This music is as fresh, brilliant and meaningful in 2019 as it was in 1619. It has an ageless beauty. Monteverdi's musical genius lives for time and for all eternity.
I remembered this piece from an old oiseau-lyre recording back in school. After years i finally recalled the opening words, and found this video. it is amazing, to remember a word, and with a few keystrokes be transported to another time and place. I didn't properly thank people when I was in music school.... for the time, the work, to play and sing like this. To me, this performance is arresting. Thank you.
La voix de Jennifer Ellis Kampani s'accorde bien à la musique de Monteverdi.

With what gentleness, adored lips, I kiss you and I listen to you; But when I am enjoying a pleasure, another one is taken away from me. How your pleasures Differ from one another, When my soul gently lives for both of them? What a delicate harmony Would you create, o sweet kisses, If you were jointly capable Of both kinds of tenderness, The words kissing and the kisses speaking.
There is an observable element in the voice of Ms. Ellis that shares some familiarity with that of Andrea Bocelli. Perhaps someone else hears this. VOM has done it again with this fine piece.
