Thanks for joining all. LESSON NOTES AND MORE IN DESCRIPTION. Like a plonker, I didn't find a way to mute my mic during the opening few minutes so you can hear my loud keyboard and sniffs for free... Skip to 2:45 for the start of the stream :)
This is fantastic. I've heard much of this information before, including a reference of this study (through Noa Kageyama's pod cast if I recall correctly), but seeing it applied in practice is worth so much more. Thanks a lot for this video and your others, Joseph. It's a shame you do not upload anymore.
Very helpful thank you, i am learning a new piece (or have been for about 2 weeks) and am applying your practice ideas right now. Question (might sound unusual), but do you have any thoughts on how to reduce mental stress whilst correcting mistakes when you repeat the phrase at a slower tempo 5 times allowing only 1 mistake? I find it quite draining mentally and this often is the point where i then take a break (put the guitar down!!) rather than going on and getting it 80% right ( ie 4 out of 5 times correct)? Cheers ( im probably a grade 3 player so still pretty slow at sight reading which in itself can be stressful when learning new pieces)
Thats interesting. Give this process a few weeks and your mind acclimatises to the extra stress. But it's always more work and concentration than a normal practice process so here's where you can probably spend less total time practising. 15-20 mins of this process then you need a break. I'll respond later on using breath and other things to help.
You're also totally right about reading taking its toll. In the earlier stages I think reading music on guitar is harder than actually playing it, and you have to give yourself credit and time to rest for something that is extremely brain meltingly tough.
@@josephwarwick4604 totally! Plus my (very good) guitar teacher has me tapping my foot to keep time, keeping the volume loud, posture (+ sight reading + the actual playing)!! After a lesson im a jibbering wreck!! cheers
Hey Jack, I'm ok thanks. Had a stomach bug over the weekend and a minor panic about general life/finances/work and family balance but feel better now and slowly thinking about life going forward. How are you? Will message you regarding the free RUclips lesson, yes would love to give you one!
@@josephwarwick4604 Oh that was bad, but like Nietzsche said, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger and what kills me makes me stronger. I wish you health, wellness, family and financial stability and really better life life that you wish

It's why lots of professionals get by on an hour a day of practice or less. They're going at it intensely
@@josephwarwick4604 thanks Joseph, yes, i will stick at it as i can see benefits in it
