Mexican jumping beans were available to buy in the early 1970's. My neighbour had one that he'd sent for it by mail order from an address in a comic book.
The "joke shop" version consisted of medicine capsules with a metal ball bearing inside. As you moved them around in your hand, they would flip over with the weight of the ball bearing. The real seed pods were impossible to come by in the UK.
The echo is because the sound bounces off each of the steps separately, and since each step is slightly further away than the step below, the sound takes slightly longer to come back, so you end up hearing a series of echoes coming back, making a clap sound like a boing.
It’s interesting because I was working on two farm buildings recently and you got the same result from them. They were just barns at right angles to each other. Obviously the angle was just right to reproduce the sound here.
The Mexican jumping bean comes from the mountains in the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, and Chihuahua. Álamos, Sonora, calls itself the "Jumping Bean Capital of the World".
Awe thanks so so much for this. You two have really dragged me out of the dumps. This is one of my favourite episodes. 😊 Love the bits where he was pretending to be Jesus being disappointed he would be remembered by a chocolate egg, sharing his Monster Munch, how that Mexican woman would be having chips every night and when he is enjoying listening to “I just can’t enough” and joking about how it would be a great theme tune if Sky broadcasted the beheadings! 😂 ….By the way I have a Malteser chocolate egg here for you both! Take care, Julie & Jimmys the Cat ❤️😻 x
For what it's worth, there's no way that's true, even the biggest of them can carry under a kilogram The joke from The Holy Grail about swallows & weight ratios come to mind, lol
I needed this right now. Thankyou. I've never heard of river valley so but the laugh made me look it up. Looks nice but close to Sudbury where I've been a few times. 😂. I've always wanted to go to Temagami on a trip.
Wrestling may always have been scripted, that's pretty much confirmed by now, but that doesn't mean the people taking part aren't real athletes. They do actually throw each other around. Just because they've planned the throw that doesn't make The Rock any easier to lift and throw or that it isn't gonna hurt if he throws you.
@@bradlucy yeah, many times. My grandfather and his brother owned the property at Pimisee (?) Bay, which is now a turn off and trailer park. Everytime we came from sudbury we would stop at that chip stand.
Hey, don’t know if you guys enjoy reading, but if so.. give Karl’s books a chance. They’re really good fun and you get some more insight in his travels. Funny little handdrawn ilkustrations from him as well.
Karl is so funny, he has just seen one of the wonders of the world and straight after he is asking for mexican jumping beans instead 😂 Within 500 years the current humans will build pyramids just as a fun thing and in 10.000 years when the current history has been wiped out one way or another they will find the pyramids and say we did all kinda weird shiet there and worshipped the smiling gods because they found evidence of us using smileys in written conversation 🤪 Niagara falls is not a wonder of the world, Victoria falls in southern Africa is though, it is twice as high as Niagara and wider, though it isn't the highest, I don't remember where the highest is, south america somewhere
I'm from the UK, but I'm missing something here. What do the two 'reactors' do, apart from taking up three quarters of the screen? They just don't seem to be bringing anything to the table at all..
What's the deal with Mexican jumping beans? Mexican jumping bean - Wikipedia The "bean" is usually tan to brown. They are from the shrub Sebastiania pavoniana, often also referred to as "jumping bean". However, they are not related to actual beans (legume plants), but rather to spurges. The beans are considered non-toxic but are not generally eaten

There was a kids comic that had a packet on the front with a free jumping bean around 87, 88 I remember kids at school turning up with them.
Karl's mind only exists in the 1970's lol

@@medic-iw6qx that's maybe what they were I was probably only 6 at the time.
@@medic-iw6qx Shout out to Tam Shepherd's Joke Shop. That's where I got mine from as a kid 😅
I've had Mexican Jumping Beans as a kid.. The larva in the seedpod actually cause them to jump.
And there was me thinking I was going do lally because I am sure I had jumping beans years ago
Late night comedy chat shows would be envious of that opening dialogue! 🤣😝😜🤎🦫🦫🦫🧡😃
