Hello everyone, welcome to my coloring channel for adults.
Hi to all my recent subscribers, I'm grateful to have you here.
I colour for for fun and art therapy. I'm still learning.
Today I am using the Caran D'Ache Fibralo water-soluble pens for the first time.
To be honest I had not heard about these pens before.
I found them in the sale recently, so they were an impulse buy.
I purchase all my own art supplies and this channel is not monetized.
(I do not earn money from views).
In the video I unwrap, swatch and color in Ken Matsuda's coloring book.
This video has some chatty sections.
Some segments are sped up but most is in real time.
You can slow the speed down if you prefer.
Please note I used a lot of water to swatch the pens, so they are shown in a very dilute form.
For a more vibrant result use less water to obtain a stronger value.
Or swatch direct to paper.... but this isn't so melty, you may need more water and friction from the brush can pill the paper.
You may have pen lines still showing.
To add more depth, color and value let it dry and go back over with a stronger saturation.
I swatched onto watercolor paper 300gsm, 140 lb cold press
Thank you to Mr Bee for the neat tile palette idea *;)

Fibralo come in 10, 24 and 30 sets.
If you are looking for the neat saturated look, probably best to stick with the regular Fibralo fibre tip pens.
I shall be showing an updated swatch in my July 24 completed pages.

These are lovely. The important thing to remember is while you usually get what you pay for, for waterbased pens there is almost no difference between expensive and budget.. with the exception of availability of open stock. This aspect is very important to me, but may not be for others. They are all dye based, and therefore all fugitive. If lightfastness is a desire it's the Faber Castell Pitt Artists pen, which is pigment based. Staedtler also has a version, but I haven't seen any real life lightfastness tests of it, so I would test first.
Your other option is good old fashioned watercolors, there are plenty of beautiful inexpensive lightfast options on the market. In pans they are very portable and easy to store and will function very similar to the markers, especially if you only plan to use them off a palette anyway. I would suggest Rosa, White Nights, or Roman Szmal depending on your location in the world.. each is already panned, good quality, cheap, and offers plenty of lightfast pigments.. just be sure to check those ratings which choosing. Also Royal Talen Van Gogh, of which the entire line is lightfast, so you don't have to be careful about which you buy if you are a beginner.

The Caran d’Ache range always has such pretty colours. These are no exception. So pretty! Stunning work as always, Bee!

Love the water background sounds. So much better than music.😊

The hardware store can provide some great supplies. One of my favorite finds was a decorative washer for decking, about four inches square, painted black. I keep all my watercolors in pans, with magnets on the bottom, and store them in tins. They are compact, easy to store, and reduce waste vs tube paints. I often pull out a few colors to work with.. and the washer is awesome to hold them for me. Just pop the pans right on it and the magnet holds them in place. The washer is small, yet heavy so it won't slide around while you are using it. You can even attach it to a drawing board or easel with a binder clip if you wish. Ceramic is by far the best choice for palette, so easy to clean. Once you go ceramic you never want to go back to plastic. I typically use the little "flower" palettes as I like having a bit of a bowl for each color to sit in. Keeps them from running into each other and I can use it on an uneven surface (I tend to work in bed vs a desk) without spills. Also fits easily into a bag or even a pocket for travel. I wish I could figure out a textured option for use with watercolor pencils. Plastic works (such as the Carandache palette) but I'm spoiled for ceramic.
