There are bound to be good and bad eggs in a basket, given there are so many employees, but it can't be helped, since you can't expect everyone who works at Tesla to share the same positive work ethics.
@@weakpig So you are saying that it was just unlucky that the SEVERAL people he dealt with all had the same attitudes.? Or that everyone he has dealt with previously was similar? Fanboy alert.
@@weakpig Not true, proper training in customer service and having appropriate procedures in place is definitely Tesla's responsibility. They may know how to make cars, but they have a lot to learn about running a car sales business.
Easy, I just went through this months ago with the audi S8. Basically the dealer buys the car on finance, and the financing institution keeps the title until the dealer pays them. At least thats what happen on expensive used cars here.
@@Nordic_Mechanic Not only for expensive/new cars. German here, bought a 15K VW Phaeton two months ago, the dealer only sent the title a few days after I paid and picked up the car since the insurance needed to send the title to him first. Most fraud-like purchase ever.
Rich, Contact your insurance company and request a refund. They shouldn’t be charging you until your effective date of delivery if and when that date ever occurs. Also for a vehicle to take this long is totally unacceptable given your good faith deposit of $2,500. Hold it take out you flute/recorder. Maybe they see how much you like to rebuild salvaged Teslas that they are building you a special one from salvaged vehicles they are still looking for parts. Better yet maybe they are studying you videos to see if they can do it as well as you. In any case good luck my friend. Hope these Tesla issues are resolved soon.
@@jeffsadowski Yeah it's stupid that this stuff still happens. HTML is HTML. No one should be making any browser specific websites at all. Sadly so many out there are being made chrome specific for some dumb reason. Chrome today is exactly like Internet Explorer 15 years ago. They should work the same on chrome, firefox, edge, hell even internet explorer. Anyone who isn't making universal websites just simply sucks at making them.
Hey Rich, being an insurance agent, let your agent know you haven’t received your car yet and they’ll either credit or refund your payments. So STOP PAYING as you don’t own it yet! As always love your videos!
I suggested he call the MA Insurance Commissioner's Office and have the staff do it for him. I used to live in MA, a lot of processes are screwed up, but paying for insurance for a car you haven't even signed the title on yet? Wrong.
I know when I bought my Tesla they ask for proof of insurance on it. The MA insurance commission is just going to tell you to contact your agent. It’s a simple process when Rich contacts them, he may have to show that he hasn’t taken delivery yet.
When I bought my Tesla, I simply supplied my existing auto insurance for my Prius. What they need to see that the driver has Bodily Injury Liability Coverage and Property Damage Liability Coverage to be legal in most states. Coverage for damage to the car is the owner's concern.
@Tavarish I hate dealers and they hate me. Probably because I can go through their used car lot and point out quick bondo and spray can touch ups, rusty brake lines, odd panel gaps, or I just pull out my bluetooth scan tool and they tell me I'd be better off somewhere else. Private sale, cash only please.
This happened to my husband and I... literally the same exact scenario. Funny thing is - we had to fly to Chicago (from Kansas City) to pick up our used Model S. When we got there, they told us that the car wasn't ready (and wouldn't be until the next Monday). I lost my shit (after the horrible service we received up until that point) - and they actually figured out a way to procure the vehicle for delivery that day. That being said - we're on our second temp tag because they can't seem to find the title. So. That's fun. Love the car though!
Wtf is that garbage... when you take a car in trade don't finalize the deal until you have the title. Sounds like a great way to scam Tesla. According to superspeeders Rob he got burned on a deal because someone sold a car he technically owned. Since the owner bought in good faith they now legally owned it. So as long as you have the title you can sell it. Obviously illegal and Tesla can come after you but the new owner would legally own it. There is a ton of ways you can make this scam work.
Might want to contact MA Attorney General. This might be a violation of some consumer protection laws. I am not a lawyer. You'd be surprised how fast people can get their butts in gear when they get a call from the AG. Tesla will likely not care at all.
Adam Payne with the way certain states and “C O M P L E T E L Y N O T C O M P E T I T O R S” etc have given Tesla trouble previously I’d be very surprised if basically the AGs former college room mate who they play golf every weekend with doesn’t mention this situation.
On the flip side maybe >300 direct real time reports to every agency with a relevant mission set in front of >1000 people somehow can’t get their ass in gear even if Tesla admitted to selling only stolen cars (after providing documentation of that of course) and defrauding people of significantly more money even if it’s costing people hundreds of billions and lives. American legal system at work these days.

I bought a Model S about 5 months ago, and had nearly the exact same experience, nearly word for word with an article I wrote and submitted to a couple of the electric car blogs. I'll bet they kick themselves when they see how many views this generates. And no, don't hold your breath for them to 'make things right'. I had 2 different people swear to make it up to me, and not only did they NOT make it up to me, but they took my trade in, DIDN'T credit me for it on the final sale (cash, because I had external financing through Lightstream), so it didn't reduce my sales tax, and it took nearly 2 months before they finally paid me the couple of thousand dollars I owed. So in addition to paying insurance for a car I didn't actually own, I also made my first $950 payment before I received my car. Still love the car, but it's really clear at this point that they're using all of their resources to get as many new cars sold as possible before the new year, and all of us poor people who are buying pre-owned are way down the totem pole.
Oh, and it's nice that they actually moved the car for you. When I bought back in August, they said it was "As Is, Where Is. If you want a car and it's not in your city, then it's up to you to go get it, or hire a company to pick it up and bring it to you, it's nothing to do with us at all."
@@bored2323 You obviously missed the part where he still loves the car, which is not actually poorly made and in fact has the best crash safety. Poor customer service has no bearing on the product. This is why people assume people like you work for big oil.
"They've all been very friendly and helpful" No. They may have been friendly, but nothing close to helpful or your problem would have been solved. Don't accept mediocrity as acceptable.
Kinda like how you're paying for the idea of owning Windows 10. You think you own a computer, but in reality you're just a Guinea pig for Micro&Soft. There's enough spying and data logging software hardwired in to that "OS" to make a tree letter agency employee wet their panties.
Rich, if your "new" car was never actually titled over to you, and you had no legal possession of it, then you also had/have no "insurable interest" in it, so your insurance company can't legally issue coverage for it (yet) and legally, the state probably requires them to adjust the policy period to match the actual delivery date. Or, to prorate your payments. Similar issues, state and federal, may bind the finance company. Don't be a victim, call your state insurance and finance regulators, Tesla needs a good slap in the face about some business practices.
I agree, the insurance agent/agency should not have allowed for you to be charged yet. The policy should be effective day of delivery! Period, end of story.
I got in a motorcycle accident one day before the automatic renewal. Because of injuries I called my insurance provider 2 months later and told them my bike was totaled. They promptly refunded my payments.
Hey Rich, I've worked for Tesla for around a year and a half in the new cars sales department in Canada. I see this first hand with pre-owned vehicles..... If you notice at 2:56 in your vid, it says 70 point mechanical inspection. They don't provide a 360 point inspection as most other pre-owned vehicles have lol. In other words, if the car's exterior is damaged, they don't give a shit. Let's just say when 9% of staff got terminated; the whole re-marketing department was dissolved. This just shows what happened clearly contributes to your shitty car buying experience. And the truth of the matter...I know people that work in the delivery department and most of them are clueless and careless as to what's going on with customers vehicles. 95% of them do nothing all day except watch youtube videos and watch the TSLA stock fluctuate lol. I've contacted upper management but no one really cares about anything aside from the fact they can tell people they work for Tesla. Good luck with everything.
Rules of buying a used car: 1. Don't buy sight unseen 2. Always test drive 3. Demand demonstration of title prior to negotiation or payment 4. Never a agree to non-refundable payment 5. Clear timeline of delivery and payment withheld until delivery. And you sure as hell don't insure other people's property. Insurance companies don't allow this. Did they misunderstand something? It was an entertaining video. You seem like a smart guy. I can only assume that you broke every rule as a warning to others. Was that your point?
Everyone of your 5 points is dead on. These “what you should not do” videos, should not be made they can confuse may other people out there that do not understand the car buying process. You know the people that believe that the person selling them anything is a good honest person with a soul, just trying to make some money. Hahahahaha
I have a question regarding insuring a car which is not even in your posession. I don't understand the system in the United States. I live in germany and buying a car works the following way: 1. You buy the car. Now it's yours. 2. You search for the best insurance company for this car online. 3. You get an online ID for your insurance to verify you have an insurance. 4. With this ID you can get plates from your cities' "DMV". 5. Pay the DMV, get new papers. Get your plates. Screw them on, drive away with your car.
I was wondering about the insurance as well. Maybe it varies in other states, but I know in CA I can't get insurance for a vehicle that has a title with someone else's name on it...
@@NiclasPotsufusutsu in the UK you can't get insurance on a car from a dealer to start before the day you want to drive it but wait insurance is a licence to get has much money for nothing has they can of course they will take your money
IMO 2 months for a used car that is not being refurbished is pretty bad. Perhaps they were to focused on new deliveries to maximize tax credits? But if so they should have made that clear.
I think it all comes back to how relatively new Tesla is to the game, plus the fact that about 95% of Tesla's/Elon's energy is focused on making them and other hurdles, so the actually buying experience hasn't received the kind of focus as you'd find at any established brand. Then add in that reselling used cars is even further down the list of priorities, you can at least understand, if not sympathize, with the fact that they aren't really that good at it yet. It's going to take a lot more time and experience and energy before their process is as smooth as that of the big boys, but then that's just the trade-off one has to expect at this stage of the game, imo.
@RavenPrecept "Teamed up with"??? Are you serious? Tesla doesn't use the standard dealership model precisely because they have to keep costs down - dealerships add up to 20% to the cost of a vehicle because every dealership has to borrow the money from the bank to pay for all the cars on the lot, plus interest for every day they sit unsold, plus commissions to the salesmen, plus the dealerships own markup, etc. PLUS Tesla's are not like ICE cars and so they do NOT want anyone but their people working on them, so that not in the realm of possibility. What's left is the sales of new vehicles, which Tesla is getting better at, but the used car market is fairly new, and the volume is fairly low, although growing, so it's just a matter of getting the kinks worked out, and as I said, I don't think it's getting the attention it needs considering Tesla had to devote ALL of their attention in the last couple of quarters just to keep the company alive and to meet production deadlines. I'm willing to bet that given another year or so that things will be much smoother, at least I hope so, because I've been thinking about going that route myself rather than paying the premium for a new Model 3, pero vamos a ver ;?)
Tesla did announce recently that they are teaming up with Manheim & Adesa KAR Auction Services for used Teslas. I'm sure other partnerships will pop up soon.
@@TeslaInventory Well car auctions are not dealerships - I can't see them partnering up with any chain of dealers largely because they're usually closely linked to the other big manufacturers. Plus again dealerships tend to have a certain sales model that is designed to squeeze every last dime they can out of their customers, and used car dealers are often the worst. I used to sell aftermarket parts to a lot of them on the main route from Pocatello ID, up to the Tri-Cities in WA, and out of the dozens of dealers I dealt with, only a couple were really decent guys who treated their customers right. Not to say there aren't good ones out there, just not the norm imo.
It's not in most states. Most dealers would have delivered the vehicle and sorted out the title and registration later. I used to be an auto dealer in California. We did it all the time, especially when the vehicle is financed. The banks are used to waiting a month or two for the cleared title. Meanwhile, the customer had been down the road since day one.
Nope, but it is illegal to hold a car that a customer has paid for(Most states give you 30-90 days to fix title issues). I guess that is the reason they didn't finish his paperwork.
Its shocking how bad their customer service is. I assumed any dealership if you're spending that much money with them itd just be common courtesy to do whatever to make sure the customer leaves happy.
You're acting as if Tesla actually cares what their customers think. No, it's such a privilege to buy a used Tesla that you should be honored to be Mr Musk's pool towel boy for a week before they deign to give you a car you've paid for that they don't actually own yet.
Some dealers may do it so you don't walk away but I think they have structured this deal to make it expensive to walk away. I think I heard something about a non refundable deposit you pay even before they show you the car.
@@flamaest I agree. WTF! *NONE* of how Tesla acted would be OK in any country. I think Rich should reply with something like "taking legal action", which will kickstart a process at Tesla's legal team so they don't get sued. Scumbags
Lol.... your so right! BTW how the hell do people let Tesla get away with charging 2,500$ to buy and sell a car which is none refundable. What happens when the wonderful delivery drive shows up 3 days late and then leaves the car in a CVS parking lot.
Just file a CC dispute and move on. Insurance usually has to refund you going back 45 days if you tell them the car was never titled, give them a call, you shouldn't be paying insurance. Edit to add - don't be someone stuff just happens to. They can say it's non refundable as much as they like, that doesn't necessarily mean it is in every situation. You can fight them as much as they can fight you, except the deposit money is not much to them and a lot to you, so you should have more fight in you than they do. Suddenly non refundable doesn't mean quite as much if they are in breach, and if this isn't breach then the whole contract might be void as unconscionable. There are a dozen other possibilities. Don't be a victim, stick it to the man.
@Gabriel G You can dispute anything. That is why lawyers exist. The law on deposits varies greatly between states, and in some states is complex. That they call it an "order payment" won't necessarily help them. Do you also think you can't sue a dump truck operator that has debris fly from its bed and chips your windshield just because they painted on the back of it "not responsible for broken windshields"? I haven't looked at one in a long time to know if it still the case, but for years Carnival cruise lines left unenforceable language on their tickets about your rights to get your money back. The courts had already ruled on it, it was totally unenforceable, but they left it on there because they know most people would assume it is. Don't believe everything a business tells you.
@@JohnAndersonIV correct non refundable means jack shit if they do not fulfil there contract its only if you pull out for no reason that's it job done just what you said
Dispute CC payment if they don't offer a refund. Tesla should know there will be many other electric options from established car companies in 2019 and 2020 so they will not be so independent in the near future.

In order for you to draw that conclusion you'd have to have the customer support feedback from everyone who ever dealt with them, which you don't.
@CRH, remember the customer service guy's response to Rich's lugnut cover inquiry for Dolores? " what do you those for?". Yep, great customer service training.
Good news Rich, Laws vary by state. Insurance commission will not allow carriers to pay for coverage for an item you do not possess. Meaning when you take delivery, send the dated email to your carrier, they should by law retroactively changed the start of coverage date to actual date of delivery, and refund (or extend your payments to new coverage dates) You did not have to buy a new separate insurance policy for your Model X yet. Most insurance companies allow retroactive coverage for a few days within reason. All car dealships, even Tesla expect it. You just have to show you are currently covered with vehicle A, and they will sell you vehicle B. The expectation is within the next business day you declare and add your vehicle B to your existing policy, coverage to start from the day of delivery. Most major carriers will accept this procedurally.

Hey Rich: buying a new car is a total cluster as well. There's a ton of nice people on the phone, but no one has any authority or direction on how to deliver a car. Also, as part of the Q3 2018 rush, my vehicle came with a ton of defects -- which to date after 3 trips to the service center, arent resolved. The service center advisor has now also changed their tune -- he takes an approach of "Oh i own 2 tesla's myself -- whats your problem? You actually wanted a fully painted car? You want perfection? What is it exactly?" (yes, he actually said this) They take the car to these "authorized" body shops, only to have the car delivered back with clear signs of vehicle tailgating, and the bodywork is jammed back onto the car, breaking clips, warping polyurethane (yes... they actually did that) and with a ton of fitment issues. Add insult to injury, the service advisor is like, i dont remember who you are. It is now 93 days out, and my car has been at Tesla for over 30 days. Do you know of anyone who has gone through the lemon process? Want to help me lemon a Tesla? Let me know. Tesla has some total goons working at some of these centers.
fuzziebunnie going through the same exact thing. Got a brand new S 100D with a terrible amount of issues. Car has gone to service center 5 or 6 times now and has been pushed out twice for body work... Still has to go back to service to re-fix just about every issue they “fixed”. And due to poor work because their technicians clearly do not care, even more parts have been damaged from being pulled off and reinstalled improperly and need to be replaced. I have also been told several times the car does not qualify for a buy back.
@@ge7236 being told the car "does not qualify for buyback" by the dealer is meaningless. Which state do you live in? In general lemon law says 3-4 repair attempts for the same issue unresolved. Alternatly if they are resolving issues but it's a endless issues kind of lemon. 30+ days in the shop in a one year period is also a lemon. At that point if you wish to exercise your buyback rights you can contact a lemon law attorney. If it's a recurring issue problem and not a 30+ days problem you may be required to send them a certified letter with a final repair attempt offer where you give them one last chance to fix the problem. Known as the last chance warning. (this is often taken care of by your lawyer) if you've passed the 30 day mark and it's about the frequency of repairs basically and not the inability to do so, then you basically hit 30 days and get it bought back after a short lawsuit and settle.
Do you care to tell us all the details? My instinct is that you are one of those people that is extremely particular about things. Which isnt bad, but maybe a car that cant be repaired isnt for you?
Hey Rich. Had a similar experience with a demo car that I ordered. No pics, even though promised, delivery in a week, took over 45 days. Then the deliver guy called and said I am at the door with the car. Tesla people were very nice but as you say the system is broken/flawed for sure.
But at the end of the day, being nice doesn't matter when you are incompetent. No one there was willing to own the issue or follow up when they said or check to see if they thing they said was going to happen happened when they said. I'd trade "nice" for 'gets the thing done they said they'd get done when they said they would' any day.
Curtis B I agree. It was very frustrating not knowing what was going on. I do cut them some slack for being a new company but at the cost you would think things would be smooth. The good news is that any issue I have had with the car since has been fixed above and beyond. The car had a small water stain on the seat so they agreed to replace the seat. Hopefully in a few years they will get better and competition will force them to do so! Right now it Tesla feels like a successful kickstarter that is changing the world. The after sales team has been great though. Presale, well, we get to watch and experience them on RUclips with Rich.
I had a very similar thing happen to me with my model 3 purchase. My delivery advisor was absolutely terrible with communication and it took them over 3 months just to figure out my paperwork! Also get this I had a trade in which made up around 85% of the cost of the model 3 and they have not picked up the trade in vehicle! Nearly 5 months later and they haven't taken the trade in vehicle even with me asking if they plan to LOL

Love the car but had a better experience buying a $12,000 used Honda Accord. Good Luck!
I told them at the end, I've bought cars, sight unseen, off eBay, from a private party, and had less problems than I had with Tesla who's supposed to be making the car buying process better.
Noorquacker I mean, edge is faster than chrome. But then again so is internet explorer 6. Chrome eats up so much fucking ram. It’s insane, it uses almost half of my 16 gigs of ram.
Lics Norgi are you sure about that? even after they got a huge investment from a Chinese company that just wants your data and became a chromium based browser?
Bought a P85D this route and was never sent photos, took about 5 weeks with 3-4 weeks of radio silence. You need to learn the bend over and thank them because the car is so amazing. I sold it after 5 months and took a bath on it.
I was going to wax lyrical about nobody wanting to buy a house without seeing the actual product but then I remembered that lots of people buy off plan houses and decided to shut up. Sadly not before I had typed this out.

I think what ticks me off the most about all this is the lack of photos he had at first. Why should we trust Lord Elon that the USED car is good to go? No pictures on a new car? Okay fine... but that's absurd that you are coughing up over 2k for a car you've not seen once. I'm also hard pressed to let them off the hook for the missing title.. they should have had all their ducks in a row before listing the vehicle for sale.....
Before i go off in a ramble, i will forwarn. Elon is the modern day Thomas Edison. Actually elon takes to thomas edison and discredits teslas' work. Yet it is hillarious as he has a company that is named after the guy! Thomas edison mainly purchased patents cheap and built the products to be sold making millions. Even took others work to be branded as his own. Basically the same thing being done here in a way. Elon is a fucking crook and so good at it people defend his ass. The pure ignorance of people pisses me off.
The photo thing is hilariously awful. Buy-here-pay-here stores have 30+ photos of every wreck on their lots these days, automatically uploaded to Craigslist. Yet Tesla makes you ask for photos and can't track a VIN through their system? And they list a vehicle before _they_ even own it (have the title in hand)?

"Fast". Firefox may use less memory, but it's still slower than Chrome in most tasks. Also they're usually far behind Chrome on implementing new features. Rich, I just bought a new Model S and took delivery on Nov 16th. It was a showroom model from another state and had 2600 miles on it, but they took $11,900 off so why not. They delivered to the nearest service center (2 hours away) and said I had 72 hours to report any blemishes from delivery and they would fix free of charge. Turns out, the delivery truck driver didn't know how to load the car and scratched all four rims, gouged the side walls, and scratched the entire underside of the front bumper. I sent pics the next morning, then they went radio silent. Numerous calls to them, emailed everyone I had dealt with, no response. It appears that once they got your money, you are dead to them. I resorted to daily hate-mail to their executive branch and finally got a response on Dec 22nd. Still not fixed and I have to report to the gas station daily to fill my tire up with air. The car is amazing though. Their management admitted to me that they are overwhelmed with fulfilling deliveries and are understaffed. If only their quality control people (and I) would've inspected the car before delivery, they could save all this time and work on your Model X.
The problem is they outsource delivery trucks and if they damage the car it's an entire ordeal with the company to get compensation. Elon recently tweeted that they bought a delivery company out and were building their own fleet of trucks. So they're definitely working on it.
I also had a horrible experience buying a used model S from Tesla as well. My sales advisor was useless and like you said no communication whatsoever. There system is not functional. It’s like they don’t even speak to each other. There answer, “oh we are deliver or we are sales or we are service but only at this location”. Man it’s like they don’t even care because it’s used your a peasant to them. Tesla only cares about people buying new one! They still haven’t done anything to compensate me for my horrific experience.
I went there to buy a Model 3 then I saw a used Model S for the same price. Low miles and with dual motor nevertheless the salesman tried to persuade me to buy a new Model 3 for the same price with less features...uh no lol. Then I told them it’s from you guys and you supposedly care about recycling right? It makes sense to offer the used Model S before a base Model 3 if that suits your customer. Nope they even told me they use autopilot on my way to work so I can sleep in the car while it’s driving!
@@zeruulln Idunno what your talking about. I've bought nearly a dozen new vehicles from a dealership over the last 20 years or so, and every single one of them was available to test drive on the lot before i bought it.
@@zeruulln: What the hell are you talking about? I've been buying cars for 40 years, and I bought them all off the lot AFTER I took a test drive. Why post complete nonsense?

In terms of a used car and considering it is New York. The dealership probably took a title with a outside lienholder (not Tesla) so the lien is held until that check clears. Then you have from Bob to Mary to Rick with Tesla financial as the lienholder. So while I am not shocked it took this long, the real problem comes into play with state taxes. The vehicle purchase is for MA. I am clueless why they are attempting to charge NY taxes. Sounds like a rookie dealership crew with Tesla corporate and the DMV having checked out for Christmas. Pretty much a perfect storm. The only other theory is that the vehicle was sold on consignment from the dealership.
This is absolutely disgusting. Tesla sold a car they don't have a title for, and won't be honest about their massive screw up throughout the purchase process? Make noise about this, Tesla should be held accountable. I echo an earlier response, absolutely abysmal. I'm curious how often this happens to those without a voice or audience. Class action?
Class action lawsuit isn't really something you ought to consider unless there seems to be a flagrant disregard to customer's experiences in multiple cases. This looks more like general incompetence on the part of several staff members at Tesla and a failure to perform follow through. There should be some specific employee who has responsibility here with supervisors who can pick up the slack if they fail to meet customer's expectations. It might be wise to contact a local prosecutor or possibly even the state attorney general's office for violating several consumer protection laws since they may have violated several terms of automotive contract law and lemon laws. You can get an opinion from a private attorney, but most people can get help from public prosecutors for situations like this in terms of simply asking if a law has been violated or not. Rich might even be able to get a full refund since the good or service promised was never actually performed or given. I've been able to get a "non refundable deposit" returned simply by invoking such lemon laws in the past myself.
@@GlanderBrondurg I'm definitely no lawyer, but I am curious as to the extent. For a company that does so much right in terms of tech, they sure can do so much wrong in other cases.
Based on some feedback from an Auto industry friend who attempted to purchase a used Tesla. It seems they have listed vehicles online that are at Auto Auction sites (for dealers to purchase cars) all over the US. As with your curbed wheels it seem these vehicles haven't seen much if any reconditioning. Seems like an odd move, but makes sense why they have little to no info on these cars.
They are middle maning these used car sales to give financing. If I had to guess it's incredibly hard to get financing and they don't want the used market value to plummet so they are controlling the market the best They can and providing direct financing. The old dealer and manufacture model is starting to make sense
@@ronald4life1 Agreed. I assume this is an effort to prop up the used car values by funneling customers to the sales. This prevents devaluing the brand. My buddy also mentioned it looked like the were prob pumping up the cost 3-5k, with no recon (reconditioning). This is a pretty crazy margin considering they have no hard cost in the inventory or risk of the depreciation is the vehicles take too long to sell. The logistics of these sales are complicated which is why the customer service is so bad, and no one knows whats going on.
@@Deutscheautoparts I have never seen someone type an abbreviation followed by the full word. Just wanted to let you know that you popped my cherry. Prost!
Hey Rich, I ordered my car out of inventory in September (show floor model in NJ and ordered out of Dedham as well) and didn’t get it until December. I went through an even stranger exchange of emails with various people at Tesla. The only saving grace was that I asked for a loaner car and got a brand new (less than 5 miles on it) P100D. Not sure it would help your situation, but I assume they’d give you a loaner if you asked.
Ryan, you’ve never bought a used car? Tesla took $10k off the price and it had less than 50 miles on it; what would your concerns be; or are you just trolling?
Ryan, so you’re just trolling. Lol. Not sure why else you’d be watching these videos or looking through these comments. But if you’re truly concerned about my wellbeing and not about the significant depreciation involved in purchasing new cars, you’ll be glad to know my car was delivered in great shape, it ended up actually having only 19 miles on it total, and I saved an extra $10k. And I’m insulted you think someone on a test drive would drive the car harder than me.
Rich you are incredibly patient and good humoured. How the hell you stay so calm? I would have thought that Elon knows of you and would be pretty in tune with your sense of humour . in light of all of that I would have thought that Tesla would have been keen on keeping you onside as you have a following and so are influential. Tesla....get your act together.
I agree 100% the system is broken. One miscommunication is forgivable. The amount you have had (I lost count) is just outrageous. They gotta get you your vehicle, man!
Truth be told, if you are able to get any of the money you've shelled out for this mythical Model X back in your pocket, I would back out and buy an I-Pace like you mentioned. The whole thing is just ridiculous, and for all of the great things Tesla is doing, it seems like they're working hard to balance it out with missteps, both large scale and small.
Tesla is working on a flawed marketing plan. They still think they own the market for fully electric, mass produced vehicles. They do not and given another 12-18 months, they'll have to start competing fairly heavily with some long established manufacturers, who have seen Tesla's strong and weak points and will destroy them.

Bruh. Underated.

So what do the rest of us do who don't have personal lawyer/ have never worked with a lawyer before? (Lawyers are expensive)
Great! Send pictures of the lawyer ... Thanks loads!

So sorry to hear that! I hope things get better soon!
That car is history.
It's probably in Brazil by now.

@@lifehackertips Yeah, sure. That's literally in the job description. I totally forgot.
Tim T no, but it is what they do
I bought a Model S about 5 months ago, and had nearly the exact same experience, nearly word for word with an article I wrote and submitted to a couple of the electric car blogs.
Richter12x2 as a seemingly smart person , why would you deal with this for a poorly made product ?

It's lovely that they can do that after you pay the $2500 non-refundable fee for the car you've never seen.

Rules of buying a used car:
1. Don't buy sight unseen
2. Always test drive
3. Demand demonstration of title prior to negotiation or payment
4. Never a agree to non-refundable payment
I live in germany and buying a car works the following way:

13: hey we got the money!
IMO 2 months for a used car that is not being refurbished is pretty bad. Perhaps they were to focused on new deliveries to maximize tax credits? But if so they should have made that clear.
@RavenPrecept They list a VIN with the used cars - I doubt they just pull VINs out of thin air for CPO cars.

Isn't it illegal to sell a car to which you don't have a title? Tesla... tsk tsk tsk
Benoit Tellier exactly!!
Not if you're a dealer who has secured total ownership interest in the car, but you have yet to be furnished with a hard-copy of the title.
I don’t know how they can even advertise a car for sale for which they do not have the title.
Nope, but it is illegal to hold a car that a customer has paid for(Most states give you 30-90 days to fix title issues). I guess that is the reason they didn't finish his paperwork.
Your name is flagged on the system! "Look he's actually buying one from us! We'll teach him a lesson or two!"

Lol.... your so right!
@Gabriel G Did you not read? If Tesla is in breach of contract, "Non-refundable" doesn't mean Jack shit.

Good news Rich,
Laws vary by state. Insurance commission will not allow carriers to pay for coverage for an item you do not possess. Meaning when you take delivery, send the dated email to your carrier, they should by law retroactively changed the start of coverage date to actual date of delivery, and refund (or extend your payments to new coverage dates)
You did not have to buy a new separate insurance policy for your Model X yet.

What is it exactly?" (yes, he actually said this)
They take the car to these "authorized" body shops, only to have the car delivered back with clear signs of vehicle tailgating, and the bodywork is jammed back onto the car, breaking clips, warping polyurethane (yes... they actually did that) and with a ton of fitment issues.
(this is often taken care of by your lawyer)
if you've passed the 30 day mark and it's about the frequency of repairs basically and not the inability to do so, then you basically hit 30 days and get it bought back after a short lawsuit and settle.
Check out Steve Lehto. He has a channel here on RUclips. He specializes in Lemon Laws.

Pantelis Christidis that’s what I thought.
@RavenPrecept Nope, as I recall the VIN was listed on the deposit contract.

I've made so many website forms and having something that only works on Firefox is just stupid... even if other browsers don't support things in the same way I've never found that I just can't do something like this on any modern browser.

Firefox is one of the most compliant browsers in regards to web standards, however it's good practise to make sure your website runs on the most common browsers really.
firefox is great and these types of comment like "3 percent sais this and 12 percent sais that" are worse than begging for likes.

well if you do looks at the top 10 browsers usually firefox is number 1 and even browsers like opera beat safari, safari usually isnt even on the list assuming thats what he is using.
Used car with no actual pics = not interested... also the $2500 non-refundable credit card deposit is hilarious.
Musk says only a PEDO would blaspheme Tesla
Well they cannot send you pics of a car they don't own. And they certainly are fraudsters and did not own the car to sell.
The kind of person who would use firefox probably wouldn't drop $2500 (plus insurance) on a vehicle sight unseen.
I've been using FireFox since the mid 2000's. It's the best browser out there still in 2019. I also have Google Chrome installed, but Firefox has better plugin support and is overall faster than the rest. I'm not sure why Rich is acting like Firefox is some obscure browser... Firefox is probably the #1 or #2 most used browser...

“Who uses FIREFOX?!” 😂🤣 That had me laughing my head off. Dude. I had to wait TWO YEARS for my Model 3. It was worth it to me! Was driving a Leaf around with about a 50 mile range.
I use Firefox! It's fast, stable, and doesn't hog system resources like Chrome does. Plus, I feel more secure using a browser made by a nonprofit rather than a company that makes most of their revenue from selling their users' personal information...
@@Alexandr_Silver Maybe Chrome has gotten better in the last 2 years, but I doubt it. I used Chrome for 7 years, and it just got worse and worse. And with you implying that Firefox works on older PCs, isn't that a good thing? I imagine if I used Chrome on my other computer, an old Macbook, I wouldn't have any RAM left over to do any other work...
"Fast". Firefox may use less memory, but it's still slower than Chrome in most tasks. Also they're usually far behind Chrome on implementing new features. I mean they still haven't added proper support for progressive web apps (which chromium based browsers have had for years), nor made a version of web bluetooth (which chromium browsers have had for over a year).

bobwhite137 yes this has to go viral . Funniest video of 2019 by far.
Understaffed, hmm I wonder if Tesla letting go all those people a while ago was such a great idea...
I'd never have bought a vehicle without seeing it and driving it first.
If I don't see it in person then my money isn't going anywhere.
@@zeruulln Idunno what your talking about. I've bought nearly a dozen new vehicles from a dealership over the last 20 years or so, and every single one of them was available to test drive on the lot before i bought it.

They are selling a car they don't have the title to? Is that even legal? What a joke.
Pretty sure that's illegal in all 50 states. No corner used car dealer could get away with that.
I'm pretty sure being a broker is legal in America, I'm 100% sure it is in most of Europe at least.
@@volundrfrey896 But the cpo's weren't advertised as being brokered. They were advertised as for sale through the website.
@@mcbc5189 So? Is that illegal in America? If so at what point does it have to tell you that?
Right!! The number of people this same thing has probably happened to... so disappointing. Ugh.
@@GlanderBrondurg I'm definitely no lawyer, but I am curious as to the extent. For a company that does so much right in terms of tech, they sure can do so much wrong in other cases.
yeah selling a car with out a title..
@@5wasthenumber What have they "done right"? I am just seeing sheer incompetence at all levels within Tesla
The acting of the Tesla contact had me rolling
Good idea to ask for a loaner.
@Ryan beats a salvage model (most likely flood) like rich would have done
@Ryan Yeah, Engine running hours from running idle, in a electric car... These electric motors don't run at all while the car is idle ;)

Hyperloop will simply be a subway train when they're finished with it.
