  • Much like a doctor's visit for your own health, there's no better way to understand what's going on inside your engine and transmission than by having a fluid analysis performed. The process is not difficult, but having an expert discuss the results with you can be a game changer for the health and life of your truck and crucial parts like the engine and transmission. We give you the details in this episode of AMSOIL Garage!

Who do you use for this oil analysis and what do they charge? What info do they need from me? Do they need to know my oil used? Do you grab the oil from the beginning, middle or end of the drain process?

Craig, thanks for the good follow up questions. Here are some answers: Oil analysis can be done through AMSOIL. They have a brand called Oil Analyzers that can help. (oaitesting.com)
As far as info they need - typically they need customer info, equipment info, hours/miles on unit, hours/miles on oil, what oil brand you are using, etc.
Knowing the oil used makes flagging and report analysis more useful if they know what brand oil is being tested.
Ideally, the sample is pulled through the dipstick port via a vacuum pump. That ensures the sample is taken from the center of the oil pan. If you do not want to buy that vacuum pump, which AMSOIL offers, they recommend pulling the drain plug, allowing it to drain for 10-15sec and then take the sample. Take it from the middle portion of the drain, not at the beginning or the end. Thanks!
