    As a Zimbabwean, I LOVE this song. Bob Marley would be turning in his grave to see what corruption and greed has done to Zimbabwe today. I still firmly believe this should have been our national anthem!!!!!

      I hear you man!!
      Such hope-filled, artistic insight speaks to the spiritual as well as the pragmatic part inside all of us.
      Yet one of the big problems with us is how long it takes for the deeply needed change to emerge. In the meantime, while we yearn for change, injustice and wrongs seems to triumph. Yet in recalling the simple precept from the philosopher Lao Tzao and possibly other unknown sages:.. journey of 1000 miles begins with one step. By that reckoning humanity has less than 1000 miles yet to go.
      Also it's not inability which prevents our dreams fulfilment; it's the becoming impatient with the slow sequential nature of it all, Such that it seems like 1 step forward 2 step backwards!
      *Peace out!*
      😊🖤❤💚💛💙🎶😀

      You realize this song is a Marxist Anthem, that helped provoke the murderous environment that led to the Zimbabwean genocide of white Rhodesian's right????
      Now they are are begging the White Farmers to come back.... look up the return of the first 2 families this week, that were in Exile, back to their farms they fled!! The locals were soooooo overjoyed the swarmed them and sang them tribal songs of returning, because they're starving.....
      They took the farms, and then nobody knew how to farm..... and many millions starved.
      It's good to have proper context friend......
      Good song though... sure.

      Bro, they didn’t “eliminate” bob, he is ever with us... no.? Then why do I feel him right now.

    • @Chartoise
      @Chartoise 5 лет назад +3

      His father was a white man. They have been so cruel to him, because of that. He completely rejected his European heritage. He was not working to unite the masses. He was working to make his friends believe he was just as black as them. He just wanted acceptance of the people around him. That's all any of us want.
      Unlike his texts, he was a bitter man. He betrayed a lot of his loved ones, and he fostered a hate for the Europeans. The exact part of him that had made him the outcast in his community his entire life. Marley was clear, but to this very day... I believe he is the most misunderstood man that has been on our planet.
      A peaceful man doesnt sing about revolution.

      @@Chartoise you will never truly understand what he is saying till u get the black perspective

    • @Chartoise
      @Chartoise 4 года назад +3

      @@nfriend30 Well, He was not black. He was a halfsie. All his pleas for peace and community where directed at the ones that rejected him. Black people hated him for being half white.
      His words are on the record. He said this himself.
      Just like Trevor Noah... Being a half blood in a black country is brutal. They have been subjected to racism their entire lifes. And it was not the Europeans. It were their neighbours.

    • @basimpsn
      @basimpsn 4 года назад +8

      @@Chartoise Dude..you have no clue what you are talking about...I'm a born Jamaican and grew up in the same neighborhood as bob and never like bob music because of my age at that time..Now I can't get enough of it. Jamaica full of mix people..Do a search on white Jamaican, Chinese Jamaicans Indian Jamaican...My school mate eyes is blue with dread lol. It's not uncommon to see people like that it's not a big deal dude. So Bob was not a unique because of his father...America make this a big deal to separate us. I guess you're from America? Caribbean people sing a lot about selves consciousness..love for each other. Listen to other Reggae music and you will see.

    this song 's lyrics are initially written by Daniel Leach aka Bro Philippine, who lived in Ethiopia Shashamane. He, Bro Philippine, drafted this song's lyrics while Bob Marley was in transit in Ethiopia on his way to Zimbabwe. there are old versions of this records in which Daniel Leach is mentioned as the song writer. We miss and love Bro Philippine our mentor.

    We African/Americans are a family and it is time that we begin working toward our own family's interests. The idea that, "Charity begins at home" is not separatism nor selfishness. The neglecting of ourselves and relying on others to provide for us nurtures that negative perception other families have of our community.
    Until we as a people take ownership of our own financial, political and social destiny, we will be seen as not deserving of others' respect. Today it is not a whole lot about fighting for our rights; it is more of how we should exercise our rights. For one, by making sure that we are being treated justly with the allocation of government contracts, loans, grants, scholarships, etc., including the contracting of capital improvement projects. With a unified voice we can make sure some of these infrastructure projects will be developed and built by us in our communities.

      For every other so called race, they practice the concept of charity begins at home. It is only us blacks who believe this is racist. But the two biggest obstacles to black liberation is Christianity and Islam. Black people, you can't worship the god of your oppressors.

    yeah, not everything turned out right in zimbabwe, but the national liberation struggle against white racist rule was still righteous and this song got inspiration from and gave inspiration to that and many other righteous liberation struggles. in the end justice will win out there and everywhere else. the amazing thing about marley is that he was a guy with very little formal education, but incredible wisdom about the world around him and the world in general. his body is long gone, but his spirit lives on and will do so forever.

    "IF YOUR NIGHT SHOULD TURN TO DAY, A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL RUN AWAY"
    Let's explain it so that every man and woman will understand this principle. Now think of Bob Marley as an evangelist through music or a freedom fighter and a human rights activist. Bob Marley's music is not just about smoking marijuana. Let's take this song line in two pieces; "If your night should turn to day", this is a proverb or figurative expression for the "Wrath" or the rage of God Almighty" which comes in the form plagues or diseases without cure. Don't confuse this with cancer or HIV, cancer and HIV are man made diseases. Next, "a lot of people will run away" means they cannot bear it. The Wrath of God is not the something as going to hell. The wrath of happens right here on earth before you die. That's why Jesus said every evil you mete shall be meted out to you when the wrath of God cometh. Shakespear put it this way "the evil that men do lives after them". The first law of karma says "as a man sow, so shall he reap" . In Bob Marley's song "time will tell" means it is only a matter of time when the wrath of God comes. In Marley's song "Stiff necked Fools" He wrote "the lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die from want of wisdom". This is a quote from the Book Of Wisdom (Proverbs 10:21). In the song "Guiltiness" he said "Woe to the downpressors, they will eat the bread of sorrow". To eat the bread of sorrow is also a figurative expression for the wrath of God. In the song “Rat Race”, Bob wrote “in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty” This also is quote from the Holy scripture- the Proverbs. Jesus said "do unto others what you would like others to do unto you". Conficious quoted the same scripture saying " do unto others what you like others to do for you". In everyday life we say "treat others the way you would like to be treated". Essentially, nearly every of Bob Marley song has a line quoted from the Book of Wisdom or the proverbs to make us better people and treat one another with dignity and One Love. Bob Marley did say that Marijuana should be used as medicine for all mankind.
