Bornean peacock pheasant which is considered extinct. It was rediscovered by my brother Raj A Rulin. He was the first to find this gem after a long time without any records.
Hi, that's really interesting that your brother was involved in re discovering this bird. I traveled to a fairly remote village where a couple of the villagers had seen one a realized what they had. They set up a hide in the jungle and started to feed around it until the bird was regularly visiting the site, and now make some money taking bird watchers to see it, a win win for them and the bird! It was a fair trek up to the hide but well worth it to see and film this unique bird. I was talking to one of the men and they said in two years they hadn't seen a hen pheasant so not sure where this will end. All the best Peter
Amazing video.....such beautiful captures.....can you please share the location where you filmed the Peacock Pheasant.....its such a beautiful bird.....I am travelling to Borneo with my parents later this year 🙂
Hi, the people who organised and arranged for us to visit the Peacock Pheasant site was Sticky Rice Travel, their contact number is; +6088203026 They should be able to organise this for you and anything else you are interested in seeing. All the best, Peter
However, it is unfortunate that the forest area is shrinking due to the expansion of agricultural areas, coal mining and so on. as a result, wildlife habitat is shrinking. small communities compete and focus on economic improvement, the rulers focus on maintaining their position, they do not care about the ecosystem, do not care about environmental damage and other environmental issues. they think the planet will continue to survive without the balance of nature. now we are just waiting for the time when ignorance and carelessness destroy civilization.
Hello Great filming and super quality shots. Also excellent close ups Can you tell me which camera you are using? Is it the sony FDR AX 700? In which format did you shoot HD or 4K? Thank you Guy
Hi Guy, yes it was the Sony FDRAX 400 and was shot in 4K. I find this camera ideal with its low light capabilities and size / weight making it very versatile for this sort of filming. Just back from 3 weeks in Costa Rica, with, I hope, some great footage of hummingbirds. Will take a few weeks to edit though! Regards Peter
@@AWildlifeOdyssey Thank you I am impressed by your close up shots of the birds in particular> The 700 has only a 12 time zoom. Did you made most shots from bird hides and did you use a tripod? Or did you image cropping during editing? The close up shots of the insectos are also very impressie. Congratulation. A last technical question, what frame rate and schutter speed did you use in 4K? Thanks Guy
Guy, nearly all my filming is done using the auto option on the camera. I do use manual in certain situations i.e. filming something in a bush or restricted area when the auto will not necessarily focus on the subject, also in certain light conditions. The recording format is XAVC S 4K 25P 100mps. I use the tripod when ever I can, however in certain cases where it is not possible i.e. in a boat or in the back of a safari truck in Africa I film without the tripod. A few of the birds in Borneo were filmed from a bird hide (Peacock Pheasant, Pitta ect) but in general it is not filmed from a hide. I use Edius and DaVinci for editing, which are both very good programs. All my trips are planned in advance and are 'Taylor Made' which means myself and friend get exclusive use of a truck, boats and a guide that will be with us throughout the trip. This is essential for good unhurried filming. All the best Peter
Hi, I watched your Madagascar video and enjoyed it a lot. I should have gone there a couple of years ago but it was cancelled due to covid, but will get there some when. I noticed you used a drone for some of the shots and I intend to use one on my next trip. Did you carry it in you hand luggage on the plane? All the best. Peter
Hi Peter. I carried batteries and transmitter with my camera in my carry on luggage and the drone in my checked luggage. I don’t think they’re fussy unlike Uganda.
Hi, the camera is a Sony FDR-AX700 camcorder. I find it very versatile and light for the type of filming I do. The low light capability is also excellent. I use Edius and DaVinci editing programmes. All the best Peter
Thank you. Enjoyed the natural sounds without music.

Beautiful, great shots. The use of the hanging white cloth in front of the lamp during the night in order to easily spot the bugs was genius.

Avitourism has back to business after the 2020 pandemic, good to hear that.

Because human is so greedy. We need to preserve the natural wonder life of the forest
