    Very happy to see you make this video about Flieger’s. You described very well the history and design past and present. Being an owner of mani iwc’s, I give a big thumbs up! Cheers, and please keep up the great work! (Suggestion for next video: panerai!)

      Thank you, Joel! If my video has managed to pass by an IWC owner, then I feel like it has been a success! And World War two Panerai's are a must! The subject has already been added to the list ;) Again, thanks so much for the appreciation, man. All of this support really means a lot.

    I think the best way we can conceptualize the WWII Flieger is that it’s a cockpit instrument the pilot wears. An absolutely superb video, IDGuy. Since we are on the topic of Second World War timepieces, would you consider discussing the history of Panerai watches and their legacy into the modern era?

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 лет назад

      The ingenuity that went into such basic things was astounding during the time. Oh, and World War Two Panerai's are definitely on the cards! I'm going to be busy with these requests until the middle of the year at this rate (the topic of Panerai was in the back of my mind as this one was coming to an end) Thank you for the comment and appreciation, man! It really means a lot.

    Great review . I’ve recently acquired an IWC Pilot Mark XVII and love it 👌 Looking to add a 5002 or 5004 next year love the history. My dad of 98 was a front gunner and navigator in Wellingtons in WWII so the watch has even more sentimental elements for me . Keep the great reviews coming

    I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and have been really enjoying your unique designer perspective - very cool, keep up the good work! Back to the subject of Fliegers, years ago I saw a Hamilton Khaki and bought it immediately because of its black-face and clear numerals. But IWC is in a whole different league, as I realized when I saw my work colleague's Big Pilot le Petit Prince - that blue dial is gorgeous. The 5002 is a very nice choice as well. Would love to see a review of the Glashutte Original PanoMatic Lunar if you have the time and interest!

    That was a very interesting video. I am sure a lot of research went into it. I love the history behind watches. I am not sure if IWC made watches during WWII, it was a long war and airplanes advanced a lot in technology. From the single propeller to large bombers. There are a number of watch companies making the homages to the Flieger watches. I did not know about the large crown, the reason behind it, I knew they wore the watches over the clothing and large numbers to see easily so they could concentrate on flying and attacking. My Grandfather was in WWII, I am sad I did not really know him. I was only 6 years old when he passed. I have wondered what kind of watches he had. He was born in 1907.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  5 лет назад

      Would you believe that my grandfather was born in 1910 and died in his 90's (and I'm in my mid twenties). I just can't imagine the world they must have seen. Thank you for the excellent comments as always, Scott. I have to get around to replying to everything on the other video's over the next few days hahaha!

    I have the 5002, but with the 5004 movement called the Transitional”. I got the best of both worlds with the original dial and the 51110 movement. There’s only 100 + Big Pilot Transitional watches made and I found mine in Spain. It’s advertised as a 5004 due to the movement, but the face is that of a 5002. I will own this watch for my life time.

    ID Guy, one aspect of IWC's Pilot line in particular that has always gone unanswered for me, is why are only the 12, 3, 6 and 9 indices applied with Lume in addition to the minute and hour hands as opposed to all the indices and numerals? Is there some historic reference I'm missing or is this purely IWC attempting to be unique for a modern era of fashion?
    Otherwise, I loved your video, this was highly informative. I own the Latest Le Petit Prince Big Pilot that recently incorporated a double barrel Pellaton winding system (as opposed to the single barrel in previous models), which I hope will provide a better distribution of power without compromising accuracy over time as it dissipates.
