Teased by the Signals! (Beach Metal Detecting)

- Today was my last chance for some beach metal detecting before embarking on a very special detecting road trip! It was a fun afternoon finding coins and random historic pieces at the water's edge.
(A little context for the video's title: In Australia, small but high conductive signals can mean that we're about to dig a beautiful old pre-decimal coin, you won't believe how many times I was fooled on this day!) 😆

G'day Mish! Ive been out detecting in the middle of the Golden Triangle this weekend, and met this young lady out detecting, and I swear she was a dead ringer for you, though I think this lady was taller, and there was'nt a beach for many many miles. Actually there were a few people that seemed familiar, I think I stumbled on to a lookalike convention. She was very kind to me, and knocked of some fellows camp chair for me to sit on!... Ok ! enough of that! Thank you Mish for the welcome, and for all the efforts that you put in, in helping to make it a great weekend for all that were there, I felt right at home!...and I enjoyed the whole experience, Hope you and everyone else got home safely! Cheers and thanks!
It was SUCH a pleasure to finally put a face to the name, Wayne! I'm thrilled you managed to make the trek over for the weekend, thanks for all the conversation and laughs. I also want to let you know that I was there when the recipient of your random act of generosity received his gift; I will never ever forget the look of heartfelt joy on that gentleman's face. Not a dry eye in the campsite at that moment! You are such a kind soul and we are all super grateful for you. Cheers mate.
@@DirtFishMish G'day Mish, good to know you got home safe and sound, I dont know about you, but the hottest part of the weekend was driving back through Melbourne, As for the gift, Prior to arriving at the camp I had intended on trading it for some accessories for my CTX at the Donnelly Miners Den, that I found no longer existed there, Ive yet to thank Andrew for straightening me out on that possibility, So it left me with the question of what to do with it, I didnt want to put it back in the cupboard at home and leave it there unused, Now its in the hands of someone who will get it out doing the job it was made for, and I hope that person gets many years of enjoyment from its use, and im happy that it is, Im glad I wasn't there, I would have shrunk into my shoes! God I hope it still works, I didnt think to test it beforehand, Oh bugger, now im worried!... Oh! And the pleasure was all mine in meeting you! Im still high from the weekend and all the wonderful people I met there! The memory will remain a highlight in my life! Thanks Mish and Cheers!
Great Hunt! Coffee Money 😃
SS 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻 Laughs!! 😂😂
Look forward to seeing you join CBK 😃
I believe that toy car is from Tootsie Toy Cars in the 1930s. I found some very similar cars and sent you the photos for comparison. The markings were exact in some areas of the body and a little bit different in the front, but that could simply be a slight modification in casting molds from year to year.
Coincidentally, you also found a shell casing from your estimate to be 1936 in the same area AND that bottle cap from Holdenson and Nielsen could also be from the 1930s since that company operated in your area during that time line. They started the milk skimming business in 1886 and worked in that area until the 1940s from what I could find about them. A King George V Florin from 1934 would have been the perfect finish to the '30s themed finds for the day.
12:52 to 13:16 Once again, your music choice and photo editing is beautifully done. So relaxing.
As always, Mish, looking forward to your next adventure! Later, friend!
Mish. You're my favorite detectorist. You;r voice iis very soothing . Thanks for sharing.
Mish always chills me out .
Aww, thank you both! :)
H Mish, you found enough money for a coffee. Where I stop for coffee it's only$2.50 for a medium size. I rarely find that much. Usually just trash. Take care, John
Hello my friends, beautiful video and land 👍🙋♂️👏🇨🇱😀👌
Another fun video! Thank God for coffee money!
HI Mish, I've got dirty nails. well, I have found a lot of dirty nails today. I went detecting up in the mountain above the cabin here in western North Carolina, U.S.A.. I found: a broken iron kettle, two feet beneath the old oxen road that crosses the mountain pass in the woods. I found: an ox shoe, which looks like half a horse shoe. Ox have a two part hoof and must have two half shoes on each hoof. A badly corroded trime. trimes were a three cent coin back in the 1800's. Often a trime will have a hole punched through it with a nail. This allowed a trime to be pinned to the shirt of a dead soldier on the battlefield after the battle, along with a note with his name and family address. The trime was for postage. I found a blade from a sythe. Thats the big old blade used to cut hay. I found a pocket knife with a bone handle and the blade was extended. I wonder what the story was, perhaps the owner was cutting an apple when a bear got him. the handle of the knife is damaged. I found the head of an old blacksmith made hoe. I found a flat fired musket ball. I ahve to say, when I found the old iron kettle deep under the ox road, I was hoping it was full of coins. nope, but a cool find just the same. I found one button. I used my old Garrett ATPro and I must say, I really enjoy that detector. It speaks to my brain in tones I understand. Oh, and up on a cleft in the granite outcropping, I found an iron feather and wedge. still in the hole the stone cutter made as he drove the wedges in to split the granite for foundation stones or perhaps gristmill stones. I had a great day. I wanted to share some of the details with you and whomever may also read this. Smiling, George.
That was one hell of a good day.
@@roelf8653 I also baked four loaves of potato bread this morning before heading out. : ) yes, a good day indeed.
Variety is always good, and you certainly had it there George! I've only just gotten back 24hrs ago from a huge weekend full of socialising with fellow detectorists and creators, plus a handful of lovely viewers as well. Exhausted but very happy. :)
...and now I want some potato bread! hehe, cheers mate.
@@DirtFishMish when I make potato bread, I start off with three medium baked potatoes. I mix salt into water to make a brine, I put the potatoes into the blender with the brine. when this is smoothish, I use this slurry to mix with the flour and yeast. I let the dough rise overnight punching it down in the middle of the night at least once. yeast love potatoes. the air smells like vodka in the morning as the yeast have been enjoying the potatoes. I will knead the dough, divide it into four then shape round loaves. I heat the oven to 450 F. I use Iron pots to bake in, I place the pots in the oven and when they are heated ( with lids on) I put a little corn meal in the bottom of the pot, score the top of a loaf with a knife a few times for expansion, carefully place the loaf into the iron pot, put the lid on, set it in the oven and bake until it looks done and has a temperature of 200F in the center. I poke it with a thermometer. Potato bread stays moist for days after being sliced. Enjoy. George.
Nice hunt! We had no wind noise for the most part. So you worried for nothing!
Nice adventure Mish. Thanks again for taking us along. Nice to see warm weather. Sound quality was real good. Didn’t hear any wind noise. Cheers!!
Thank you
Good to see you Mish 🤗thanks for including us 😊
Like 301 Hi Mish, great coins hunt as always, cool old car toy💪😁 un gran saluto dall'Italia 🇮🇹😁
Howdy Mish, You have to dig those iffy signals. You can make an educated guess on what it is but you never know until you dig it up. I mean an 8 or 9 signal could be a gold chain but it's more likely a foil candy bar wrapper. You just have to dig them all or you'll miss the good stuff. Enjoyed relaxing with a beer while watching the video on my day off. Hope you had a good time with Andrew, Luke and Wayne this weekend. Take care. Your buddy, Roelf
Thanks Roelf! We all had a blast this weekend, though the weather was frightfully hot for a change (we've had an awful cold/wet season), most of us struggled with the sudden onset of heat but still had plenty of fun. Wayne is a beautiful soul and I am honoured to have him as part of the Coffee Crew. Hope you've had a lovely weekend too mate, cheers.
It’s not a mish vid without a sinker. Thanks for another good vid. Take care phil
We’ve all done the car park thing. Ever left the MGC at night with 100,000 people. Cars are impossible to find 😂😂😂😂. The good thing about find all those 1&2cent pieces is they are problems worth a lot more in copper value now days. Thanks for sharing, safe travels
Oh noooo, I wouldn't want to lose mine at the MCG, that sounds like a nightmare! A shopping centre is bad enough, lol. Cheers Jeff.
It’s great to see Aussie numbers on RUclips. Thanks for the fun video.
No worries at all!
What a hard fought hunt Mish you had to work hard for that coffee hopefully better luck next time 👍👍🍺🍺
Great to see you using the Nox again ❤
ahhhhhh....a sinker.....there, phwew.
The car looks to be about a 32 ford tourer. A bit of teasing by the find god's dont hurt Mish just makes you more determined to get coffee money and if your like me i always have thermos with me stay cool mate
Hello good luck
Sorry it took 2 days to watch this fun video, it’s been busy. Very nice detecting coins are always great find’s. I wish it were more for you like jewelry or old coins. Hopefully it gets better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💗💗💗💗💗
So glad to see a new video
Good hunt Mish. The car I reckon is a Winna. Aussie take off of a tootsie. Go crook at me for dad joke. On reflection. Bloody hell.
Great to catch up again. See you when we do😁😁👍
Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I guess. 😂
Thanks for the car ID, would’ve been a lovely little car, shame the ocean had its way with it for a century.
See you around mate, can’t wait for the next catch up. 😁
Your car looks like an old Hubley cast toy car, from the 1930's so you were spot on with the age. In just couldn't find it. But the axle through the body narrows it down some.Hubley is the name of the toy maker not the car. I think it is some type of Plymouth or the Australian equivalent.
You would have passed by Kyneton on your way to visit the CBK. Great video. Cheers John
I’m so glad you mentioned this, I drove past the turn-off and had quite a hearty chuckle as I did! Must’ve been a sign. 😂
Greetings from the northern hemisphere! As it freezes here, i’m happy to watch your weather get warmer as you take us along.
“…and then there was much further adoing.”😂
Always further ado'ing! haha. The weather is trying it's hardest to warm up, but we've had a shockingly cold and wet season up to this point with only a few hot days! Blistering heat for the past 48hrs, and now we are back to heavy rain. Cheers mate.
Aah those teasing signals, have a lovely road trip and hope you get a chance to do some filming whilst there
I've got 2, possibly three video's worth in the works now mate :) Lots and lots of filming!! Cheers!
I enjoyed your video thank you and good Luck.
Good day on the beach doing the thing you like the best and with good returns. Gotta love the Sito, looking at getting one of those carbon fibre handles, it,s gotta be much lighter than the lump of tree I have on mine.
Cheers
Brad
The carbon handles are fantastic! I need to update the screw on this one to a galv screw, been on the to-do list for longer than I'd care to admit hehe. Hope you're keeping well mate. :)
Hello Mish 🤠👌🌞⛏⚒ Nice vidéo
Bon week-end 🐬🌊
Hi Mish like always great hunt thanks for the video mish cheers.
Greeting from Morocco and Austria.
Always good to go on an adventure with you Mish ! Had my best ever , so far , find at my local beach recently !! Think it was an engagement ring , 18 ct gold with 10 small diamonds !! Its with the police at the moment trying to find the owner ! Would be great to get it back to them !
Oh wow!! Congratulations on the find, Philip - be sure to check any local buy and sell groups on Facebook etc, that's often where I find owners making missing posts! Happy hunting.
@@DirtFishMish I did , had no luck , so Ive handed it into the police !
Thanks Mish!! So sad I can’t be at your trip this weekend but my lurgy that’s knocked me rotten for the last week wouldn’t be appreciated. Hope it’s awesome!! Can’t wait for the vids.
Yay coffee money
Super great to see another video!
Do you know why the GoPro didn't record audio on the last one?
How's the home settling in going?
Take care and God bless, Mish! ❤
Hi Tana, sorry for the slow reply! It was the GoPro camera itself at fault, it turned it's own microphone off (knowing that one was connected) but failed to turn the external microphone on in the process. Seems to be working fine now, but lesson learned, test some footage before detecting for a full day!! Cheers :)
There the season continues. It's a decent winter in Finland. A lot of snow to the south.
Would you believe it is also snowing in my state (in the alpine regions) at the moment? It is two weeks into Summer. We have never experienced anything like this season before. 🙃
@@DirtFishMish Nooo😬
Thanks for the video.
I just found a Bicentennial 1901-1951 Florin coin and a 1990 3rd portrait Queen Elizabeth II New Penny here in Texas. Great videos.
Wow, I wonder how they got there!! Great finds. Congrats :)
@@DirtFishMish will tell the story on my video at a later date, will let you know.
Can you test on à lake with playground
Hope you find your car 🤣 great to see the nox again ive got a 600 , love it 👍👍
Thank you, yes I made it back! LOL. Not the first time I've gotten sidetracked, I do tend to wander a lot when detecting!! Cheers.
Love eyes and ear rings beautiful
You will need the coffee after being in the wind
If your hunting around Melbourne beaches, be careful - high ecoli content in the water. Will cause gastro symptoms and can progress to pneumonia. Might be better to stay in the dry sand
Thanks for the heads up, mate -- thankfully nowhere near the city beaches and I don't believe there's any current warnings here but I'll be on alert, cheers!

Oi 👋
Well hope thing are well ! Find a Rolex Mariner 10ft in the water down about a ft. Look like 1960 in great Condition.
That's quite the find, Henry! Well done. :)
Hey mish hope you are doing well
Hey mate, going alright here, had a massive weekend out in the goldfields for a detecting event. I hope you’re doing okay too ❤️
How do you get both the metal detector and the sand scoop to say upright you dont even hold them? Can you show us your "setup" in the next video perhaps? :) thanks!!
I'm using a chest-mounted GoPro, so I don't have to hold my camera! It makes filming so much easier when at the beach. Cheers :)
Un poco 🤏🤏 di roba trovata meglio di niente bel video e buona fortuna☘️☘️☘️ e natale 😎 in anticipo 🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤💚💚💚💚💚💚
Great audio work!
You’re using the the Nox again. Just pressing you for your thoughts on the new Nox and Manticore?
Thanks mate, lots of tweaking to clean it up this week! I had the pleasure of seeing the Equinox 900 and also the Manticore in the wild last weekend, very impressed with the 'nox improvements I must say. I hope to cover some of my thoughts in the next video, as well as show a few of the changes. And then I'll have to make some decisions on whether to add one or both to the collection.... oh boy. 😂 Cheers!!
It’s a hard call again, seems Minelab want a good detector at every price point?
@@shipoffools2183 exactly. They’re including the 6” coil in the box with the 900 now, which is a very smart move and I’d say influenced by the Nokta Legend pro pack. Manticore looked incredible… keen to trial a unit sometime!
Mish, why are we back to the Nox instead of the Deus 2 ? That was such a big upgrade and I am saddened :)
G'day Vinson! This past week's video would've actually been a Deus 2 vid if my GoPro hadn't malfunctioned! I only have the 9" coil for the D2, so I have come to the realisation that the Nox is better for coverage on the big open beaches. The D2 is still very much preferred for the digs that require more precision, and you'll see it on some upcoming land hunts soon :)
You had a nice hunt on that beach. Good to watch. Pleased you did well. Those cartridges have interesting bottoms. They need to be read. MF I know stands for Melbourne/Foots Cray. Tell me how do you get your cupronickel coins back to their original colour?
Thanks mate. Re: the coins, just a cheapie coin tumbler, but I upgraded to mixed stainless steel media and I also throw in a little burnishing compound which is effectively a powdered soap. An hour usually cleans them enough to be spendable, sometimes an extra run or so is needed if the coins are particularly mucky. :)
👍👋👋
how does the Snake Skinz coil wrap hold up...worth the purchase?
It'll fray a little at each end, but hasn't been getting significantly worse over time. I've had that wrap for many months now. The small cost is worth it to be able to spot your detector in a lineup when detecting with friends :)
@@DirtFishMish Thanks....got blue/black snake for my new Nox 800 with blue/black carbon shaft
What firmware you running ? and do u know if you dont like the new firmware you can go back to stock firmware?
Version 3, by memory? It has been quite some time since I've done a software update on the Equinox. Unsure if you can roll back as it has been months since I've done any of the updates, sorry :)
@@DirtFishMish thanks i think im on the 2nd version did u notice any differences ?
Deus 11 all the way young lady
Great job "trudging along"! 🏖️🧲(((🪙🥫🌊
