      In Norway you need a mountain bike, to use on the road anything less will be ruined very quickly, we probably don't have as good roads as many other countries, many places all over it's like rally because of all the holes shifting from tarmac to gravel many places in all cities, road bikes are only good at brand new tarmac without flaws which is very limited here,,,, also i think road bikes are crazy expensive for very little value,,, also boys in hot pants or whatever it's called looks ridiculous,,, every one here use xc mountain bikes for short comuting,, a couple decades ago or at least the last ten years crazy amounts of bikes and other stuff been stolen, so we can't set our bicycles outside anymore, so some people have road bikes even its not their riding choice just because it's easy to carry and very light and it's less chance of it being stolen because it's harder to sell and not popular among the youth,, I got the cheapest levo fsr and it's been close to getting stolen or tampered with several times even when i was having it in eye sight etc,,, I'm thinking about getting a BMX again just to use in the city because they are crazy cheap compared to all other bikes but it is so hard to bicycle back home from the city which is all uphill,, I'll guess i can only use it one way and take the train back up here again,,, so no ain't getting a road bike just interested in the new brose /specialized motor

      I have a road bike and it hangs in the garage from the wall 24/7 for years now :-) it's a nice bike, a Cannondale, but whenever I think about riding I much rather be on the dirt so an e-bike for the road would be the same problem and furthermore, I recommend you stay the hell off the road so you don't get killed by a car!

    People saying the limit is too low. The motor isnt there to help you go fast on the straights, it's to save your legs on the climbs.

      oh it can dramatically speed up your commute though. I'm in the US and ride an e-road bike that tops out at around 22mph - and my 30min commute pretty much allows me to safely go that speed the entire time, save for red lights.

    I've this bike and living on the Italian alps i can say is... amazing. Engine off is just a standard bike (little heavy), engine on you can pedal up to most famous pass if you are just standard trained. Is not a full power ebike that push you up... is a real road bike with little assistance that gives you the power to climb pass that only a strong biker can reach. Is great also for touring and bikepacking because battery recharge so fast and is a gravel too! The wheels are boost standard so my shop mounted a set of roval control from epic specy and it rides everywhere!

    Just purchased a Specialized S Works Stumpjumper Levo. All I can say is WOW!. I had the most enjoyable ride in the AZ mts where i live this past Sunday. I was able to ride twice as long even in the heat of the summer and my average heart rate was 130 and typically on my previous MB, I averaged about 135. I'm 61 years old and typically average around 3,000 miles per year. Now I'm going to purchase the new 2020 SW Turbo Levo for my road cycle.

    This bike and the Fazua system really make sense of you love in the hills/mountains like I do. All we do here is climbing and that’s where it makes a massive difference. Pedalling on the flat at 30km/h is easier on a regular road bike but if you’re in a group you can just sit in behind and cruise.

    I have a Specialized Turbo Creo SL Comp Carbon...with GRX the Gravel version...what a bike! With gravel tires and XTR pedals is only 12,7 kg...not bad for an Ebike
    Love the 3 modes which you can customize with the app
    The Bike is very agile and fast
    From 25kmh when the motor desengage you don’t need it any more...you can cruise at 30/35kmh easy...I’m a MTB guy so is a very fast Bike for me
    Really love it!

    This bike is so much better in the US because the motor doesn't cut out until much fast speed, over 25mph.
    I bought the turbo creo sl e5 comp which has an aluminum frame. 3lbs more than the carbon model but because it has a motor you can't feel the difference. For thousands less I have a bike that me being 70 year old I can still ride with the young guys!

    Looks cool but 15 mph is too slow for a road race bike I generally average 17-21 mph average speed on my road rides depending on how hilly the route is, It could be handy for the less fit rider but for most road riders it would not be worth the weight penalty

      @marcelfacd 5 лет назад +4

      Right. No use for such a bike unless you live in mountainous area IMHO. As Rob says ' no different from a regular bike over 15mph' ...tend to disagree with that. Over 15mph (within 10 seconds for any regular road bike user) you just end up with a road bike double the weight and 4x the price of a regular road bike.

    • @marcelfacd
      @marcelfacd 5 лет назад

      AG Coarseman AG Coarseman 6,4 kg kilo to be precise...in size Large 58cm (actually I have it for sale now so if you are interested) so sorry, I should have said ‘more than twice the weight’ but then again, im talking in general and around 7 kg is quite a normal weight for modern bikes. If you want to argue about a few 100 grams, thats fine.. And looking at the price of the cheapest Creo (8000!?) I can easily build a 6,5 kg bike and have money left for a few holidays. But hey....if its important for you to reach 25km/h as quick as possible just go ahead!

    That thing looks fantastic, I'd buy it immediately if I had the money :) I need the road/gravel bike anyway, especially in colder part of the year when I'm doing mostly asphalt routes in city surroundings just to maintain form. Since forever I've been using mtb for everything, even long road trips, I really need at least gravel bike in not too distant future. So yeah, I don't mind that you cover e road bikes too, that's all interesting

  • @biketothetop
    @biketothetop 5 лет назад

    12:26 Do we think we will see a smaller size motor in the mountain bikes? Of course as efficiency of components goes up, the size can be reduced, but I wouldn't get so excited right now because mountain bikes are heavier and they have a tougher duty cycle, therefore it's not so likely that they'll be reduced dramatically overnight. Simple physics of material stress capacity drives some of the components sizes. Batteries are another big opportunities to reduce weight, but material limitations drive that as well.

    Nice idea, the main reason for having emtbs is to help you climb those hills, so same principles apply to the road, some hills are too steep for some riders, this will help level them out. Is there any scope for an extra, bigger chain ring to help get the speed up on the flat or downhills once you’ve climbed the steeps?

      Here in the USA, I do empathize with you: the Euro 25 km/h limit seems needlessly low.
      I'm currently pedaling just on my own legs, but am shopping e-bikes, and have shifted to looking at what we call Speed pedelecs, or Class 3. It's not that I'm going to go the max speed much (28mph), but even with our 20mph limited bikes (Class 1), you hit that speed-wall and, all of a sudden it's all up to your legs. The assist does not taper off, it abruptly ends.
      I am a human being, not a dog on a choke leash. . . I appreciate a rev limiter on a car, to keep me from trashing the connecting rods. On an understressed bike/motor?
      Not so much.

    Rob only downside is the price, which honestly is ridiculous, even for the SL and Gravel version. Dont forget, that you have to drag around on the flats 5kg+ of extra weight, compared to similar top end road bike.
    Good solution would be, that they would allow 10-15% assistance above 25 km/h to get it to the same plainfield regarding the weight. Doing 40km/h+, believe me, you will feel, dragging that extra weight around. But hey, if I will ever get this, will definitely find a way to derestrict it, like I did with LEvo....
    Other than that, great video as always...... must watch when Berkshire is on. 👍🏼

    I think you should go on a ride with your Roadie m8s but with the assist limit IMO you'll only keep up on steep climbs.
    If you live in a very hilly area then I can see the value with the speed assist limit, ERoad is where I think where the limit is wrong.
    I rarely Ride my Road Bike but when I do the big takeaway is it's extremely fast.
    Just lucky you didn't pass some proper roadies on a big climb wearing trainers, flat plastic pedals and no lycra while chatting into the camera :)
    I noticed you never rode on the hoods but used the drops all the time.. can you not shift gears fine from the hoods?
    Small motors for XC bikes? .. I don't personally ride Ebike for XC just up/Down stuff but my bike is actually capable for XC even with 170mm fork etc due to the assist. IMO just making the motor smaller and lighter may cause issues with weight distribution on EMTBs wrt the batteries?

    Looks cool , specs and range what a great biiike, wait , what is that noise sorry way too loud . Why oh why take away the best feature of previous motors , being near silent. 1960s minis had straight cut gears in the gear box with that usual whine , why do that when every modern manual gearbox in a car is now silent and the solution is known ? Unbelievable.

      It’s not that loud in real life to be honest... GoPro is always amplifying those frequencies 👍

    I don’t know why the gears should be better than the belt. The belt makes the Brose motor so silent and smooth and don’t forget the problems Bosch had with the durability of the plastic gear in the beginning. Let’s see how durable these parts are. I would never buy a car or a E-Bikes which is brand new because there are too many problems coming up the engineers did not think about or where they have been forced to ignore by commercials and marketing people. This is my experience as an engineer myself for 30 years now.

    Other than for climbs its a bit pointless tbh as a roadie spends most of the time above the limit anyway.

    I don't see the point uncomfortable riding position no suspension no grip on the tires slow to brake and limited to 15mph might as well stick to an e mountain bike on the road.
    Oh and the price hahahahahaha no thanks they can poke it up their bum bum.
