The fact that this runs on the GZDOOM engine, with all this interactive/ destructive environment and particle effects, is mindblowing.
Try Total Chaos on GZDoom.
Selaco has been the shooter I've been waiting for forever. The clever enemies, the invasion tiers, the endlessly interactive and destructible environments, the environmental storytelling. Near perfect game, only wish there were a few more enemies, and some more plot and characters in the story.
Large agree!
Hopefully they add more of what you mentioned after some time. Super fun game, I’m enjoying the heck out of it.
I’m old enough to still remember (kind of) the dos prompts to launch doom. That this runs on a version of that is absolutely fucking insane
The crazy thing is if you play this than any other gzdoom mod is how well close the ai/enemy placements were made to be fear like. These guys dont feel like imps or revenants at all
As another commenter said, this is very similar to FEAR (and goddamn did I have fun doing melee-only matches online in that game). I'll have to keep my eye on this.
This is even more my jam than all the boomer shooter games I think are my jam.
Tge combat of Selaco really brings me back memories of FEAR here. It definitely has that gameplay feel to it.
"While some claim that the basic shape of the Sulaco was based on a submarine, the design has most often been described as a 'gun in space' due to the elongated form resembling the Pulse Rifles used in the movie - with Syd Mead agreeing that (in addition to Cameron's preferences) this was one of the reasons for the switch from the spherical form."
I do appreciate the amount of work that has been put in to this game since the demo release
So, to answer Matt's question: Selaco is the name of a city on Mars, and also Earth got wrecked. And those are the only two pieces of story that are in this build of the game, at least as far as I can tell. Which is a little off-putting, because the game's Steam page reads, "Selaco is a brand new original shooter running on GZDoom, featuring thrilling action set pieces, destructibility, smart enemies and _a fleshed out story_ taking place within an immersive game world." So, I wonder if the Early Access version is lacking story that is going to be added to the full release? I know they hired a voice actress for main character Dawn, so maybe there will be parts where she talks in the final build.
At 5:49 I busted out a mighty chuckle
I've seen what GZDoom is capable of; I'm not sure you can say it's just the Doom engine anymore with the amount of things added to it.
Selaco's been on my radar for some time, nice that you do a vid on it.
Currently, I'm enjoying Wizardum - nice little FPS.
Remember Citadel 🤘
Rip and tear until it is done.
I think the devs and underselling their own product on their Steam page, I get under promising and over delivering is a good move but this game is far more complete than their description on Steam indicates.
It's more like a classic shareware first episode...except you're paying for it.
@universalperson it's at least 10x the length of a shareware episode lmao
@@WesleyDW93 that too
Not the hidden goon cave!
The DNF that they denied us
Ehhh, this really doesn't have a DN feel at all, it's very much more FEAR inspired. I'd say the DNF from 2001 that's completely playable, is in fact, the one they denied us.
Yes!
I watched Civvie 11 do a review about this and he enjoyed how the atmosphere of the game feels like a doom/duke Nukem/F.3.A.R. Had a baby and this is the result of it.
Even Doom 3 VR shotgun is better than Doom 3 shotgun.
I love seeing the way the shots rip through the gas/smoke
Wat system is it for?
IBM or compatible PC with 386 or better processor and 4MB of RAM.
This looks great but not the greatest fan of the cover and main menu art personally
