Place looks so peaceful. I love the 80's especially middle 80's. Skateboards, BMX, punk rock, slasher movies and malls like this was my ingredients. Thanks for sharing!
I grew up, and still live, here. This Malls was where my weekends were spent in the 90s and early 2000s. Always loved this mall and its made me sad to see it decline slowly. Glad to se it getting love!
As a guy who went through his 20's in the 1980's Los Angeles, I HAVE fallen in love with this mall! It's nothing like we have here in San Diego, where I've made my home for the last 30 years, and we just lost our last Sears. Dooms, you're AWESOME at this dead mall stuff! Keep 'em coming, my unseen friend.
I live about 15 minutes from the Middlesboro Mall. Throughout the 90s and early 00s, it was wall-to-wall busy and full of life. After Kmart, it was a steady procession of loss - Foot Locker, KB Toys, FYE, Bookland, Maurice's, Sears, and many many more. Last year, the closing of JC Penney was a big setback but definitely something that many shoppers saw coming. However, the loss of the AMC theater has created such a huge void in the surrounding community. Citizens from several counties made the trip to the Mall for affordable, convenient film-going but the COVID shutdown dealt such a huge blow to the already aged theater. I hope that the current owners find a way to attract a new theater to the mall and breathe new life overall into the area. Population decline and online shopping hurt this mall severely but it would be fantastic to see this local institution revitalized.
A baby chain called Apple Cinemas has been buying up a few large theaters here in the Northeast that shut down during the Pandemic. They seem to be doing well, and if they ever expand into into that part of the country this would likely be a prime candidate!
Good news, mall-goers! After it seemed that the closure of the AMC Theater would deal a major blow to the mall and the area, it was recently announced that Golden Ticket Cinemas will be re-opening the theater on July 1 with upgrading seating, sound, and dining options! A great and unexpected development!
Thanks for the stroll through Middlesbrough Mall! I really enjoyed seeing it again thanks to you...as well as seeing the malls in Knoxville, TN to. Now if you could only bring back Blockbuster Video.....lol 🤷🏻♀️
Retro retro retro alert ! Wow... this place hasn’t been touched ... do they realise it’s 2021 outside those walls ... appropriate for a small town, but not enough retail space to act as a big draw ... this type of mall will struggle to replace the anchor spots and will need to be re purposed... I always look at these places and try and decide how long I would spend there shopping ..which stores would attract me and the food offer .. sadly, this one doesn’t seem to be offering anything to grab me... I too love these small malls and the lovely character they have ..so much nicer than the bland offerings of today ...another great video !
Man. Not even unchanged(ish) from the 80's, but it's absolutely pristine condition. No trash laying around, only minor charring/dust on ceiling tiles, everything's looking clean and fresh and great.
This along with Fort Henry Mall in Tennessee was the malls I went to when a kid, there's also a tiny completely dead mall in Harlan Kentucky you were very close to when making this. I'm glad someone finally made it to Middlesboro mall
I graduated from Tabb High School in 1981. Go Tigers! This cool 1980s mall is practically magical to me, so I may have to road trip one day from York County, Virginia.
This is an utterly gorgeous mall. The dark tile floors and brick remind me a lot of the Fox Run Mall in Newington NH, before it got blandified by Simons in the 2000s.
I'm a Middlesboro local, you should've done a video on this mall back in the late 2000's. It was the local hangout spot for us teenagers and packed every weekend!
I grew up in Middlesboro and living here again after being gone for college. It wasn't that long ago that the mall would be packed on the weekend. I appreciate the video, it'll be a reference for someone eventually.
The only major renovation that I know of as far as construction since the mall was opened was when k-mart expanded in the early 90’s to increase the square footage of the store I’ve heard that the mall not fixing the leaking roof was one of the reasons k-mart left the high rent and then not doing anything about the roof, the expansion roof was newer so it was still good but the original section they had to cover stuff with plastic every time it rained
@@zacharyausmus1202 They did beat the Great American Cookie company all to pieces, beause this place had decorated brownies and the cookies there was always a UT and UK for sale. I remember years ago I'd make trips there and order myself one of the large 18" cookie cakes even when it wasn't my birthday because I loved them that much. It's so sad to see it go, but I imagine the lady that owned and ran it was wanting to retire. I was just in Middlesboro Mall last night, and a few more things have closed up since even this video was made. Long gone are the days when it had a Foot Locker, Disk Jockey (later Fye), KB toys, Bookland, Cato, Fashion Bug and Hallmark, I can remember most of the stores that were there and this store was the first place I ever saw a Dollar Tree back when it was a tiny store and it's colors were Black, Green and Purple in the very early 1990s. The cookie store will live on in my memories and I can still taste them, so I see why people drove up from even Georgia at the end to experience it.
Idk if you know it or not but Middlesbrough has 2 malls one is the Middlesbrough mall the other one is a unique shopping center and mall just a couple miles south of the Middlesbrough mall on the same road
I first went to that mall back in 1984. I had no idea back then, that it had recently opened. Also, can someone tell me how much movie tickets are at the theater. Back then it was 2 dollars.... I do miss K-Mart in my teens....
For these malls you really love, have you ever gone to management to tell them that you actually *like* the mall's vintage architecture, to discourage them from ever doing "renovations"?
I also love the vintage aesthetic but just not sure about the 50 shades of brown floor. I do get that it is of its time and is in incredible condition for its age. Many would disagree but just not keen. Love the mall otherwise
Back in the early 2000s KMart made some mistakes, this KMart was always packed, it always had customers in the 2000-02 time because people would always be in there shopping. I think KMart just shut this place down thinking it was too small of a market and by shutting down a lot of these stores actually eliminated stores that brought them a profit. I know plenty of people that would avoid the Walmart located right next to this mall like the plague and buy everything from Kmart. Kmart made a lot of mistakes and it was right around the time they joined Sears ugh
Love and miss the 80's, but with the brown everywhere accompanied by no natural light, I found this mall to be boring and depressing. Goodbye Middlesboro Mall.
@@WhittyPics According to the Retaildive website, they said Belk came right out of it day later with some new loans, and restructuring. So I guess we will have to see where it goes.

I lived pretty close to this mall in the 80s. It was the only game in town and always busy. There's (or was) not much else around for many miles
Oh really? I've lived 30 minutes away from it all my life, its gotten bad after covid, everything in the mall is almost shut doen, going back tomorrow

Such a relaxing fountain! Loved the look and the older style bath and body works. Thanks for covering this!

Beautiful mall, like the fountains and plants with the earth tones.

Awesome looking mall, the inside very much reminds me of the old Regency Mall in Augusta, GA which was doomed from the day it opened.
This place is a true classic 80's mall. They better not change this place!
Great video, I love how you record all your videos in 1080/60 👍
Love your videos and the vibe!
I lived not far from here in the 80s. It was always a happening place, as there was little else for miles in either direction
That floor is beautiful!
Oh no is the decorated cookie place right off the water fountain closed and gone? That place from childhood even to adulthood was a highlight for me.
It was literally the last one of that franchise. People were driving from Georgia to get cookies once last time 😂
