Hayao Miyazaki has made a lot of great movies, but Spirited Away has got to be his magnum opus. The story, score, and the animation is spectacular. No other anime movie I have ever seen even holds a candle to how awesome it is.
So glad to see Mask of the Phantasm getting the respect it deserves, it's a masterpiece of animation, voice acting and storytelling. And Shirley Walker's score... Incredible.
Batman Mask Of The Phantasm was an outstanding Batman animated movie . The amazing story, the animation and the brilliant voiceacting between Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and The Joker 🃏. RIP Kevin Conroy 😢

I'm a little surprised that The Prince of Egypt didn't make it onto this list. Between the amazing soundtrack, animation, and voice acting, it's a great film. Spirit was also a contender, in my mind, for the animation and soundtrack, but also for the depictions of the harm done by colonial progress into the West and the effects it had not only on the Native people, but the wildlife.
How is Pixar’s “Up” not on this list?! The opening scene of Carl losing Ellie in death was totally unexpected and really sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the movie 👌🏻

Pretty impressive list Watch Mojo! Never thought you'd put Akira, Chicken Run and Pinocchio on the same list but here we are! Personally I would've put Princess Mononoke on the list but this is YOUR list afterall, and it's still a great one!
these are my favorite animated movies : - Batman Mask of the Phantasm (1993) - Shrek 1 , 2 and 4 - Megamind - Ratatouille - Pinocchio of Guillermo del Toro - The Incredibles
You could easily make a second list. Inside Out, Up, Zootopia, Puss in Boots 2, Princess Mononoke, Kung Fu Panda 2, Encanto, Luca, Soul, Sing, Coco, Baymax, Wrecking Ralph, Coraline, Turning Red, Finding Nemo, Moana, Ghost in the Shell, Aladdin, Grave of Fireflies, Cinderella, The Iron Giant, Dumbo, Bambi ... There are so many great animated movies. Such an great form of art. 🥰
I would add Wolf Children, 5 Centimetres Per Second, Patlabor 2, Wings of Honneamise, Angel's Egg, Maquia, Perfect Blue, Paprika, Memories, A Silent Voice, In This Corner of the World, Night on the Galactic Railroad, Redline, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.
Fantasia is one of the scariest animated movies I've ever seen in my life. Still haunts me even as a full grown adult today and it just not one of those animated films that feels made for kids.
I saw it once as a kid. I never want to see it again. I don’t even remember what scared me in the movie. I just get a cold dread when I think of it. Too scary
Yes. 👍That Nightmare on Bald Mountain sequence. 😨I used to turn it off at that scene when I was a little girl. 😎Even now, at 41 that scene is STILL scary.😨
My top 10 10. Toy story 2 9. Fantastic Mr fox. 8. Chicken run My top 7 was hard, love all these movies. 7. Monsters Inc 6. Shrek 2 5. Kung Fu Panda 2 4. Alladin 3. Beauty and the beast 2. Toy story 1. The incredibles
Your Name and A Silent Voice are terrific. I know in the USA when talking about Japanese films people overall only know about Studio Ghibli, but there are some wonders out there.
Top 3 (In my opinion): 1. Toy Story 2. WALL-E 3. The Lion King These are some of my favourite movies of all-time, I can never forget these amazing movies. Toy Story took 1st place for me, I remember watching it so much when I was a kid and as I grew older I was saying their most famous and funniest lines in the movie like "To Infinity and Beyond!" and "BUZZ LOOK AN ALIEN!!!". I also loved the characters and the songs in the movie, they were so iconic. Not to mention, this movie was not only the first movie created by PIXAR, but also the first computer-animated film ever, which is amazing to see how it looked with the design, the motion, and graphics, it was beautiful. WALL-E was another great movie because it introduced a robot as a main character and what we saw on it's adventure on land and in space. It was set in the far future, which is a pretty cool development in story, and also the music was soothing, it's like a new discovery music. The last spot was between How to Train your Dragon, Shrek and The Lion King, but in the end, it was the lion king that took it because it had interesting characters, story, and design, but what really sealed the deal was it had the best movie songs you have ever heard including, "Circle of Life", "Hakuna Matata" and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight". If these animated movies didn't exist in the first place, we wouldn't be living in any fantasies like this.
They forgot to mention the most important part about Toy Story though and that was it was the first full length Computer-Animated film. The movie was groundbreaking for how animated movies could be produced and Toy Story is basically the foundation for ALL digitally animated films up til now.
Animated Movies from Many Different Companies are ALWAYS the Best Throughout the Years! *The Book of Life, Shrek, My Little Pony, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, How to Train Your Dragon, Flushed Away, Chicken Run, Zootopia,* you name it! There are just SO Many!
At least My Neighbor Tottoro and Spirited away are here but I really love Princess Mononoke and would have liked to see it on here as well as the original Ghost in the Shell. It is such an Iconic and influential movie.
Yellow submarine, The Prince of Egypt, Up, and Shrek 2 definitely deserved spots on this list. I also could see Coco, Flee, Loving Vincent, and Iron Giant considered as a maybe.
For my top 20 animation films 20. Finding Dory 19. All Dogs goes to heaven 18. Ratatouille 17. Kung Fu Panda 3 16. Megamind 15. Up 14. Turning Red 13-10 toy story 1-3 9. Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius 8. Kung Fu Panda 7. The Incredibles 6. Shrek 5. Shrek 2 4. Kung Fu Panda and Shrek 2 3. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and Nightmare Before Christmas 2. The Lion King 1. Finding Nemo
My personal favorite animated movie and my favorite movie of all time and what I like to call DreamWorks Magnum Op. and one of the greatest movies of all time is the prince of Egypt that movie is everything to me it has big drama big characters big landscapes and big songs pretty much everything you associate with epic that you see 1 million times in the theater and it never gets old that is Prince of Egypt for me
Lupin iii: castle of cagliostro deserves an honorable mention, at least. It was Miyazaki’s first directorial debut in animating a movie and not only did he delivered, but he changed the formula of the gentleman theif series from that movie onwards; as well as Miyazaki’s incredible line of accomplishments and art soon to come later down the road because of his success on this movie.
Have any of you seen Mary and Max? It's a super underrated claymation film from Australia. It's hilariously dark and tragic. I can't recommend it enough.
how is no one, even in comments mentioning "the land before time", that movie still has the most heart-breaking scenes ever put in a film, animated or otherwise.
Toy Story 2 and 3 should have also been on the list. I think both were better than the first, and I love the first, with the third being the best to me
Zootopia, Ice Age 1-3 & Shrek 1 & 2 are some of my favourite animated movies. I also enjoyed Chicken Run as well. The choice for number 1 is a movie I’ve never heard of
I can't believe that you forgot to add the masterpiece that Watership Down is! It was beautifully done and very disturbing with a brilliant commentary on society!
My fav animated movie of all time, if I had to choose, would probably have to be the wind rises, everything from the score to the visuals is perfect, and the philosophy that the movie portrays is one I relate to, and is presented brilliantly.
Batman Mask of the Phantasm is my favorite animated movie of all time. I loved it ever since I was a kid and now it's one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
I Absolutely Love ALL of THE Best Disney Animated Movies Throughout the Years! Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers, Hercules, Aladdin, Mulan, Tarzan, Leroy and Stitch, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ratatouille, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Raya and the Last Dragon, you name it! 😀😃😄😁
Despite the advancements of CGI, those old claymation, stop-motion and hand-drawn animated movies have stood the times and are far more enjoyable to watch.
There are at least 7 Hayao Miyazaki films that could've easily made this list for me and with Akira (rightfully) on here, Ghost in the Shell would've made it on mine too. The opening alone had me awe struck.
There are so many wonderful movies that belong on this list. Many flew under the box office radar, but they made an impact on the craft, and on audiences: virtually anything made by Miyazaki, not just MNT and SA, but Princess Mononoke, The WInd Rises, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Castle in the Sky; The Box Trolls; Kubo and the Two Strings; Book of Kells; Wolfwalker; Song of the Sea; Isle of Dogs; Flushed Away; Madagascar; The Prince of Egypt; Encanto; Moana, Big Hero 6; Zootopia; Lilo and Stitch; The Emperor's New Groove; Mulan; Hercules; Aladdin; Bambi; Coco; Monsters, Inc.; Up; and, as a bonus that aren't feature-length, but worth binge-watching as if they are, virtually every Pixar short ever made. These and so many others have brought so much joy and wonder into my world, and I am so grateful to the artists who made them.💗💗💗
Thank you for mentioning Cartoon Saloon's three films (Book of Kells, Song of the Sea, and Wolfwalkers)! Those are definitely some underrated films! All three should have been on this list with Wolfwalkers at #2!
@@BeingFrank811 When I saw Book of Kells for the first time, I was just blown away by the style they chose - it was so beautiful and unlike any I'd seen before, the wonderful story (and casting), and I really hoped at the time that they'd get the opportunity to make more films (funding was more than a little shaky at the time). I was so thrilled when their take on the selkie legend (Song of the Sea) appeared a five years later, and then Wolfwalkers six years after that. That may well be their masterwork, but I haven't seen The Breadwinner yet, so I won't pass judgement just yet. Based on their track record, maybe in a year or two or three there will be another fabulous filmbased on Irish folklore. Maybe the Children of Lyr or Oisin and Tír na nÓg!
@@larkmacgregor3143 I still have to watch Book of Kells and Song of the Sea, but from what I know and have seen, I know that I will love them too. But yes, Wolfwalkers was their best so far. The Breadwinner might be too hard for me to watch, much like how Grave of the Fireflies was, so I may skip that one. My Father's Dragon is on Netflix so I will be checking that out soon!
So many great movies left out that deserve top 20 - even top 10. Nausicaa, Transformers, Heavy Metal, Wizards, Fire and Ice and a score of others. These are not all child-friendly, though, so I guess they don't deserve the same admiration. Hoping you make an 'animated movies for adults' top 20!
Wizards, wow, that's an old one. Definitely not for children 😁, but good fun for adults. Not familiar with the other ones. Thanks for mentioning them. Maybe I will check them out someday.

Top 3 (In my opinion):
1. Toy Story
2. WALL-E
3. The Lion King
These are some of my favourite movies of all-time, I can never forget these amazing movies.
My top 3 (no particular order)
Coraline
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
The Incredibles
Nice list btw
@@A-M-r1t Thanks! Those are some great movies!
Akira is the reason why animation isn't just for children. All these animated movies are awesome.
I remember Barry Norman talking about it on his film review show in England. 👍
And i have seen it several times in my phone.
Not only it's a timeless classic,
It's a timeless masterpiece.
P.S:Love Kaneda's motorcycle btw.
They forgot to mention the most important part about Toy Story though and that was it was the first full length Computer-Animated film.
The movie was groundbreaking for how animated movies could be produced and Toy Story is basically the foundation for ALL digitally animated films up til now.
I would also put Grave Of The Fireflies in the list too, but I guess if it's a list for family oriented animated films, it wouldn't be a good pick
Akira is R rated, and it is here.

As animated movie fans, we thank you, WatchMojo. 😊

I can't believe that you forgot to add the masterpiece that Watership Down is! It was beautifully done and very disturbing with a brilliant commentary on society!
Really shocked, no Nemo, no Kung Fu Panda, no prince of Egypt, no iron giant and no soul or inside out.

These and so many others have brought so much joy and wonder into my world, and I am so grateful to the artists who made them.💗💗💗
Agree, anything made by Miyazaki. What a genius he is. Some titles on your list I haven't seen. Will have to check them out.
Yea also kung fu panda
So many great movies left out that deserve top 20 - even top 10. Nausicaa, Transformers, Heavy Metal, Wizards, Fire and Ice and a score of others. These are not all child-friendly, though, so I guess they don't deserve the same admiration. Hoping you make an 'animated movies for adults' top 20!
