So sorry to hear about your dog! It’s losing a family member every-time I lose a dog takes a piece of me with them. Lets hope they are in a better place!
Yep! Oreo is in Heaven playing with Koko the Gorilla that died at age 45. She could sign over 1000 words, the famous comedic actor Robin Williams visited her a few years before he died.
Great job Jason and nice meeting you in person. Definitely Margolis room was the best bang for the buck. In particular at the lowest price point the tiny monitor speakers with the little integrated amp were a real wonder !
You do such a wonderful job at these shows. Your coverage, your style, your dress is unique and you add something special. You stay out of the foolishness that is this industry and other peoples business. Your B-Roll, lighting and sound quality has improved to such a level that you truly deserve to be where you are. This wrap up is outstanding and I’m sorry for your loss.
Thanks..I've got my niche that I'm happy with. Most importantly, I'm happy with the quality of subscribers like you guys who appreciate my style of coverage (and wacky attire) 😁
I probably should have mentioned Danville Signal Processing/Active Crossover with Maggies. Also, Dr. Vinyl wins "Best Music" for his work on horns to start the show 😁
Thanks for your coverage.👍 you have become one of my favorites. Making audio what we all get into it for. Being excited to listen to our favorite cuts at incredible levels for whatever price we can afford. Music can make the day no matter what mood your in. Thanks brother, catch you on the B side!😁
So sorry to hear about the passing of your baby Oreo! I lost my dog in March 2019. Ginger she was a wonderful sweet dog a Corgi/Jack Russell that I had for 15 out of 17 years and it was the worst month of my entire life! Now I have Boston she’s a rescue Dog black and white lab/Blue Healer. That’s her in my picture. You should definitely get another doggy ! They’re wonderful companions!
I put every room I go into on the channel. At big shows, I can't go into every room because there are too many. Occasionally, I'll upload a video and RUclips will block it because of the song playing.
Thank you so much for all the hard work and cost outlay to do the coverage. I asked in your GR NX video how far apart you have them and distance from the plane of the speakers. Thought to ask in in case you would miss it. Thanks
Thanks! My channel intro video may give you a better indication of distance and other things related to that. The exact distance I don't know off hand, but it's always going to be a factor of listening distance, side-wall and aesthetics too.
Agree Jason about the Kroma speakers. Artur Rubenstein and Steinway piano were in the room, The Ghost of Johnny Cash was in the room, Diana Krall was in the room, Enough said??!! Hearing them in person was just incredible. Too bad they are the price of some people's homes. By the way, the midrange drivers are Purifi aluminum cone units that have a price of $430 each, and the total price was $242,000. Great to see you and Doug and your outfits were killer !!!....Prof. Jim
I can relate to what you said about Fremer and ass kissing. A few years back I had the sweet spot listening to the MBL's and not a minute into the song, Fremer walked in and immediately Jeremy Bryan asked me to move so he could have Fremer sit there to listen. He said only a few minutes and he brought a CD to play. After 30 minutes I just got up and left.
I totally understand why brands do it. They invest a lot of money in the shows and it's important to get press coverage to justify the cost. As a person in the press now, it's tough to do every room justice without getting the sweet spot, but it still feels "dirty" kicking someone out of the sweet spot, so I avoid doing it.

Great coverage this, and every show! Sorry for your loss. I always think that we and our animals will be together again on that day. Do you mind sharing what model(s) of Technics speaker you are speaking of? Thanks very much for what you do.
It's the SB-R1 by Technics, but unfortunately it's being discontinued. They do have a smaller model he was saying that is around $7k, but I haven't heard it yet.
Great coverage. Sorry to hear about your pup. Ive been following your content since Lone Star. It's great for exposure. I'll be in Fredericksburg in December. When will your Airbnb be ready?
I'll actually be there in December as well closing on the property...I just bought the land so it will be awhile before the Airbnb is ready. It's a new development called Arch Ray, so you may want to check it out while I'm town. There is a restaurant already open that's really good. Try the Tannat wine they make if you go.

If you are a member of my RUclips channel, I have a link to a WhatsApp group you can join with direct access to me and others. I can put together group orders directly with Viablue to reduce costs.
My two favorites at very different price points were the all new TAD G1 at 65K and the new Acoustic Energy Corinium at 8.5K. The AE had many of the charcteristics of the TAD G1 at a much friendlier price. However, the TAD G1 was my overall show winner... it didn't sound like a speaker at all, just music. For a side note, and I don't know why, but the open baffles did not appeal to me at all.
I didn't get a chance to go in those rooms. I'm sure I missed some good ones. Open Baffles require a certain set-up and room treatments that often are conducive to show conditions, so you have to sniff the potential in many rooms where you know it's not optimal.
i was hoping linkwitz was going to be there. i did book a linkwitz lounge appointment in Annapolis md this upcoming weekend to hear- The representative who runs that lounge was at CAF and did say nothing at the show compares to linkwitz sound. I also wanted to hear Daniel hertz.. I sent message to lonecrow audio Who is the distributor prior to the show and they said next year they will make there rounds at shows.
The BACCH system is indeed worthy of a lot of attention and discussion (once you have heard it, as I have now twice). On first listening, the reaction is usually OMG, and how much must I pay to have it in my room. But on repeated listening, questions arise that are worth thinking about. For example, there is no conductor in a classical music performance of quartet music. And yet the BACCH puts you in the middle of the four instruments - a place that no classical composer intended for the audience - and no audience has ever occupied. One could argue in other cases that you are being put where the conductor is (in a large orchestral performance, for example), but even that isn't accurate since the BACCH often "places you" forward of that position. To be clear, IMHO, It's a major piece of audio engineering, but one needs to spend time with it before making any final judgments. No doubt for some, it will be very seductive.
It actually puts you where the mics and mastering engineer did for the recording. One of the tests you can do (and was done several times at the show) is turn your room into a recording studio to prove it to yourself that the imaging is more accurate to how it was recorded. With the mics in your ear, you can hit "record" and have someone speak to you at 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock, and 3 o'clock positions. Then, you take the ear mics out and play that recording on your two speakers to hear first hand how it's more accurate in placing the sound exactly where you witnessed it. You can also tell that there is no change to the tonal balance as the voice will sound exactly like you heard it live (assuming your speakers are decent).
Agreed - but the recording engineers create the final recording for a listener "in front" of the quartet or the orchestra. The real question is what is "natural" in one's listening experience. I am lucky enough to have attended many classical concerts, from row C to row whatever. My point is that the listening experience I had several times through the BACCH is simply not that experience - neither what the composer intended, nor what the engineers were intending. So I am not disputing what the technology does - I am speaking as a concert goer.@@AudiophileJunkie
There isn't technology just yet to remaster the recording to your taste, but it's coming. If you watch my video tour of Edgar's lab at Princeton, you'll see a certain type of mic that will be used in the future by David Chesky and others. With HRTF and other technology that's being tested, you will be able to place yourself anywhere you want in the recording. If you want to be where the conductor is, you can do that. If you want to be on row 15 or high in the rafters, you can do that. You can even decide if you only want to hear one person in a chorus versus the whole group. I got to hear this technology first hand and it's pretty crazy, but not that dissimilar to the Sphere. Right now though... I think you're best off having a system that reveals spatial cues that are actually in the recording versus corrupted ones by crosstalk. However, if you ever encounter a recording where you like crosstalk for whatever reason, you can easily bypass the Bacch filter on the fly with a button push, so you get BOTH options to suit your tastes.
Final comment from me: I look forward to future possibilities. My point, for now, is simply that what the BACCH does to conventional recordings (99+% of what's available right now) is to create a sound that is not what the recording engineers thought they were creating - which was to try to duplicate a normal listening experience - especially one in a concert hall. The concert experience of listening to a Beethoven quartet in person is simply far better captured with conventional stereo - IMHO. "Corrupted" by cross talk is the sound the engineers of the recordings you own expected you to hear - and what they created for us is a better duplication of the original concert-goer's experience. Thanks very much for engaging, and for your very helpful additions.@@AudiophileJunkie
I understand what you are saying but many studios use headphones and very wide nearfield monitors that have very little crosstalk, so they actually DID intend to create what's actually on the recording. If anything, the removal of crosstalk accentuates to the positive what they intended, but not only does the Bacch have a bypass... It also has a % slider where you can manually engage as much or as little crosstalk cancellation as you want. Thus, you can choose a range of options for your tastes whereas you have zero options to do that with stereo polluted by crosstalk. You can also watch binaural recordings on RUclips to further prove that what was recorded is actually what was intended. You can see exactly where they chose to put the mics and hear how close you get with and without crosstalk...or... Choose whatever % you want if you think the mastering engineer was wrong. It's pointless to argue what sounds best in this hobby of subjectivity, but one can't argue against providing MORE accurate reproduction to what's in the recording PLUS the variability to adjust it to whatever subjective taste you want. That's the real value of the Bacch... You get so many more options for each and every recording, so you can be as neurotic as you want in rethinking what is on the recording and how you prefer to hear it.
Appreciate the honesty regarding Mikeys room sounding "fine". From your words and tone it sounded like it wasn't mind-blowing but nor did it sound bad. Simply good. I feel he over exaggerates the gear he sells. It's over the top that he barely likes any other components or speaker other than the ones he sells. So all the other almost countless manufacturers make ok or poor equipment? I don't think so. In fact I have 3 rigs in my place to prove it and all three are under 10k all in. This hobby is ultra subjective.
As you've noticed, Mikey is an "over the top" type personality, so each person has to process it accordingly based on whether they vibe with that style or not. Hyperbole can often be valuable in making sales because many want their dealers to be enthused about what they are selling. On the flip side, it can turn people off too if unjustified or done at the expense of other brands. He's found a niche so it just depends on each person deciding if that niche is for them or not. I just call it like I hear it based on my preferences, and I'm actually surprised he didn't bring open baffles where both him and I seem to sync more in what we like.
Maybe so...I haven't kept up to speed with him, but knew he loved Maggie's and other line source open baffles. One time he asked me to check out Alsyvox at RMAF because I think he was considering them.
I have to say Fritz speakers are the same value for me. I don't think he really sets up at shows anymore but.. I remember his speakers being wonderful for the money. 😊

Great job, Jason. love the wrap up, love your courage. I appreciate all of this hard work you do. I recently covered the Melbourne Hi-Fi show for my channel, and I was exhausted at the end of it. I also subscribe to OCD Mikey and feature both of you on my channel. He's a different cat, and that's why I like him, just the same as I like your quirkiness as well.

Great job with the show coverage. I bet you are tired with all the work you completed at CAF.
I am definitely tired, but in a good way...It was fun, so I don't mind being exhausted for the right cause :)
🤔😉😇 I'm not his Mama!😋
I am so sorry about your dog- that always hurts so much.
