This has been a really refreshing take on Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords. Of RTDs first four season cliffhangers, this always finds its way to be ranked last when I think to order them. I don't dislike it. But is it because it's not Daleks or Cybermen? Is it because Martha's story doesn't land as well as Rose or Donna? It certainly has more to say as a story than the others? Anyway, refreshing take 😊. Also, I think Lucy is such a great character in this and the actor plays it brilliantly. The black eye she has at the start of episode two. So subtle, but the darkness of that relationship / Master's companion. Also also, I think Moffat was unhappy with his Series 1 two parter having a continuous cliffhanger. He said "were they just waiting there all week?". He then has two one-parters, and he gets to rectify that next season. But interesting RTD gets to try that cliffhanger resolution approach.
Dammit - forgot to talk about Lucy. I think it’s her inclusion in the episodes that keeps the Master on the right side of ‘evil but delightful’ divide. The way she looks at the start of LotTL is harrowing.
